Problem with Subscription

TheBishopTheBishop Member Posts: 31
Hello Everybody, well I purchased the game yesterday and tried to install and setup today.  The game installed fine and already had an account from Planetside (reserves).  Well the browser told me to subscribe and so I did.  It went directly to the forum name and then to the account key.  Once I put in the account key, it has asked me subscription method.  This is where I am confused, since this is an  Everquest 2 Retail product, shouldn't the account key have the free 30 days included within the product?  I don't understand why it is not working or do I need to use the key again in game card to get the 30 days.  No, I do not have any of the expansion packs because I only wanted to try this game for 30 days since this game was only 2.99 at the store.  Please if anyone could answer this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Wow you found a copy of the origina game for 3 bucks? Woosh luck i suppose..but yes you still get 30 days.   I"m not sure what your MMO past is but usually you create an account or add the product to your account, select the payment method then you get 30 days.  They still want your payment method so when the trial is up the account goes active.  All game trials do this even the free 10 day download trials of other games ask for a payment method.   Its basically your responsibility on day 29 to cancel the account if you don't want to continue.

you must subscribe to the game for at least one month...

before you get the 30 days, i mean you can cancel straight afterwards, so you only play for the 30 days before you're charged.

MMOs have always worked like this, and always will... you must use your credit card/game card (in some cases) and subscribe before you're given access to your 30 days free

Thank you for the responses, my past history with other Massive Online games are with World of Warcraft (that i have purchased).  Any other game I have tried has either been free or in the beta.  What I don't understand is why do I have to give them either my credit card or game card to get the 30 days, to me it seems like false advertisement in the sense that you have to give information or more money (game card) just to get them.  I usually don't like using a credit card because I never trust these companies and I shouldn't have to get the game card just so I could get to play the game.  It sounds to me that I have no choice but at least I only paid 3 dollars for the game so I am not too upset or anything, I just wish I could try the game.

SOE likes to keep your credit card information handy in case they get a little short on cash......

Do you know why they did this in the first place?  I mean how much of a difference does it make whether I put in money now or in the near future?  Correct me if I am wrong but the only thing I can see is as a way to milk a little extra money at start off.   Even though I haven't paid the full amount of the game but I would just figure that a person who has purchased the game should have a right to play the 30 days without being forced to give up a credit card to get those "free" days.  I mean like a previous posters have said, a person can cancel the subscription right before first payment anyway.

They do that so they can automatically start your subscription at the end of the 30 days they don't charge you until the 31st day.

Well I may still play this game since I have read that it has improved over time.  I guess I didn't notice the payment method for World of Warcraft because I received it for Christmas with a game card.  I noticed in that FAQ thread, that an expansion has the previous expansions but I was wondering if any of the expansions are free to download or a must purchase kind?  Also I was wondering do they effect the whole game or just a part of the game, like middle or end.

Echo's of Faydwar has all the previous expansions and the original game (boxed version only comes with all the expansions for i think 10 dollars more than the digital download version, does not come with the adventure packs) you won't find it for 3 dollars though.

By not having the expansion there's zones you can't start in or go too, and atleast one race you can't play, gear you can't get and various other things.  It shouldn't really overly affect your game play if you are planning on starting in Freeport or Qeynos until higher levels or if you start trying to buy things off the auction system.

There are no free expansions, there is free content updates that you may or may not have access too because they might require EoF (not sure how the new starting dark elf area works).

All the other expansions / adventure packs you must pay for.

You do NOT have to pay for a month before you get the free time.   You subscribe to the game, the first month is FREE then you get updated to a paid subscription according to how your account was set up.
