Okay, lets face it. It is the "Veteran Refuge" forum. We all do our best and voicing our disgruntlement and disdain for SOE and LA and to show what we have lost to new potential players. Thats what were here for.
Lets take a different point of view for one thread and tell our stories. Of the fun we had and the stuff we did. The people we met and the things that made the game ours and why we missed what we had so much. Try to keep the bashing of SOE/LA to a minimum(tho they do deserve it!) so we can concentrate on the good stuff for one thread.
So, here's my store:
I bought the game since a buddy of mine had been telling me about it. He didnt have a PC(console ho..heh) and was really interested in it. I bought it. He came by and made a toon to play and learn about it. He wanted to play it but waited til 6 months later to buy a pc just to play it.
So, I began playing the third day after launch. I missed the chaotic first starts where the servers crashed and people were merged inside building n stuff. It was crazy. I remember cruising the forums and waiting in the now permalocked launchpad chatroom for a CSR or even TH or someone to announce that the servers would be starting soon. I remember staring at the server lists and refreshing it constantly to see if my server(StarSider) was finally starting to load or even better say Online!. I loved seeing threads or chatroom spam saying "Starsider is up!" Back when the servers were so unstable(and the game) that they had a mandatory restart every morning.
I started out in Moenia,Naboo since it was deemed a Rebel friendly city. I wasnt about to start out in some Imp friendly city! Pfft! Back then you could choose what planet and city you wanted to start on. Unless some cities were overcrowded. I remember choosing Scout since I liked the vest. Heh.
I loaded in Moenia. It wasnt crowded. There were a few poeple walking around and a few entertainers already in the cantina learning how to dance. I began running around and talking to random npc's. I took a brief walk outside the city to see what it was like only to get incapped by some diseased nuna!
The world and server was so new. I remember thinking I could do whatever I wanted! I didnt feel lost without a tutorial or set of quests to carry me through the world. I got to explore and learn the hard way. I got to stare at my skill sheet of 32 professions just marveling at my options. I was like wow. Droid Engineer sounds cool. I can learn that one day when I get bored with other stuff. So cool!
I remember reading about Ranger and I was hooked immediately. I didnt know about shuttles yet so I got some delivery quests from the rebel mission terminal outside the cantina in Moenia. Highest paid mission took me to Theed and back. So, I set off on foot. I tried to find the fastest ways up hills and mountains by hitting certain angles as I ran up it. I thought thats how you got Terrain Negotiation xp! lol. I was that newb...heh. I got incapped by a baby rawl once doing that.
So, after I learned alot about xp and finally bought some skills into Marksman and mastered it. Then when I ran low on points I decided on Rifleman.
Then I had to quit for a few months. I hadnt made many friends and to play alone wasnt quite what I wanted then. So, when my buddy picked up his computer near Xmas time that year I reupped with him and my addiction was full fledged. We had fun making goofy screenshots as we dueled saying things like "Pow!" and "Thwack!" It was goofy but fun.
So, we both did some leveling. I unfortunately logged into my account one day with a holocron in my inventory. It told me to go for Master Ent to follow my path to enlightenment(Jedi). I did it and hated it. Never again would I accept a gift holocron or keep one I looted. They were the debil!
My buddy and I joined a small guild. We became friends with them since most lived in PA. We now have a yearly pilgrimage up there to visit and BS about games and have some fun.
So, in my guild I was a harvestor. With my Ranger Camo and maskscent I could hunt well. I could harvest tons with my harvesting droid and gave them to my buddy and guild leader Pikeman/Armorsmith. My wife joined and became a tailor and doctor. She buffed our guild for events and a bit for pay. She loved being in the cantina dancing and making clothes for people who might show up and need a certain something. That was great fun for her. She made friends with guys in my guild and they took her out to fight. She became an uber Tera Kasi Master/ Master Doctor. She was much better at it than I thought she might be. We had so much fun playing together.
We had one guy in our guild who was a connisseour(sp?) of cloning centers. He was a Master Rifleman/Creature Handler. I remember farming the goobers outside of Tyrena one day(near the city my guild founded
) and he logged in next to me as a corpse. I never laughed so hard. I was like... wth! How did I miss him needing some help! What happened? Apparently he had been farming there the night before and fell asleep. Then his guy got wacked. So funny!
I remember the first time I saw a Jedi. We were on Dathomir. A few of us from the guild were hunting rancors(for fun!) and he was there. Yes, in composite armor and lightsabre a blazing. We were on Teamspeak at the time. This wookie in my guild would kill anything. At the time there was a sabre tef on Jedi. Anyone could attack one if his sabre was lit. This guy was rebel so we didnt attack him, Yet our wookie companion(tMaster Doc/TK) just had to fight him. We laughed so hard as he fought the jedi and got royally pwned. Our wookie was a formidable fighter but before wookie armor he hasnt a chance. It was great.
That jedi later did some crystal inspections for me so I could sell some crystals I had looted. He was cool. Even tho one of our guild attacked him
I remember that damn wookie was on Endor with us. I notice he had wandered off and was looking at some Ewoks. Conversation went something like this:
Gannonn(wookie): Lets kill these Ewoks.
Me: Dude, leave the Ewoks alone. Their cool.
Gannonn: Aww, come on.
Me: Dude...
Gannonn: I'll kill just one....
Me:...
Gannonn: Dude! WTF! It incapped me in one hit... thats such BS! lol
Me(and rest of guild)...rofl!!!
Back in the day if it was Red to you you had to stop and think about your combat. Rangers could get alot of info about mobs when they inspected them. You could tell their strengths and weaknesses. Somethings like ewoks were highly resistant(I think) to kinetic damage but susceptible to cold damage. You had to plan your attack. So, I would carry a handful of rifles with me for various times to use them It made things fun to know I had to think about combat instead of just looking at things you do now in the NGE.
I could go on and on. I may post again here but I dont want to make this post way longer than it already is...lol.
