Is a boxed copy necessary?

Since SotNW will be available as a free download, is there any reason to buy a boxed copy if I'm not interested in any of the preorder bonuses or the free 30 days?

    If you don't want the 10K vis and UPC then I don't think you will need one.  They said something about there being online offers availible too.

    I would assume though those offers will have a comparable price as the box version though.  I doubt they would be able to do it any other way with the retailers they have.

    I'm sure there will be a download . Thats how distribution is going now. The game is a blast.. you can play it right now. I'm on the Aussie server Pachebel. (english) Just go to the site, sign up and download.

    You are not playing this version of the game.  Pachebel is the sgGE which is a different version and is not as current as K2s.

    Although you might get better connectivity to the sgGE one.
