I... like Korean MMO's more than... American.

Yes I have decided that this is true. North American MMO's are often the same old thing... Fantasy, fantasy, fantasy, and more fantasy. I look at Warhammer and just see that orc on the banner and shudder at another old fantasy game. I hate WASD movement. I don't understand why people would rather like WASD than point and click. Point and click gives you much more precise control that I avoid games that are WASD. No, I am not Korean. I am a Canadian and I will stand with this while I game. I hope to play Granado Espandio and have a good time.

Kudos to anyone who comes here and talks properly. If you have half a brain, I will respect you even if you are flaming me.

Different strokes for different folks. But I like both asian theme games as well as some western/european theme games. Let's face it, asian MMOs developed much much later than western MMOS. They picked up the concepts from early games such as Everquests, The Realm and various other games single and multiplayer games. Then there's the culture factored into it. Many asian gamers like cute childish beautiful (bishounen/bishoujo style) avatars while most western gamers like mature looking avatars (there are always exceptions of course). Personally I like both but that's just me.

Alight...ummm...congratulations? I mean I understand you like the Korean style MMOs more than N. American. Why not? For me personally, I don't like the grind usually. That's not to say I haven't had my days of just leveling in the games I do play and I have been known to download a game just to whack at MOBs. I had a good time with RAN for a bit, but it got too boring after a while. So, I am not sure if you are looking for support or conversation to the contrary, but all I can say is that we all have our own tastes, likes and dislikes. That is a good thing and makes a market that gives us choices.

As for tired Fantasy, I would agree, except that is a pretty narrow view. Granted fantasy based MMOs are the majority, but there are definately other flavours. EVE, Matrix, Star Wars, Neocron, Anarchy Online and soon Tabula Rasa are all hard core Sci Fi. Second Life is supposedly reality based and mostly social. City of Heroes and City of Villains are comic book/superhero based. There was a driving based game a while back, kind of like MMO meets Need for Speed, but that bombed and was shut down. Fallen Earth is coming eventually, that is post holocaust Sci Fi. I am sure there are others, but you get my drift.

    Enjoy your gaming :D

Well in my eyes, pretty much every Korean MMO has the same old thing, 1/2 naked elf girls running at a funny angle showing their pants...

With that in mind I don't really like Korean MMOs that much, they're just the same old thing Pants, pants and more pants, plus point and click, eeewww

I can see your point of view, but here's mine.

I am the oposite of you, I dislike the point and click movement.  I find it to be not as intuitive and slow.  With a WASD or similar movement setup I can use one hand to move around while the other is doing targeting and/or activating various abilities.  In responce to your comment on all the north american games being based solely on fantasy, you may be right.  Meny of them involve knights, archers shooting bows and arrows and an overall general feel of the medieval era.  If you ask me though when I see the Korean/asian games that come out they seem to fall into 2 persistant categories.

    1.  They look like lineage 2 or even go as far as utilizing the Lineage 2 engine.  They have reasonably realistic character models and feature over the top battle sequences.  They also more so then often feature the point and click movement style that I do not like.

    2. They look like Ragnarok Online.  They are stylised in an overly cartoony fashion, and feature meny other kinds of popping graphics and general eye candy.  Again the feature point and click movement.

I am saying all of this with limited experience with azian/korean games so some points may be flawed or not apply.  But just as you may think that north american games feature the same overall content I suggest to you that azian games feature the same graphic style and interface.  I preffer the orcs and D&D setups and long for the day when the makers of Baldurs Gate make an mmo with a slightly faster pace then their RPG games, I would be all over this.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Sorry, but your first sentence made me chuckle. NA MMO's are quite often the same theme, but Asian MMO's are almost the EXACT SAME GAME 90% of the time.

And Point and click giving more precise control than WASD? How did you come to that conclusion? Because its actually completely wrong, heh, no offence.

WASD: Movement in 4 different directions at the push of a button, leaving the mouse free to control the camera.

PandC: Movement only in a straight line, and having to take turns controlling the camera and the character.

    Whow whow whow.

The control issue, ok, your thing. I like WASD more, you can strafe, walk backwards and all that, and have the Mouse free to click on buttons for skills. Just found WASD PvP more fun than click PvP, but that's not my ploblem. Different Folks, different tastes. Can't argue over that.

    HOWEVER:

How DARE you call WAR "Another old fantasy game"? Have you even the SLIGHTEST of an idea about HOW DIFFERENT a Warhammer Orc is to EVERY OTHER FANTASY ORC?

    OK, I'll explain some things:

Warhammer Greenskins (Orcs, Goblins, Snotlings and so on) are Mushrooms. That's right, MUSHROOMS.

They are ASEXUAL Space Mushrooms. There are no Male and Female Orcs. There are only Orcs. They produce Spores, which they releasy over time, and a whole burst of 'em releases when they die. In cold, wet places, those Spores grow to Snotling, Orcs, Goblins.

I'm not kidding you. OK, at first, this was only true for the Warhammer 40k Orks, but in WAR, it's official and GW approved that Orcs are Space Mushrooms.

But that's not enough difference yet

There's Waaagh!!!. "Now, what is Waaagh!!!?" you might ask. Well, Waaagh!!! basically is some sort of magical energy. It becomes stronger, the more Greenskins unite under one Banner, to form a huge Army, or better said: a huge Mob of Hooligans, in order to fight a big war. Waaagh!!! energy is very mysterious, and it appears that it makes Orcs more intelligent.

Usually, Orcs don't really think. (They're mushrooms, remember?)

Orcs only want to do one thing: Fight. They don't care WHAT or WHO they fight, as long as they can fight. Because of this, different Clans often fight each other, when noone else is near to smash.

In that case, they don't have any tactics at all. All Orcs run to each other and try to kill as many as possible. No strategy, nothing.

But, when a particulary big and Strong Orc (the Biggest and Strongest Orc naturally is the Boss of the other Orcs) manages to unite multiple clans under his Banner, Waaagh!!!-Energy builds up, and suddenly Orcs can think strategically. They can build Siege equipment, ladders, they can wait for good opportunities to attack instead of rushing bluntly into the fray.

Then there are Shamans who can manipulate the Waaagh!!!-Energy and use it to cast a variety of different Spells.

There is SO MUCH goodness about Warhammer Greenskins, but I can't possibly put it all into one Post.

    But to remind you:

Warhammer IS NOT YOUR ODRINARY FANTASY SETTING!!!

All the Korean MMOs I have ever tried are so identical they could all be the same game as far as I'm concerned.  The grind I experienced was so mind-numbing... I don't think I'll try any ever again.

personally i've run into more pathing issues with point and click than i have with WASD

FFXI's 8246 control is good enough for me and it's not even twitch (but cause it's console too you can use a gamepad if you want)

So what you're saying is that you prefer Ridiculously identical click-to-move grinding games?

Can't call that a MMORPG really...

I like asian single player games like some of the final fantasy series of games and other games made by Squaresoft.  So far I haven't liked any Asian MMOs.  They seem very grinding in nature like EQ and I've already done that.  WASD movement has really been improved over the last few years.  You can zoom in and out feeling comfortable in both first and third person in most games.  It's a lot better for things like jumping over holes, swimming up or down in the water, and climbing ladders.  It also allows for better camera control with the mouse as well as using the mouse more for combat then telling them where to go.  I used to like point and click in 2D games like Baldur's Gate and Diablo, but in 3D games it feels very awkward.  That includes games like Never Winter Nights.

I'm with you bro most of the american mmo's are real nerdy, most times foreign mmo's have some bad assery to it.  It has better monster designs better pvp etc.  Better armor designs as well.  EQ armor is crap, I must say I love WoW armor design but armor and monster design in Korean mmo's is way better imo.

I'm surprised how so many people picked this up. I knew some would come and vehemently spew either way but not a whole lot of people. And, as I said, if you did defend your point with proper english and showing some brain control, I don't mind. The world would be boring if everyone thought the same way I did.

Clearly this person is working hand in hand with various unnamed Korean agencies, or is a possible terrorist, a mongbat, or all of the above.

As such I feel it is our patriotic duty to report their suspicious behavior to the DHS.

We must protect WASD movement, no matter the personal cost.
