Book 1, Chapter 11 sold me on this game

As the title states, so it goes.  I lurk on these forums, in addition to many others.  I Played LOTRO in beta, and really didn't find it that enjoyable.  My unhapyness with WoW made me go out and plunk down 45 bux, even if it was only for a month.

I truly wasn't sold on the game.  I've gotten 5 out of 7 classes to 10, 2 out of 7 to 20+.

What sold me on the game, and I beg of anyone who says the game "wasn't for them" atleast do up to this - was the epic quest line quests.  The first one that TRULY makes you just sit back in your chair after you complete it and go "Wow...that was awesome" is Book 1 Chapter 11.  You will be ATLEAST level 15 before you can attempt this quest, realisticly level 20 if your not doing it in a full 6-man.  You just aren't getting the experience of what this game is until you do.

From merry tom pointing you to the entrance and then runnin for the hills, to the fog affects, hidden rooms, frantic kill-fests as mobs add in a scripted pattern, to exploding walls and evil bosses that are annoyed they have to spend their lunch hour spanking you, Its definitely a wild ride, and to me, totally worth pushing through the first 20 levels, wether you found the quests fun or not.

Go on youtube and search for it.  Heck, search in regular google and you'll see.  I've never been able to search for a WoW quest and fine video and commentary.  It truly does define for me, what LOTRO is.

Just my 2 cents to the crowd.  Thanks!

What sold me on the game was the setting. Walking through Chetwood and seeing a Dwarf and a Hobbit arguing over who made a better Brew was priceless. Especially considering the setting and them smoking pipes. Stuff like that just doesnt feel right to me outside of the World of Tolkein. Another thing that sold me was the quests. From the start I felt like there was so much to do and see, yet there was a clear path of head along. So you if your bored with your surroundings just head along on your epic path and wala, somewhere new.

I'm seriously addicted to getting titles as well. Making my way to Level 20 on my new main, which is a hunter. Earning the Undying Title is simply priceless for me.

What sold me on the game was everything right in the beginning, where I was caught and had to make my escape, then on to the prologue questline right into chapter 1.

I personally wasn't sold on it either during my 5+ months in the beta. However, if you find the right group of people, it's one of the most enjoyable MMO experiences you'll ever have.

Isn't that true for every game, no matter how crappy it is? Nothing beats playing with a bunch of nice people, chatting a bit on voice com, regardless of what game :D

Not only is it true for every game, but its also true for every other experience as well.  I could be out fishing with my dad and my brothers, and not catch a thing, but have a great time being with my family.  Doesn't make the fishing good, though ;).

Still, I'ld rather do a crappy activity with friends, than a great activity alone :) Your mileage may vary.

Back on topic.  Chapter 11 sold me too.  Up to that point the game was mediocre.  After that I was like "Holy crap that was fun!"  And i then looked forward to every time I had to go into an instanced mission.  And each one after has not disappointed at all.  This game, if you play it for more than 15 minutes, is really engrossing.

As for the troll, thank you for telling me I deserve to have my money taken for a game I truly enjoy playing.  As you see, most of us live in a free world that allows us to do whatever the hell we please without first running it by you to see if it's a good idea or not.  Now go back your WoW and rub yourself with the keyboard and keep telling yourself it's a better game.

Yep Chapter 11 sold me as well. It was quite fun and reminded me a lot of my first fake or real or whatever MMO, Guild Wars.

dude lol, i just finished not even 10 min ago lol. doing compiling the footage for youtube as we speak :P. sarog was killer. and yeah agree with all you said. was truly awesome. im trying to convince my brother that this game will be good fit for him. gonna give him my trial buddy key. he plays WOW and is debating about leaving, but when i explained the above, and the whole generalizations of what the game features, she was like 'why on earth do you have wow and the expansions" LOTRO seems much more deep. sthe both digged the music like dust in the wind someone did in LOTRO on youtube. lol. lot of the stuff u explained sold me and i was telling them that. so to help appease their curiousity figure a trial key cant hurt.

ill throw the video in soon as i can get it on youtube. just dont want it to come out all grainy. soill  get back to you all soon. so far i love this game, and keeps getting better.

You think this quest was fun wait until the higher quests come around in the great barrow. They are an abolute blast. Also, one of my all time favorites so far is Retaking Weather top and the chain the leads up to that . These have been about the most fun I have had in any MMO. The community is great too. On these quests I have always been with fun folks.
