SOE doesn't have the money to pull back the game to pre-CU. Torres doesn't want to anyways. He wants a star wars version of WoW. He's even an avid player of World of Warcraft.. so why'd they trust him at the helm again?
Lucas Arts has pretty much told them to fix the problem or be discontinued with their Star Wars license. SOE has yet to do this and follow up on their word to fix the problem and slowly bring back the old content. All they have done is apologize.. and even that was under Lucas Arts's Sue knife,
SOE has lost alot under this game and unless they really focused on it.. they can't bring it back up.. they waited too long and Torres just wants it to hit the fan so he can make the next World of Warcraft with Blizzard... the 12 year old..
At least LA supports the Emulator now..
Torres is long gone from SWG. He is working on "the Force Unleashed" now. Jake Neri is the LA producer now.
Sony has the money. They had better do something because you can bet George Lucas wants a bigger piece of the MMO pie, and he knows full-well that Bioware could get the job done right, like Sony SHOULD have. Also, every day brings us 1 day closer to the EMU going live, and SWG:NGE going DEAD. SOE has some serious decisions to make, and soon.
Err- let me rephrase that.. Sony Has the money.. but the Star Wars Galaxies Development team and their reserve funding are running dangerously low. There, lol now it makes sense! Sorry.. of course SOE and Sony in their own have enough money.. what with the EQ series.. the consol funds.. and then their electronics..
Deadmeat said " I think I am safe in saying the 50K number is vastly wrong. Jestor sez ' its more like 40k"
And this is the last question on this subject I will post in this thread. Regardless of numbers (which is 40k or much less) , the best measure of a game is how much you like it. (Considering that 250k have flee the game in horror) One of our goals is to keep people coming into the game, and we will always be looking to do that. But (we are too stupid to provide Pre-CU servers so we have to farm it out to you -- our customers) I think what you all really care about is the enjoyment you get out of it. - Please, some one hit me with the same stupid stick, Soe I can walk around like I am in a fog.
All I know is that in the 27 years I have lived I have never had a game taken away from me forever I just want to play good ol SWG again.... I totally miss it

While the NGE changed a lot, the game really has improved since it's introduction. I am like you, a person who feels they were torn from their favorite game by a spiteful corporation seeking money over happy subscribers. But I have come back to the game recently and found that not all is lost. A lot of what makes SWG so fantastic is still in the game (or has been re-added to the game.) It's still the NGE, but it's come a long way toward bringing back the old spirit of things.
Oh and on topic, theres no way there are less then 50k subs right now. On the weekend, peak time, many of the servers are at medium population, some even at heavy, and SOE hasn't consolidated even two servers. The game is doing quite well. It's not the old days (or post CU were there were a TUN of players, some servers on the verge of being critically overloaded, before the NGE hit.)
But yea, give the game a second shot, if you really loved SWG as you seem to. Just don't come back treating the game as your old SWG. Look at it with fresh eyes and you'll soon find yourself seeing a lot of it's old charms come back to you.
Oh and start a new character, just to get going. You'll be completely lost otherwise, if you haven't played since the NGE hit. QFE. It took me a long, long time to get over the anger the CU and NGE made me feel- but I've gone back recently- and SWG is still the best MMO on the market, no matter if it has 26 professions or 6.
I hear you, I have been watching over the offical forums and Dev threads they seem to be getting things back in order I just don't know if its worth giving another try again. I'm scared to get in and open my freinds list. But that Deadmeat guy does seem to be talking to the community a lot, I just don't know how to take him yet is he really talking for the good of the community or is he just doing what SOE thinks should be done just to keep people with high hopes?
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=372083 All out war ROFL! The amazing mass of players usually in Restuss must have all been at IHOP celebrating Father's Day. Either that or they must just have been spread out.You know - questin' and stuff. What a joke.
SWG is by far one of the best if not THE best MMO on the market today. It's still the great Star Wars experience that I've always had since I started in BETA...no make that BETTER than it was during LIVE pre-CU. With the maturity of the game and it's player base...thank God most of those idiots left with NGE; SWG rocks. I've been back regularly for quite a while now and enjoy it very much. Several of my EQ friends are about to join as well as they recently got Station Access accounts and we had a blast during their 14-day Trial period. Server loads are mostly Medium except mornings during the regular work-week. But that's not abnormal on any game. I'm on Bria and going to Mos Eisley is just as busy as Coronet EVER was pre-NGE.
With 3rd person center-view back; Creature Handler / Bio-Engineer better than ever with Beast Master; auto-target / fire back; House Pack-up on the way; and Droid Engineer coming, this game is WAY better than ever. Also Teras Kasi is sort of back with Entertainer's able to use hand-to-hand combat techniques. I still hope that Teras Kasi will come back fully as an Expertise. If it doesn't no biggy, I have my Jedi still and plenty of other toons to play.
I'm looking forward to what the future holds. Here's to playing a vibrant alive SWG, versus trying to live in the pre-NGE past.

I still play SWG and I must say, I find what you say so untrue the game is not way better but it is getting better and to say that you are happy that REAL VETS left . is to be a idiot. only 3 servers have any real kind of population and the economy is broke on all servers they need to do a server merger but the remaining vets will cry and say its not fair to then . I love this game but damn how bad can the player base mess up a game every thing that has happened to SWG is because of players crying all the time they should have told players to shut up and just fixed bugs and this game would be still alive and have a large number of players the game is way better then when the NGE hit but it still needs alot of work but things are on the upswing with this new dev team peace.

Dude go back to the "current forums" and stop spreading your lies here. Seriously, I had a toon on Bria as recent as MAY, and the server is dead. I created a toon on there because it had the highest population, I thought... Hey, I'll see if I can find some people and enjoy the game...
NOPE. Coronet back when the game launched had HUNDREDS of players, most cities did. Mos Eisley is the ONLY city with population now, and is PERHAPS 100 - 200 on a good night.
Seriously, posters like you who come on here and flat out LIE to get the vets to re-sub need to go away. It's getting old and it isn't ethical. Do us all a favor and stop spreading this garb around. Tell it how it REALLY is and let the vets make up their minds.
"Mos Eisley is just as busy as Coronet EVER wsa pre-NGE" is about as ridiculous as saying the NGE makes SOE money... I saw it a month ago and it was STILL VERY VERY VERY VERY DEAD, and I gave it a fair shake because I wanted to play SWG.
It's funny how day after day, month after month, these same discussions about server numbers (and the inaccuracy of estimates) continue. Yet the one thing that is never disputed is the fact that current numbers are far less then they were pre-CU.
I've said in other posts that SOE never truly appreciated the fact that the community in SWG was their meal ticket.
I'd go even further back in server populations and say that the introduction of holocrons was the beginning of the downward spiral in subscription numbers. On the pre-release forums we were constantly told a.) how much freedom we were going to have to play the game as we wanted to and b.) how unique and mysterious the path to Jedi would be.
I know a large number of people left when the holocrons revealed that a.) if you ever wanted to atain Force senstivity you'd have to play the game the way SOE wanted you to and b.) the path to Jedi was just a typical MMORPG grind.
SOE has tried three times to make SWG a better game, and every time they've seen a drop in subs. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if I learned the only major thing that they ever introduced without an adverse effect on sub numbers was JtL.
"the path to Jedi was just a typical MMORPG grind."
Wanted to comment on this statement.
Typical MMO grind? I dont see that. Instead I see a game that unattended play was legitimate. IMO that is pure cheese....squared no less. I finally broke down and tried SWG during the CU timeframe. The first thing I heard when I hit MO on Bria was an ent spamming services, and who the highest tippers were. Didnt think much of it, until I realized it was a macro running.
Unattended play is da debil....well the Waterboy's mother thinks it is anways :P
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Yeah id have to say its at 50k or less, i was on bloodfin at peak time, and did a bit of traveling and comparisons. The only places that had roughly 200 bunched up were in restus, alot of people ive seen while i buffed them at the mos eisley cantina, and mos eisley. The rest of the major cities like theed etc only had roughly 10 people.
So........ yeah.... 50k or less would be about right.
I canceled the account again today. It will never be the same.

I thought SOE was greedy? If they are so greedy why are they letting it tank? If they know what worked and now what does NOT WORK then why continue? *LA smiles in the background* I think, as some others have put forth, that SOE had little to do with SWG and the horrors. I think LA had the ball and they punted it into the parking lot which killed a blad eagle feeding on a rat which caused the rats lower bowels to burst releasing the plague 2.0 which killed off 250,000 subscribers!
Or I put forth that Leeroy Jenkins is the SWG/SOE/LA main goto guy.
What a pity SWG is dead and it could have been saved...good job LA!
i have been back three times since the NGE and i find it just has less and less people and the game gets worse and worse i ahve loves the game so much but SOE let is die
and any starwars fan or MMO fan who played before the NGE knows what a horrible thing SOE did
i mean they could have followed DAOC and made a few classic servers (which are doing very well for EA/mythic)
but no... they couldn't
and the only thing that pisses me off is the people who come on telling lies about the game and say who good it is..
if only i could go back in time and slap everyone at SOE.... i would in a heart beat

Thats easy, because they know its doomed. And they know it will be unless they will bring back precu. Then on the other hand they just wont outright bring it back. So they do changes like like beastmaster aka chapt 6. They would rather not take FULL admission of guilt and half-ass it than to fully give us an apology and make amends. So the game will never change for the better. Trust me I went back and played the trial even paid for a month. Not much of a change in feel. It used to be more than just pvp. Now it seems thats all they got going.
No, im sorry LA did NOT have much to do with this fiasco, sure they approved it, but it was SoE's baby. Making SoE the one with the most fault. Heck they have already admitted to it. So please.... stop saying its all LA's fault, because it isnt. LA doesn't have a bad wrap of making sweeping changes to games, SoE does.

ok lets assume for a moment those numbers are fairly accurate.. how many of the missin' 250k accounts do ya recon would make it back if SoE made pre-CU servers available?
I say swg pre-cu Will take at least 500k or more players with easy. It's simple, There is no other game for us swg vets, many might say no, But most will come back, + all the hype that would be created, Just think about it, every mmo player heard the words Pre-cu somewhere, How great it was, And How bad SOE messed the game, you can count to a lot , a lot! of people to try the game If it ever goes back to pre-cu.
I see a game that unattended play was legitimate. IMO that is pure cheese....squared no less. I finally broke down and tried SWG during the CU timeframe. My friend, I could not agree more. You started during the CU... by the time you started, I and a small number of very active Entertainers on the forums had been beating the "get rid of AFK macro bots" drum for nearing 2 years. We told them till we were blue in the keyboard that they had to get rid of AFKing... that allowing any form of AFK macroing was sending the message that they knew their game was too boring to play, and didn't care to make it better. We begged them to get rid of it, and they refused. Their message to us was that an AFK bot working 24/7 to heal wounds and spam the crap out of the Mining Outpost is "working as intended."
So, most of us gave up. I refused to play in public venues and only played in my home cantina, where I could boot people if they were rude, and where AFKers were absolutely not allowed. I had a small cadre of steady customers who knew me and some would even save up their BF until they could find me so I could get XP off of healing them... But the cantinas were graveyards of brain-dead AFK macro-tainers, just as you say... despite all our many efforts to get the devs to see that this was a very bad thing for the community.
They didn't listen... SOE's devs NEVER listen. The signature trait of SOE is that they utterly ignore the player base and do whatever the hell they want to their games... and then they turn around and act all surprised when players cancel on them.

That's the million dollar question. Nobody knows for sure why they are being so stupid.
Quite probably, given their incessant and very large WOW-envy, they are hoping that if they just tweak this WOW-ized version of SWG enough, it will finally be a WOW-sized hit. That's never going to happen but their ability to delude themselves into thinking bigger subs are just around the corner is without peer in the industry, from all appearances.
