Balance

WAR seems extrememly interesting and possibly one fo the rare games that can hold my attention beyond 4-6 months.... My biggest concern with the game is simply how will they balance the realms? Say I decide to play on the Empire side to be a Witch Hunter... What fun is it if we constantly get our behinds handed to us over and over again because of either skill or overwhelming numbers on the Chaos side? Now I'm sure it would be great fun for all the folks on Chaos, because everyone likes to win, but if your on the losing end.... Your kind of going to be forced to switch to either the other side or go play a High Elf or something(and in the process ruining erasing whatever progress you made as a Witch Hunter).

Also, one other unrelated question, but say I move up to Tier 3, can you go backwards and fight in Tier 1(which in essence would be really easy to destory a bunch of people) If the answer to this is yes, thats a terrible idea.

You can go back to T1 but u cant kill the noobies there. The enemy player can only be a certain amount of lvls below u for u to be able to attack him. That's what i heard.

So you could go back and finish any PvE content that you didn't do the first time through? THat would make sense, but being able to participate in the PvP would be extremely unfair.... What about the balance of the realms though?

    1. I personally never heard anything about world / open RvR (I must be under a rock then huh). They do have RvR areas with objectives, killing, and WAAAAGH!! Anyway they have what's called "Dogs of War" they are used to help even the numbers in a battle (ie. it's 6v10, the side with 6 will gain 4 DoW (NPC "bots" that will help fight). Keep in mind the DoW are NOT humans, so more then likely it will not win the battle for you. The DoW will just even up the teams in terms of numbers not skill. You don't have to worry too much about unbalanced factions, both sides have really cool classes and areas to play.

DeTiering I don't know about. I have not read or watched anything concerning it. I'm sure more info will be released during / before beta goes down.

Well lets say you're a Witch Hunter and you keep losing in PvP because chaos has overwhelming numbers. One solution would be to go over to the Dwarf or High Elf areas, with your witch hunter, and fight over there.

As far as balance because of a specific skill or something, I'm hoping that EA Mythic has learned the ways to balance these things out between opposing realms due to their work on DAoC, which I'm told has one of the best pvp systems around.

I can almost gaurentee you, that the game won't be balanced right away. Mythic has already made Chosen a REALLY popular class, and MANY players will swarm to it. And just like everyone else, you are worried about balance of the sides. If there are enough players that CARE about balanced PvP, then they will take the liberty and switch to the losing side, and have their skill help that side out. I know that is what I would do, and I have played with many players who do the same thing, reguardless of the game it is.

Thats allowed eh? I was under the impression that the races would be tied to their starting areas... If I'm wrong thats super :)

You can go to your allies battlefield of course, and you should check the RvR podcast, there aren't only instance RvR.

I did check the podcast... If your referring to the person who stated there would be NPC's added in to ensure one side didn't outnumber the other, that was not me. Although I did see that in the RvR podcast. That seemed to be a solution on in the instanced portions of RvR not the open areas(which also count towards winning a realm)

Imo WAR is going to be alot harder for the underdog side in open pvp. Most of the elements that made DAoC so good for the underdog realm have been removed from war.The underpopulated realms best bet would be to stay in instances and make the enemy zerg wait in line to fight. That would force them to reroll thier faction on another server.

The funny thing about WAR is that the game will balance it for you where it matters the most

There you go, one of them explains the instanced battles, which matter the most in WAR,
these battles are always balanced out to even the score of the enemy has more players.

So it should be fine actually.

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

I dont think balance will be a problem at all, what i think will happen is that for example:

Dwarfes are wining the Greenskins constantly pushing them back to their capital.

Chaos are wining the Empire pushing them back to their capital.

What i think will happen is that Dwarfes and Chaos will start to travel to their «friends» capital to try to balance the situation and this could get sorta using a lot of strategy since there are still the elves.

The only thing that i care about is the class balance.

     Just my opinion.
