I get so f*cking sick of all the WoW nerds that are whining about Warhammer online. Have they never heard of Warhammer? Warhammer was released in 89 or so, Blizzard came much later and borrowed some of Games Workshop's ideas.

Blizzard actually made their first crpg strategy game before Warhammer even though Warhammer tabletop game was out way before it.  Thats what I've gleaned from reading all these threads on the topic.  I think Warhammer will be a good game as I've said before and I like WoW.

Yes but their first Strategy game was supposed to be based on Warhammer, but games workshop said no.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Games Workshop released Warhammer miniatures around 1989 or so, atleast. Don't know of any game before that, but after what I read, Warhammer was first  tho, I'm not sure. Used to play WoW before, taking a break from mmorpg before Age of Conan :)

Looked it up, Warhammer has been around since about 1983, Blizzard was founded in 1991. Personally, I like Warhammer more.

I really don't know why I keep them, they aren't worth anything...I collect some of the cooler looking toys out there (stuff from McFarlane tends to bring out my inner child)  But I don't have any other reason to really keep these two toys other than that they are classics.

Stuff like this makes me go ZOMG though..he's twelve inches tall!!  I already have a 12 inch predator without a mask, but dangit, I want one with a mask too!!

This thread is going horribly astray...I know it is going to lead to someone admitting they still have a New Kids On The Block Poster up...I see bad things coming from this.

The warhammer background is much cooler than the WoW back drop, just seems to be more involved...

It is more complex, it's not a matter of available content, it's about developer talent in my opinion.  Personally I have no interest in Warhammer online, I'm completely sick of the swords and sorcery style of MMO's and am REALLY hoping that Pirates of the Burning sea takes off (as well as the 40k MMO in development but that's a LONG way off.

Yeah I'm tired of Wizards and Dwarfs and Elves myself...

  • Look, it's pretty much a given that most fantasy games/stories borrow from previous ones. Most of them can trace alot of roots back to Tolkien, who in turn traces roots back to Norse mythology (and probably some Celtic stuff too). You can't get away from it, it just is and there's nothing wrong with it.

So, of course Tolkien had orcs first. Then, Warhammer took the orc idea and went their own wild direction with it. If you look at Warcraft before WC3, the orcs were mostly similar to Warhammer orcs (the orc scout who was sent through the portal first could barely write a sentance and complained his head hurt from writing to much). With WC3, they took the orc concept in a completely new direction. They're still green, still have tusks, still fight happy, but are all very different.

That said, I like Warhammer orcs. Waaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!!

I fully admit to being a Warhammer nerd. I had several armies back in the day. If I could find a place to play near me, I might put together a new army and start playing again.

Got an interesting email from a friend who still does tabletop warhammer. I had written to him earlier to alert him to the EU beta sign up and got this little titbit in reply.

I was talking to a mate I visited at the weekend and he now works as a manager in the 'ivory tower' as they call it at GW [Games Workshop] head office regarding Warhammer Online and it has come about because some guy went to the big man and said "hey boss I play a game called Everquest and have just got into another called WOW and our IP would make a great addition to the MMORPG world", he had no idea what he was going on about so the guy showed him and he sadi "do it" hehehe

    ...it looks cool though!

They are also making a 40K (the future version of warhammer) online as we speak mate!

Also I notice the return of Gameloading and Draenor on the same day, was the banstick waved over you guys for the past week?

I dunno, mine was a week long and I got it lifted when I sent an email to community@mmorpg.com ...I could have gotten it lifted earlier but I didn't care to write an email prior to yesterday.
