Depends how often you play and how seriously.

Power levelling for 6 hours a day... maybe a week or two.

If you're more casual, then it might take you up to a month or more.

Finally, if you're slack like me, then you'll spend six months wandering about before you get  to 20.

    Lol

Depends on which campaign you purchase, and whether you roll a PvP or PvE character.

Any PvP character you create starts at level 20, so that takes no time at all.

For PvE characters, Prophecies has about the slowest leveling curve of the three. Been awhile since I've leveled up my Prophecies characters, but you're probably looking at about a week to 10 days of casual play.

Factions is super-fast: I've leveled my Factions characters from newb to 20 in less than a weekend of decent play.

Figure about 3 or 4 days of decent play to get to 20 in Nightfall.

But here's the thing: 20 doesn't mean much in this game. It's not about the level, but the skills. Those will take significantly longer to acquire.

Yeah, in Factions you are basically lvl 16+ when you leave the Noob/Tutorial Isle.

I usually was 18/19 when I left, but that was because I completed each and every quest.

And on the Main Continent, you'll directly meet lvl 20 Mobs.

Never played Nightfall, but when I compare Factions and Prophecies...Prophecies was one hell of boring compared to factions.

Aye as Serling says, a week or so in prophecies, 6 hours in Factions and about 12 hours in Nightfall

However, Guild Wars IS NOT ABOUT LEVELING! nor is it an MMO, so if you do get it, go into it to see what you find, notthinking anything specific about it

A level is an indication as to how powerful a player or NPC is. In Guild Wars all role playing characters are started at Level 1. Through the acquisition of a predetermined amount of experience points, a player will gain a level. Level 20 is the maximum level that can be achieved. After Level 20 players receive 1 Skill Point for every level cycle they complete, which can be used to learn new skills. PvP characters are Level 20 by default. NPC characters are not restricted to a maximum cap level. They range anywhere from 0 to 31 (and from 20 to 33 in hard mode).

A character's or NPC's Damage output is directly linked to the level they are currently at.

Hope that helps too and theres a few links in there to the official Guild wars wiki page too, on there you can read up on the professions and their roles and skill types and check out the different chapters to see which you want to try first and also armour and weapon artwork, so, if you like the shiney's (and we all do), then you can give yourself a goal to earn, find or buy something

Also remember aswell that if you buy all the chapters, add the activation keys to the same account, so many people in the past have accidentally made a second account, even those in my own guild (one of my officers did, oh did I laugh, but his son now plays on that account)

if you need anymore help, just shout, and if you get the game, holla me in game, my name is Tyr Dominator

I'd like to add that you also have to factor in unlocking certain elite skills with the leveling process. For example, I zoomed to 20 with my necromancer in the Factions campaign but I was not a very effective minion master until I captured the "flesh golem" skill in a rather difficult mission.  Elite skills are not do or die but they're often the lynchpin of many good builds. If you play the original Prophecies campaign, you'll find yourself at level 20 before you get a chance to unlock the best elite powers.

The good news is leveling is ridiculously easy compared to a lot of games, and you'll be able to afford great equipment by the time you hit 20.

Lone...is it really necessary to bring up Wiki and links to wiki in every post you place?  Seriously, we get it...just put a link in your signature.  LOL, how much stock do you own in it?

It not a race to 20 as it is in other games, it is definately about the journey to get their and once you are there, realising, "Damn...I am not even close to the end."  Have fun doing the early quests and getting a feel for the game.  It look me a week of casual play to level my first character upto 20 two years ago.

There is a fine line between being helpful and just advertising wiki...as wiki great as it is, it does not have all the answers.  And the whole point about putting it in your signature is so you dont have to type in out or cut in paste.  I mean the whole orange highlighted area has nothing to do with his question.  It is just a bunch of filler for your simple 2 sentence answer, which is all he was looking for.

If you have never played the game before, do not be in a rush to get to max level, the game is still going to be there.  There are so many side quests that take to off the beaten path so to speak that if you just look to power level then you will miss out on them and the experience/gold/skill points/possibly skills they have to offer.  I know people that rushed out of pre-sear in Prophecies and were absolutely lost...Once you play though to level 20 once though, it is do whatever it is that gets you to where you want to be for your other slots.

Prophecies (the original): took me 2 weeks to get to end game. Can't remember how long it took to get to 20, but I think it was 2 days. I was new and was still figuring things out.

Factions: one full weekend and the following Monday evening of heavy play to reach end game. It took around 8 hours or so to get to 20.

Nightfall: around 10-12 hours to 20. In total 1,5 weeks to get to end game.

Mind you, the game does not end at level 20. Most of the content is for level 20s. Also, I rushed through the game. I needed unlocks and specific gear for PvP, so I had little patience for the PvE part.

Am I the only one who gets pissed off when someone thinks of being helpful as having a financial agenda? I guess altruism is not a familiar idea among kids. Everything has to be about money or personal gain. WTF?

Anyway, to answer OPs question, around the time you get to Crystal Desert, you will have reached level 20 in Prophecies, assuming you go through all missions (and bonuses) and quests, which I think is the best way to level up.

Think of getting to level 20 more as an initiation rather than the bulk of the game itself, because it isn't. Regardless of your play style (casual or hardcore, PvE or PvP), there's lots to do after level 20.

Ahh, you miss one vital point though...

PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND NEED TO BE TOLD THINGS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!

And yes, if it was that simple, these threads wouldn't even be here...  if it was that simple, he would have picked up guild wars on the shelf, gone to the guild wars website, seen the wiki link and read through wiki...  but by ANets own research, only a small portion (less than a quarter) of the game populace even looks at the damn website, let alone the ****ing wiki!

So yes, reposting it over and over and over again will keep bloody happening until the human race becomes intelligent as a whole and not on a single person level...   and on that note, i walk away from you and i won't help or share my knowledge with any of you again

Lone, let us make amends and unite.  Together we can help lead the people from the shadows of the valley of the Charr....errrm death. People have a hard to pulling subjective answers out of critical sources, which is a reason why people come to forums.  Why would you let one poster who disagrees with your methodoly detract you from imparting your wisdom on the masses?

I wish everyone would realize that this entire thread was an attempt at a flame/trolling.  Look at the OP, 1 post total and no response back to the helpful answers given, while going after a characteristic of the game that turns some MMO players off.  And he has turned brother against brother.

I hope the OP takes the point if he really was looking for help that he/she will ultimately decide how long it will take to get to level 20.  He gave zero evidence about his play style that would allow us to even intimate how long it would take  them.

Just for fun, I bought another character slot this morning on my main account and rolled a Prophechies monk. After 3 hours of play, he's at level 7 and still in Pre-Searing (I'm leaving him there for the dye event). Levelling will happen faster post-searing, but I probably won't keep him. Just wanted to play in Pre-searing again. :)

LMAO...I wonder how many people are going to be in pre-sear with us...It is going to be like the original release all over.

I started a elmo last night level 4 before I went to bed...those elementals are not going to like firestorm on their heads this whole weekend.  Hope you sold your dyes early as prices are going to plummet this weekend and probably for the next week...

VERY, VERY FAST. If level is what matters to you, stay away from this game.
