new smuggler

im playing a new smuggler  im at level 9 and just landed on tatooine and about to start the L quest ' when i level up to ten what  are the must have's in the expertise system to be a good  ranged smuggler . id be most greatfull for any tips. and how do i check my pilot skill level. thank's.

    I think you hit --> P <-- and then Choose --> Space <--

    This should tell you where you stand in your leveling.

    I did both range and melee. The heal sux but the innate armor is nice. "Call A Friend" & "Medic" are useful. The medic will make you angry but has really helped with the difficulty increase. It only costs a point for each if a remember correctly but has a looooooong recharge. Lately I have pondered on whether Smuggler might be ideal for BeastMaster.

    im only a  lvl 25 smuggler, i personaly suggest choosing more or less melee or ranged, because you will get half as many points if you split between the two, and in combat you dont have time to swith between the 2 anyway.. i chose ranged and i am getting along fine, thats my suggestion

    Yes, you really want to map out how you spend your points and doing both many not be worth the sacrifice. The combat switching is another story:

    Switching to Melee:

    /ui action toolbarPane01;

    /pause .25;

    /ui action toolbarSlot00;

    On second toolbar pane I placed all my melee abilities, weapons and stims. Bind this macro to my Q key and after I press it switches to this pane (melee) and fires off the first item in the toolbar, in this case arms my melee weapon. I also have one for range and just switch back and forth with key presses that automatically arm me for either combat style . Works great!
