what is beta testing?

this might be a very ridiculus question but im new to computer gaming.what is beta testing and can i do it watever it it?

    Beta testing the stage a game goes into before its released as a finished product.  Testing is required to find and fix the bugs related to the game. 

    There is open and closed beta

    Open Beta - Everyone is allow to test and try the game before release normally happens after a closed beta

    Closed Beta - Requires signing up normally at the website of the game and is restricted to who ever the developers wish to let in

    Its possible to get into closed betas by contests as well.

    You can do it, just have to find out what game is in what stage and search for sign ups and hope for the best

    Completely agree with the Vanguard statement, sad to see Sony still has it :)

    Sony is a gaming company that has come out with many MMO's and is known far and wide for screwing them up. SWG use to be the biggest game out there and possibly still could be if they did not make the changes they did. I am not experienced with what the did with Everquest or any other games they screwed up but being a fan of SWG it was the biggest screw up in MMO history known to the common people. They are fixing it but it will never be the same as it was.



    For Alpha testing......Alpha testing is a phase in a game where the company is releasing the game to very few people in the game. To test for them, Some times they won't even let the public know that Alpha testing is in progress because they don't want to many questions asked at one time period from some people interested in the game. In there community forums they don't want a post every 5 minutes that says "Whens open/closed Beta coming out. Its been in Alpha forever!" However same thing as Beta testing just more private then Beta is. In this phase they keep as much information disclosed to the public as they see fit.
