Who will make it to the top World of Warcraft or EQ 2 ?

MatyasMatyas Member Posts: 8

Will the designers of world of warcraft able to come out on top or will the graphics steal the lead in EQ 2?

Many people debate about the two games and which one is it worth buying and playing.

Back in the days when I stilled played UO. Was just as much fun as playing EQ. I think Its the people and the creativity behind an online game which attracts people not only the graphics.

I hope world of warcraft will offer us some cool creativity which will grab the players Interest.

From the numerous screenshots and gameplay movies, I can easily say that WoW looks way better (visually) at this point. WoW is beautiful -- like playing art. EQ 2, on the other hand, looks like a Barbie MMORPG. Everything looks like plastic in EQ 2.

Btw, it's still too early to judge which will have better gameplay, content, etc.

I wish people would put these silly questions in general discussion and leave our quiet WoW forums alone.

    Seriously.
Take your EQ2 and WoW comparisons to General Discussion.
    1. More people read General Discussion
    2. You'll get more WoW sided opinions here than there.

Personally I think WOW looks a lot better! Sure the raw visual quality of EQ2 may be better, but I've looked at screenshots and it just plain lacks the character, originality and unique design that WOW's graphics have!  Besides, the WOW universe is just infinitely cooler in my opinion!

    WOW all the way!

Okay, I don't know what to think of your posts anymore because you've also said

"In my humble opinion, the only decent game Blizzard is making is World of Warcraft.  I never enjoyed any of their single player games that much, but I guess I don't enjoy any single player games image"

Though it's clear you dislike Blizzard, you said it was decent, now you say you can't stand it. You've also been gonig to the WoW threads for at least 2 months. So obviously you come here to find something out, more reasons to hate the game? Since I've yet to see you post anything informative on WHY the game is to be disliked.

You're clearly an EQ2 fanboi, and more power to ya. I just don't see why you would come here to insult the WoW community when I like to consider myself a part of it. After all, I love and support wow (I used to hate the idea of it, but I've done a lot of research), so when you say general remarks like that, it's hard to prove anything. Unless you consider me horrible. I would hope not.

  • You cant judge a game until retail release. Its all just hype, look at SWG it was hyped to be the last mmorpg for everyone then people quit.

Honestly, all  you have to do is compare games that blizzard and sony have made in the past.  If you remember when EQ first came out it was pretty buggy, and there were always a lot of patches.  Now you look back to blizzard's history of games.  Blizzard doesn't release half developed games like EQ was.  Blizzard has always made sure that their games had the content and efficiency that they promised.  Even if it meant delaying the previously announced release date.  So if you look at Sony's and Blizzards history, your gonna see that EQ2 is probably gonna be 3/4 of the way finished, while WoW is going to be completely finished with all the content that they have promised, even though it'll probably mean a 3 month delay.

They don´t need to have better graphics because the game is better in all other ways!!!::::28::

I sure think it will, and because of that, World of Warcraft will make it to the top, not EQ2, those who believe in EQ2, I have to disapoint you, but the graphics aren't that good, just take a look at the doll-like monsters and player races.

SOE has made only two games which they did not get outside of a buyout. Planetside and SWG, both are very mediocre titles - but they get better with age so who knows. Blizzard has made very succesful single player RTS and RPG games on the PC and action games on the console.

    Winner: Blizzard

The sad thing is even two of their station pass games are taken from others such as Harmless Games Infantry, and the Subspace engine for Cosmic Rift. Come to think of it Tanarus was made not by Sony but by Vivendi. Oh well, if you can't make 'em buy 'em! Works for SOE and Microsoft. Though I kind of like Microsoft buying out other companies because it usually improves the market.

Now, I have been following WoW since quite some time, and I believe it's gonna come out somewhere in Fall 2004(August-December). As for EQ2, I haven't been following it much so does anyone know when it comes out?

I do hope that WoW will come out before EQ2 because that might encourage even more people to come 'try out' WoW and if they really like the game, they'll probably stay even though EQ2 came out.

As for me, I was just simply amazed by the environnement that World of Warcraft gives you. I can't wait to continue the story!

First off, EQ2's graphics are worse than World of warcrafts...In EQ2 the models might be really detailed and good looking BUT the draw distance(max distance to see objects) in EQ2 is absolutely horrible!  After about 250 m distance you won't be able to see any objects.  But in WoW, the models have low polygons and high texture graphics and the draw distance is VERY good...meaning the player can look out in the far distance and actually see the objects.

Would you rather have goodlooking models(like in EQ2) with a small draw distance(where you'll always be looking in the distance to see nothing, but as you move closer to the same spot the trees just "magically" pop up) or would you rather have model slike in WoW where you can see trees and players far away?

The latter is much better because it allows for better gameplay and gameplay always wins over graphics.

Secondly, WoW will be better because they know what their doing.  EQ2 made a big mistake with their graphics.

Assuming both games are released this year, I think WoW is going to be the bigger seller.  Both games are visually attractive (I like WoW's cartoony style better than EQ2's photo-realism, but others may feel differently) but EQ2 isn't going to look its best on anything but a bleeding edge machine.  WoW already runs very smoothly and looks great on a three-year old PC - my friend is in the Beta and I've seen it with my own eyes.  As for EQ2, people are going to have to upgrade for this game.  A lot.  Unless you're a hardcore FPS fan, your current computer will not be able to handle this game.   Just look at the bloated reccomended system specs of the latest *EQ1* expansion....

If two spiffy new, high profile MMORPGs are released at the same time, people will naturally gravitate toward the one they don't have to buy a new $2500.00 system for.  Blizzard, unlike SOE, has always understood and respected the fact that most gamers don't upgrade their PCs every six months.  This is part of the reason why every new game they release shoots right to the top of the best seller list.

    Not so sure about that...

Greyface "buy a new $2500.00 system for"

... I spent about $230 total getting a new mobo-cpu-vid card to run Planet Side smoothly on 1024X768 at full view distance. Pluss another 512 ram. Then there was the $150 for a nice monitor so it would LOOK nice (also makes stealthers WAY easier to see. ^.^')

But still, well well under 2500, and any system that can run PS at full view distance with a decent FPS in the big battles, can run ANY game out there, and I do mean ANY game out there. Planet Side is so graphicaly demanding, especialy with the large scale battles *Ram hog!* and the fast paced action, compared to other mmorpg's. If I had $2500, I'd take $300 of that to get the latest Geforce card, and another 512 ram. Then I'd take the remaining $2,200 and get a body kit, lowering springs, aem cold air intake, JDM black 1 piece head lights, and still have money left over... *drools*

Basicaly just saying, if someone wants an up to date near top of the line computer, they shouldn't be spending anything over $500 to upgrade, unless they're starting from the ground up.

EQ was my first MMORPG and damn did it scr*w my life. i isolated myself from any other MMORPG because of it, thinking that others will have just the same problems. now thanks to my trust in blizz's work i now think that there are decent MMORPGs like SWG, AO but most of all WoW. but i have to say that, this should of gone in general discussion to maximise the results since most the people posting here are biased for WoW. put it in general discussion and most the posts will change significantly, i so want to see those EQ2 supporters back up EQ2 with their lame arguments, i'll rebut them to hell.

Here is a list of reasons why Eq2 will be awsome and will blow WoW out of the water.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    1.  Locked encounters:  When you engage a monster it becomes a locked encouter.  This prevents kitting, kill stealing, loot stealing, ect.  I think this is an awsome idea.

    2.  Combat:  The combat in Eq2 looks simply stunning.  If you have watched some of the vidoes than you would know what i mean.

    3.  Guilds:  Guilds are much more important in Eq2 than they were in Eq1.  Guilds will compete with other guilds for prestige, honor, and favor with the rulers of their city.  They are much more involved than in Eq1 where they were just names on a list.  Guilds will be able to own guild houses too.

    4.  Families:  They will consist of people with the last name.  They will be important, just not as important as guilds.  You will beable to notice what family a person is in by observing their last name.

    5.  Fellowships:  They will consist of a maximum of 6 people.  They will always share experiance with each other no matter where the other members are.

    6.  Housing:  Players will beable to own their own housing.  From instanced appartment style housing, to massive guild mansions.  The appartment style will be easy to obtain, but the stand alone housing will mostly only be obtainable by the highest level guilds.

    7.  Races:  There will be 16 playable races.  From the shortest gnome, to the tallest ogre.

    8.  Classes:  There will be a total of 46 classes.  Eq2 implements a branching style, where you choose what path to take as you advance.

    9.  Character customization:  Players will beable to customize their appearance with complete control.  Giving them even more options on how to make their character exactly the way they want them to be.

    10.  Lore/history:  Eq2 will have an unimagianble amount of lore and history.  All of this will play an important role in gameplay and guests.

    11.  NPCs with voices:  Every NPC in Eq2 will have their own voice.  NPCs will actually call out to you if they have a quest that you are capable of doing.

    12.  Artisan class:  The artisan can get experiance from using their skill.  They don't have to fight a single monster ever.  They live sort of "normal" lives, having a job, and getting money from it.

    13.  Tradeskills:  Tradeskills are much more advanced and indepth in Eq2 than in any other.  Eq2 has a revolutionary system.  Instead of just click, click, click, WOOT!!! i made a sword.  You actually have to "engage" the furnace and craft your item.  You have to keep the tempreture at a right level, and you have to work with the metal to form the desired result.

    14.  Two starting cities:  In Eq2 there will be only 2 starting cities, which is an awsome idea.  These will always be populated because there are only 2.  Each will have around 17 zones each, making them massive.  They will provide a hub for trading and traveling.  In most mmorpgs with many starting cities, you end up with only one or two actually being populated with people.  The others are compelety abondoned.  There are only 2 starting cities, but there are more than 2 cities, just they are alot smaller and less important.

    15.  Exploration:  Exporlation will be an important factor in Eq2.  With no one knowing what happened to the rest of Norath it will be your job to explore and learn.

    16.  Boats:  Boats will be the primary mode of transportation in Eq2.  Players will beable to actually naviagte boats instead of them being on a set course.  There of course will be set routes for some boats.  But players can guide some boats.  Allowing them more freedom in where they want to go.

    17.  Graphics:  The graphics in Eq2 are simply amazing.  Just look at this picture:

    image

I can go on, but i won't at this time.
