Will the players on EQ 1 move onto EQ 2

MatyasMatyas Member Posts: 8

I have found that most people who have been playing EQ 1 for years and have put hours of dedication into their characters will not have the energy to go on and change to EQ 2 because they will have to restart from the bigining. Maybe these people will finaly call it quits and stop playing EQ. image

Do you think sony expacts EQ2 to be a biger hit than EQ 1? image

I have played EQ for over a year and a half now, my highest character is 62 and the other 7 range from 27-50.  I don't want all that to be for nothing.

Besides, even if I hadn't put that much time into EQ1, I have as yet seen nothing about EQ2 that makes me want to play it.  Nice graphics, yes, but that's about it.  Most of the features they rave about on the official site are completely pointless - property ownership, horses and carts, a few new races and classes (a lot of which they advertise as classes are actually more like sub-versions of current EQ classes) - it's all very shallow.

I signed up for beta thinking that EQ1 is so successful, they must have at least SOME clue what they're doing, so I'm hoping that if they accept me or I can see some fan sites with quest lists it might change my opinion.

So no, at the moment there is a 0% chance I would abandon my high-level character to play EQ2.
Although I'm hoping that a lot of the teenage idiots who populate EQ1 and constantly bug me will leave for the superficial attraction of Eq2 :)

    I don't know.

I know a lot of people who have high level characters that they have been playing for years who have quit in the last 2 months -- just up and quit-- most often citing burn-out, boredom, and frustration with the politics of the high end of the game as their reason for moving on. Some of those people are waiting to see if they get into EQ2 beta. Others have gone off to play City of Heroes or Lineage 2, waiting for the release of WoW and/or EQ2. I don't know that that is a game-wide trend, but I do know that many of these people had said in public forums in the past that they were going to stick with EQ1.  That was then, this is now, I guess.

I think those who are reaching high level (60+) now, and those who have been playing for 2 years or less, will probably stick mainly with EQ1. They have too much invested now to move, and not enough time in to get bored, jaded, cynical, and downright spiteful yet... But I think they move on too, when a lot of their friends move on-- whether that is to EQ2 or a different game.

I think SOE is hoping to draw in a lot of first time mmorpg subscribers with EQ2. It is probably in their best interest to keep EQ1 fans happy, grab brand new fans for EQ2, and hope to get as many people as possible to subscribe to both.

Theres lots of ppl who have quit EQ (like me) and are just waiting for EQ2.  I love EQ1 and rather than start over on EQ1 for the 3rd time, ima just wait for EQ2.

I have invested a lot of time and effort so far in EQ. So even though EQII looks great I don't think I can justify the additional cost that moving would demand. It's not just the money either. Another issue for me is that EQ already has my computer system to its limits. I am not ready to go to EQ II because that will require me to do a serious upgrade to my computer system and I'm not ready for that yet.

    ::::09::

  • They should just make EQ2 exactly like EQ1, and transfer ALL player characters from EQ1 to EQ2. Then EQ2 will be EQ1 with modern graphics and game engine. image

    I have many 65ish toons.

Either way could work with me.  I dont mind starting all over again, as long as I feel there is a point and hope in doing so.  The only toons I recognize they deserve to be better then me in grouping are those that earn their stuff in groups *better* then me, not in raids, pac man, or whatever else they think is cool.

As long as they (&&?$% fix the RAID or PERISH assimilating mentality, I wont raid, no thanks, and if raiders are better groupers then me again, forget it, I dont mind playing with Snowblind instead(or Civilisation 4 niak niak niak).

Past accomplishments are nice when they are taken into account, as long as it dont ruin the present, present is what matter.

The people who currently play EQ will never forever quite EQ if they decide to NOT move to EQ2.

Next, as long as EQ continues having at minimum 50,000 accounts to 100,000 accounts then EQ will NEVER shut down. SONY does not care if EQ2 becomes a bigger hit than EQ. Or if EQ continues being their biggest hit game.

EQ2 must make at minimum 100,000 subscribers in order to be considered a hit. IMHO things will end up with EQ sinking to 200k accounts and EQ2 growing to 200k accounts. Still nice news for SONY.

Remember, tons of hardcore players in EQ had 4 - 8 and more accounts. Money is no option for them. They will easily be able to afford the all access SONY pass and will play BOTH EQ and EQ2.

Other players will never move to EQ2 and will keep playing EQ because they have too many years invested. Newer players will not play EQ, or will leave EQ, and move to EQ2.

Personally, im moving to eq2. I have been playing the game scince the begining, release. My account was just recently hacked and I might as well wait a few month so I can explore a totally new adventure. EQ has tooooooo many epansions out now that make oldworld outdated. And old world was the funnest, because it was a real challenge not a powerlvl

    Watching rangers die scince 1899

--Nyture, Arc Convoker of fironia vie server (EQ) --Retired--
-- Nytur 39 Conjuror of Lucan D'lere (Quit due to low populations)
-- Currently playing WoW while waiting for vanguard
    Explorer 66%
    Socializer 60%
    Killer 53%
    Achiever 20%

PLEASE SOE MAKE A CLASSIC EQ SERVER. Shadow of luclin was a prick in EQs side. PoP Was a gun to the face.

Everquest , the name still makes me want to puke my guts out. This game is a waste for elitest power levellers only. Please newbs .. DO NOT TRY THIS GAME. It has been out forever and has basically become a wasteland for people who have no life and have been playing for literally 4+ years. OUTDATED... ALL YOU FAT MUGS NEED TO GET OFF YER ASS AND GO OUT FOR A DAM CHANGE. Try something NEW too. I'm playing CoH and ready to move to WoW when it releases.

EQ is phenomenal and I have a couple level 65 characters but I don't see how it can be viewed as an investment at all.  If you must think of it as an investment then realize It was an investment in fun and has already paid off.

If EQ has lost a little of its luster with age and your ready to play another mmorpg why would the time you spent playing EQ1 matter?  If your still enjoying the original and don't think you would enjoy the sequel as much then there is no reason to move on.  Obviously there will be people on both sides as well as even those few who choose to play both (at least as a transition phase).

Either way, if you think EQ2 will be better, or at least fresher, I cant see a reason your time spent in the original should have any impact on whether you move on or not.

I agree completely, and that is how I see it,  but you have to admit that a lot of people do feel invested. Have you ever noticed how many people play EQ like it is a job?

I got to agree with you there, your MMORPG experience should be fun. I never played EQ, but part of me wants to check it out all the most of the patches and 100bucks for 1 year sounds pretty damn good. I am played FFXI and CoH. Well I stopped playing FFXI and thinking of canceling my account, because although I invested countless hours I am no longer gaining any fun out of playing.

So, my advice if you are no longer having fun in what your doing stop. Don't delete your characters just stop playing , maybe a month or two goes by and you change your mind and get back into into it maybe not.

At E3 a developer of a great new MMORPG said this " We don't want our MMORPG to require you to work, its all about having fun"

I started playing EQ1 roughly 6 months after it went live. I was hooked. It was fun and I learned a lot from the game and peeps I met. I played one char to 62 and one to 52. I had many alts trying pretty much every class and race with exceptiong of orges and trolls and over a period of three years I had three accounts and my hubby had three accounts. The high end of the game took all the fun out of it and it became more like a job than a place to log in and have fun.
The result was leaving the game and giving it up completely. Going back to play D2 where all that high end crap was not there. Then jumping crab cakes! D2 screwed up with the last patch and the game was nothing but high end geared and even the high lvls hated it. ::::38:: Not that it was great but better than nothing at all you know. I don't like PvP or guild or realm vs each other. Just not me. Oh! I tried demos of many other games AC2 among them and even bought and played AC2 for a few months but nothing was working for me. ::::29::
Result after a long year EQ1 was tugging at me but I feared the feeling of having to play. Alas I repurchased EQ1 and all the exspansions again and started fresh. New char and new attitude.
I want to try EQ2 and see if it is going to be another outlet for fun and entertainment for me as I am beyond the age of going out and this is my RL entertainment. (almost 52) ::::24::
I keep up with the stuff put out and read all I can find on EQ2 but I am not so sure it is going to be all that. I am still hoping to get into the beta testing so I can put it to the test and look for the bugs and of course the content and stability of the game. Is it going to be worth it? Is it what they say? Many more questions.
Money is an issue with us. We can't afford to fork out all that money on so many accounts and yet we want to have fun and be challenged at the same time.
I don't know if I am willing to quit EQ1 all together and sure won't until I know more first hand just what EQ2 really is.

Once a hard core gamer , now playing for fun and the friends I meet along the way.

I have played everquest for quite some time now and i did hear that ur EQ2 player can inherit skills or something from ur EQ1 player, so its kinda like ur EQ character had a child. I will play EQ2 because i like to experience new and different things. I get bored of playing the same thing all the time. I think its time for us EQ1 players to move on to a new and different world.

I think that many EQ1 players will be stubborn, but they will give in sooner or later. image  The fact of the matter is that you don't own anything in EQ1, it's not yours, it's sony's.  Certainly these folks have a time investment there, but the game is out dated.  I left EQ1 over a year ago after just over 3 years played.  I got one toon to 61 and 5 other toons to the 51-56 range and quite bluntly, I got bored of the high end game and quit.  Since then I have played DAoC, AO and SWG and severly missed the community that EQ1 had all the while.  All of these are great games and have some very nice features or advantages over EQ1.  Anyone who has played DAoC from the first week of realease (like I did) will note all the enhancements that EQ1 recieved which smelled awfully similar to those features of DAoC that we enjoyed so much.  Now, looking at EQ2 I see many of the features that I liked so much from all of these games I played including EQ1.  EQ2 seems to be a melding of many of the hit games of today and I think it will attract a large following of those of us who gave up on EQ1 with current EQ1 players sort of trickling in within a year after release.  I know a lot of folks in EQ1 who say they won't give up on it (and yes I re-subscribed to EQ1 because i missed friends and community there image), but I personally can't wait for EQ2 to release.

I would also like to take a second to tip my hat to those who stated that the point of playing an MMO is to have fun.  So many people forget to have fun in game, which can ruin it for them and the poeple around them.  When my fun meter hit rock botom, that's when I left EQ1. The same goes for the other games, but no game held my interest as long as EQ1 did, and no game was quite as fun for quite as long.  I think that is what has me hyped the most about EQ1's sequel.

I completely plan on playing both rather than just quit EQ.  EQ 2 has alot of awesome things going on with it, but nothing so far that'll make me quit EQ.  Over the past 4 years I've quit every other game I was really playing just to play EQ and haven't found anything that interested me too terribly.  Til now, EQ 2 looks like it will kick much arse, and I'm definitley going to be playing it, but I will never give up on EQ....too much time, too many memories, and still having alot of fun. image

I'll play EQ2 only.  As far as EQ goes, I'm at the "been there, done that" stage.

I originally started out playing EQ in beta...years ago, and I was very happy with the game for many years, but it really wasted a lot of my life.....I somehow got myself away from it for the last year or so, leaving my 65th lvl paladin. I think I will play EQ2, hopefully in beta, and from what I have seen it looks very impressive, I just hope it is as good as it looks!
