Has any1 else in the EU or UK been able to run the game with the update yet because all I am getting at the update part of the game initialisation is error - 404 not found

The maintenance is scheduled until 14:00 GMT+1 - that means 13:00 GMT.

Not quite. Summertime has been taken into account. The servers will officially open in the UK at 14.00 (BST). That's in about 5 minutes. Wouldn't be surprised if it takes longer though.

Updater, etc just started working. No idea if the servers are online yet.

What is the size of the update ?
