Both of those games have already been lasting years. I don't have much history research done on the people who produced EQII. However, as far as WoW and BLizzard goes, yea.. years to come indeed. People have been playing their other games for more than decades. Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft I/II/III. Face it, they are doomed to be a great publicized company with even better ground breaking game releases that are cursed to exist on the internet for years and years.
I know Maple Story has only been groing ever since the first betas about 3-4 years ago. So I know Maple Story is going to last for years. Also WoW will probably last for a really long time, but in my opinion the game is really borring. FFXI has an infinite number of things to do, to the point where you will never win, but the problem is there are no people in the game. Or at least none that are lower than level 40-60.
I've played many games, and the ones that I play change weekly. Currently I am very interested in Gunbound, Poker, and Kwon Ho once more. I am thinking of returning to Maple Story and Ghost Online.

People seriously underestimate FFXI's population. It may not be as large as WoW's but thats only because its not a solo game.
Also, saying "no people" is a really bold statement that borders on stupidity. I'm not sure what server you play on, but in Pandemonium theres enough low levels, and people with high levels in the dunes and other low level places.
Also Maplestory is probably going to follow the path of Ragnarok (private server wise).
I am looking for an MMORPG that is going to last.... I really enjoyed Lineage 2 but it kinda seemed to die.
Is WoW going to be full of people for years to come? How about EQ2?
Any others?
Please, any input is gladly welcome! Im trying to find my game!
WOW should probably have a very long run. EQ2 is afloat only because they are making constant changes to make EQ2 less like EQ2.
New MMORPG's, my guess, will promise big and disappoint.
WOW is probably your safest play. No, it's not everything, but it plays well and has (quote from some review article) "the perfect balance between depth and simplicity".
WOW is the only game I've played that I can repeatedly tolerate and enjoy, even though I had always dreamed of a bigger better EQ being designed and released someday.

Absolutely and utterly untrue. I'm on Remora server and have been levelling some subjobs recently. Every time I go into the Dunes there are several levelling parties there. Last weekend I levelled WAR from 15 to 18 on Saturday and NIN from 13 to 18 on Sunday with pickup parties in the Dunes. Last night I got another party in the Dunes to try and level NIN more, but that was a bust and I died twice. Hey, they can't all be winners, but the point is I didn't have any trouble finding people.
Both games you mention specifically (WoW, EQ2) will be around for a while still...a long while. Heck, UO is still going (fairly) strong after 10 years.
Personally, I might look to the future though. Find out what games are coming out that interest you (Age of Conan, Warhammer, Tabula Rasa, Gods and Heroes, etc.) and be ready to get in on the ground floor of one of them. All of these games offer something different and interesting to look at and have a fairly dedicated community looking forward to them. Find those people and start talking about and getting into the game before it is even released, you may find that makes them all the more enjoyable and long-lasting for you.
I very much doubt you have anything to worry about with 95% of the game that are released right now.
WoW will continue to do well, grow and hopefully add more and more content as it ages.
EQ2 has turned into a wonderfully complete questing and PvE game that really has alot to offer.
Lineage 2 is begining an all new chapter of it's life with 4 to 5 years of pre-planned content and story lines, wonderful news.
Saga of Ryzom is once again on the rebound with new investment money, some new subscriptions and of course it's always stellar community.
On top of all that there's DDO (if that's your thing) and the newly released LOTRO, there's still FFXI and of course let's not forget City of Villains/Heroes. On top of EQ2 SOE has some decent offerings of SWG and MxO and Planetside, all of which will most certianly continue to do reasonably well. I would even hasten to say that even Vanguard may turn around to be a better product in it's due time.
In other words, really, don't worry about duration. Find a game that appeals to you, with a community you can enjoy and a world you want to be involved with. You'll be a happier gamer for it in the long run.

To be honest I dont see WoW lasting too long now.
I would go for EvE Online or wait for Conan, because I think Conan is going to take the more mature WoW player base when it launches.

On topic; WoW or wait for Conan.
Runescape currently has 1.1 million members and 9 million free accounts, (JDN review)

That's ok, you're allowed . I kind figured that wouldn't be the most popular statement, but it's just an oppinion, no more than that.
