Thinking about trying out Co(x)

Hello Guys.

Hey fellow gamers, I'm wondering about joining this game. But I have a few questions:

1) What are the jobs that you can play?

2) Max level?

3) Community?

4) Easy to use game system?

5)How hard is this game on the scale 1-10

6) Is it fun? (you opinion please!)

    Hey...

1.) You can be, depending on the game... a variety of classes.

In city of heroes, you have Scrappers, Tankers, Defenders, Blasters, and Controllers. In City of Villains you have Brutes, Stalkers, Masterminds, Dominators and Corruptors. Also, in CoH, when you hit level 50, you unlock to new classes.

    2. ) The max level is 50.

3.) The community is okay, compared to games like WoW. It's not a very friendly one, and you'll be subject to very random and sometimes ridiculous arguements.

4.) CoH/CoV's gaming experience is nice and real easy to get into. Possibly the easiest game to get a hang of.

5.) Understanding the controls and gameplay is easy, but the game itself becomes increasingly more difficult. However, if you find it's too easy, you can always change your difficulty for missions.

6.) Personally, I really enjoyed the game. But I'm more of a fantasy guy myself. I like the armor and equipment I can get in other games as compared to skills, powers, and a different atmosphere. It's fun, easy to play and relatively nice looking (graphics). So, yeah, I'd say go for it if you're interested.

    Hope this helped yah.

    1. Same as above (both sides have very different archetypes even though they really use the same pools (ie Dom and Blaster have nearly the same, if not the same, powers).

    2. Same as above.

    3. I would disagree, but it may very by server. I only came across one person that was mean which was like... what ever your loss on XP heh. Go for a lower pop server, 1 light. I don't remeber off hand which of the servers are bigger (2 servers) I believe Freedom is one.

    4. Very much so, no real combo of power pools will gimp out your hero. Look at archetypes would fit your playing style, what you want to do most, and check out the powers.

    5. I would say a 4, maybe. It's even easier with many friends! It gets a little harder as you progress because the enemies get more and better skills. The Task Forces and Strike Force missions are harder and tend to be quite long (Synapse on an ok team takes 4-6 hours to finish if I recall correctly).

    6. For me it was alright, it's a refreshing feeling from the same ol' "older time period" fantasy (swords elves and magic). PvP has no real rewarding features excepting gloting . Recluce's Victory is really fun though. Sadly after the 300+ badges you collect there isn't much but Hamidon to do. Which is a large raid of lv50 (or in their late 40s that are SKed) and he is really hard. Hami did get easier apprently, but how much I'm not sure.

Over all it is a great game, but it sucks you are really doing the same missions in different zones. Oh and the power up-grades is a really nice twist on the game. No fancy armor or swords, just up-grade your powers for more damage, speed, recharge reduc, etc.

    Okay.  Classes first . . .

    COH:

Blaster:  ranged attacker.  all offense, no defense

Controller:  mob control, team buffs/mob debuffs.  good support class

Defender:  team buffs/mob debuffs, ranged attack.  best for support

Scrapper:  melee attack.  best melee damage, good defense.  best solo class

Tanker:  great defense, decent melee offense.  just what the name implies, a meat shield

    COV:

Brute:  great melee, good defense.  villain version of scrapper basically

Corruptor:  ranged attacker, team buff/mob debuff.  good support and damage dealer

Dominator:  mob control, ranged attack.  great support

Mastermind:  pet summoner, mob debuff.  fights with a horde of minions, great for solo or teaming (unless you get like 4 in a team :-)

Stalker:  stealther.  melee attack, defense.  great for solo, almost uselss in teams.

Okay next.  Max lvl is 50.  for CoH, once you hit 50 you unlock 2 new archetypes, the peacebringer and warshade.  both are alien shapeshifers.  they can shift into a blaster-like form, a tanker-like form, and a hybrid of the two.  No epic classes for CoV yet.  Community i've found to be pretty good, at least in my experience with the game, and i've been playing since CoH released.  Once you find the right supergroup to hang with, the fun increases dramatically.  realatively few elitists flyin around (those people that think unless you have at least one 50 you're a complete newb).  Game is, in my opinion of course, very easy to learn.  of course if you know how to play one MMO, you can pretty well play them all anyways.  Since you can actually adjust the difficulty of you missions, the game can be as easy or as hard as you want it to.  of course some classes fight better than others, but overall it's up to you how tough the game is.  Fun?  i prefer running with a SG or at least some online friends, and when i do the game is a blast.  solo is okay occasionally, but that gets old for me pretty fast.  missions can get really repetitive, especially if you're soloing.  but still, the game is alot of fun IMO, which is of course why i've been playing since the beginning.  i suggest you get a 2 week trial and check it out, i don't think you'll be disappointed.  it covers the comic book genre extremely well!  happy gaming!

    1.  Stated

    2.  Stated

    3.  On Virtue (one of the more populated servers), levels 1-10 are filled with newbs, and then it gets better (people learn their roles in a group).  As for the community as a whole, people play the game for fun.  Recently I've noticed that most of the griefers are gone...

    4.  The interface is really nice, easy to use, and makes for good game play.

    5.  If you try to solo to 50, I'd say 11.  But if you get a party (which has never been a problem for me) it's no prob (after level 10, of course).  So w/ a group, I'd say 6.

    6.  I think this game is amazing fun.  the character customization is quite incredible, with nearly unlimited combinations.  And that's not including all the costume pieces you can unlock from in-game.  I've had my account for nigh-on 30 months (based on the Veteran system), and I probably won't cancel it until either WAR or Tabula Rasa comes out.  Of course, might not even cancel it then XD.

You should at least give it a try.  The style of play is more laid back (i.e., antithesis of WoW game play), so it's not for everyone.  But if you're looking for a good game with excellent content, sweet costumes, and that super hero-ey atmosphere, definitely try it.
