In Only Ten Days More than 200,000 Aspiring Troops Sign Up for the Beta Test of EA's Highly-Anticipated MMO

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS), the world’s leading interactive entertainment company, today announced that more than 200,000 players have signed up for the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR) closed beta test.

The Warhammer Online Beta Center opened simultaneously in North America and Europe on May 30th, and the 200,000 registration mark was surpassed over the weekend, less than ten days after launch. This makes the beta test of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning one of the most rapidly growing beta tests in the history of the MMORPG category. The Beta Center is currently open and accepting applications at https://betacenter.eamythic.com/signup.php.

*whistles* whoosh that is big numbers...funny how probably only 15% (completely speculation to just to clarify) of us will get in first round.   But then that is the nature of beta.   Good luck to everyone! *super double crosses every finger on her hand* I want in!

Minimizes the chance of getting in, but i'm happy for Mythic, they've done a magnificent job so far. And good luck to every one :D

Kinda makes me feel a little better knowing i'm a veteran newsletter subscriber after hearing those numbers

    Folks,

Just to clarify a few things:

    1) Those that signed up for the newsletter, prior to this issue, are considered preferred candidates for the beta pool. So, if you've already signed up, no worries, your group is at the top of the list for admissions into the beta.

    2) A % of preferred beta candidates (we are obviously not letting everyone into the beta right away) will get into the beta way before the individuals/groups that were given their beta slot randomly (or by showing up) or by attending things like Gamesday. And when I mean way before, I mean months, not weeks.

    3) As people come and go from the beta new people will be pulled from the preferred list into the game on a ongoing basis.

    4) As we go "wide" with our beta and once again need more people, the names will be pulled from the preferred candidate list.

    5) If we decide to go really wide open with the beta, we'll look to the preferred candidates first and everyone else second.

So, if you're concerned about the giveaways don't be, being an early newsletter subscriber is still your best chance to get into the beta, especially in the earliest stages.

I hope this clears things up.

Me too. But I'm positive that this game will contain many other features than wow, so it not just a copy.  Looking forward and hoping for the beta invite

DAMNIT. I couldn't even sign up with my regular e-mail because it will NOT accept "no-reply" e-mail addresses. Mythic told me thats why I couldn't finish registration. So my chances are LESS cause I had to sign up with a secondary e-mail that wasn't signed up for the newsletter?! That just SUCKS. I wish their were some way to get credit to my secondary e-mail...UGH.

not to be mean, but WOOT...I signed up for the newsletter like the 1st or 2nd day they started having them :P...I was skimming for Imperator when the information for WAR came up...

I do not think it matters when you signed up for the news letter, just that you signed up.  Things like this give more credit to the term WoW Killer that keeps being thrown around with this game.

If WAR corrects the Downfalls that are currently plagueing WoW then WAR will EASILY become the BIG Cheese of the Fantasy RPG MMOs

Heh, you misunderstand my statement...I am simply stating that I signed up for the newsletter as soon as it was there, not that it gives me any primacy over other newsletter subscribers,

The only thing that will make or break this game is the combat system imo; although I know many people will just adapt to it, but if there is nothing special in combat, or nothing to make you feel the difference between playing a rogue, warrior, sorc.

Hmm I did not get on the vetran newsletter list... doh!
