I recently got a hold of information that disney i releasing the game "Pirates of The Carribean Online" I have seen a mast of videos on its gamplay. The adventure will partake you on a vast journey through quests and missions which invlolve people from the movie as well as many new characters. The site which all of this can be viewd at is Http://www.PiratesOnline.com . The Battle system was placed in very efficiently. Learning how to control your moves is simply a breeze. Being able to start out as a pirate and working your way to getting your own ship is invigorating to all the hardcore Jack Sparrow fans. This game could do some more on the graphics side, but other than that i give this game a .

And you base that all on 10 lines of text..how ?
Old school games weren't based on Movies. All games based on Movies fail, the same goes for Movies based on Games.
Old school RPG's, like Secret of mana, I still play that game, make it an MMO, I'll cheer.
If Pirates takes 5 years to develop, people will have forgotten it even exists. Games taken from movies are launched corresponding with said movie. The project will be rushed, the gameplay will most likely be korean style grinding and if you like that, thats great for you.

I guess i have been duped. It has been proven in the past that games develope on movies never seem to work. Yes the game will be rushed, but our technology has been improved and more things can be set through patches. I guess it will be a game for Pirate fans. Ive read some overviews and the results looked promising. I only hope people such as you will get a chance to actually play it. Maybe uou will change your mind. I just want to kick some pirate ass.
I have to dispute that MMO games based on movies don't work. The problem has been that all the games based on movies thus far have been rushed into production, killed with drastic changes, and destroyed by non-emersion.
Star Wars Galaxies was successful at first because it offered promise, that was changed and now it's hanging by a thread. But it was still at the begining a good game concept. Rushed into production, destroyed by non-emersion and killed with drastic changes.
The Matrix Online never got off the ground. Interresting concept that was racked with bugs from the get go. Rushed into production.
Lord of the Rings Online although based more on books than movies, this game has had a good launch. Has been complained about having some non-emersion problems and needs drastic changes, however it seems to be ever evolving, at least thus far, so I'm not counting this one out yet.
D&D Online Also not based on a movie, but had a major tie to high profile such as a movie. This game also seemed to be rushed into production and has some non-emersion issues.
These complaints are evident about almost every game on the list of released games on this site and doesn't have alot of things uncommon with any of the other games that weren't based on movies. So I dont' think that's a very good arguement. The only difference is the amount of Fan base you get with a game based on movies or other genres. You get alot of loyal fans even if they're not super impressed with the game, at times they support it simply for the fan-dom-ness of beign a fan.
You dispute my opinion, but say the exact same thing in the underlying text. I said Games on Movies fail. I also gave the reasons why, one of them being : Being rushed.
And about Pirates, it's developer is Disney. Disney is family entertainment. Kicking pirate butt will not go with bloodshed. The whole game will be designed to allow the largest possible public, which is even worse than WoW.
Given how bad the single player PotC:AWE game was, I have zero faith in them making an MMO out of the IP.
Yes pirates are cool, and all, but really what sold the first movie was that it was a a great summer popcorn action flick by Bruckheimer. Johnny Depp as Cpt Jack, and Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa were great, though I'd have liked them to have more screen time together. The secondary characters were well done as well. Good mix of action, "thrills" and laughs.
Second and Third movies not so much so, but adequate, despite having scripts that were clearly slapped together as a money grab.
Translating any of those things that made the first(and second/third(sorta)) film(s) successful cannot be done in a video game, let alone an MMO.
You want massively multiplayer online pirates? Wait for Pirates of the Burning Sea. All the action, and piratey goodness, none of the baggage that comes from being attached to a particular IP.
sure you can't play it yet but when it comes out it will be on a completely different level than PotC
edit*
yeah what the guy above me said
die.
In the mean time, if you want a pirate MMO then try PotBS when it is released which I'm sort of expecting to be October/November.
