Title says it all and from what i understand i aint alone.
WOW for me has becomea daily chore to log in, if your not grinding rep or attunment whats left to do? so i've decided to finally lay down my sword and leave the game.
Anyways i was just wondering, how are others who've been playing for a while keeping themselves interested in the game?

I would say it all comes down to your gameplay and what kind of guild if any you are in. My guild and I are still having a blast, we just do whatever pops up that day. I would say it has a lot to do with the peeps you play the game with, the core players in my guild have been together playing MMO for 5 years now so I would say that makes a big difference.
As far as the second poster, what game are you talking about that is out there right now worth playing? I have tried some of these so called new gen games and have yet to find one worth putting any time into. Until War or AOC come out there isnt much worth playing IMO. Of course War and AOC have yet to come out so you cant say those are games worth playing until your actually playing them.
Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

I came back for the expansion maybe 2 months ago after taking a break for about 3 months and I agree with you. Its not that there isnt anything to do its just that the game requires you to do it over and over and over again. I really hoped things would have changed for the better with BC but it just seems to have made the tedious grind even worse. All they did was change the places you go to grind. The heroic thing was just a horrible idea as well.. What a cheap ass way of getting out of making new instances. The 5200 gold epic flying mount grind is always new and exciting. It's kind of sad when a company that makes over 100 million a month off of its players offers up so very little.
The leveling process from 60-70 was about as easy as it could get. Seemed almost pointless. It was more like a way for people to grind the 900 gold for the regular flying mount. I still play even though I think its coming to an end for me really soon. It just isnt holding my interest like I had hoped it would.
What, you expected WoW to hold your interest forever? One could suppose that, due to the fact that WoW is such a fantastic game, people get addicted to WoW at some point foolishly assume that they will enjoy WoW indefinately. Poor, misguided souls - the love affair will ends, as it does for all MMOs - eventually. Don't worry though, there are plenty of newbies to take your place. Unlike other MMOs which dilute their content with time, WoW 's "timesinks" are moderate in comparison.
There's the ludicrous claim by some jaded burnout cases that other MMOs take more skill, but anyone with common sense and a basic grasp of game design theory will know this simply isn't true.
EQ lasted several years for me mainly because there wasn't any decent competition, and the community was fun, before it turned stagnant. EVE is fairly interesting because it makes no excuses about timesinks: You will gain this skill improvement in two weeks and you are required to do absolutely nothing for it to happen. We're spoiled now.
So um, you got bored with WoW. Right, what's the point of this thread again? Ah, an excuse for dissenting opinions towards an MMO we hear all the time about because it's so popular. So what's the point of this reply? Well....
I MUST ELIMINATE DISSONANT ELEMENTS.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
Not to sound like a complete jerk but could you name some off? I've been trying a bunch since i quit with the AQ release and I can't find any to grab my interest. I still havent tryed EQ2 again though, and a lot of people say that game is awesome now.
edit: i take that back, i loved Vanguard(flame away) but the community died so quick that groups were waaay too hard to find and I followed suit with the rest.
