The point is a simple one, people that are spraying the SOE hate all over the boards NEED to get a grip. SWG was a GAME, and yes I understand they screwed up, I was a LONG time SWG player. But to spend all this energy bashing them daily (in posts that a lot of the times have nothing to do with it, so you can't get away from it) and then boycott them while they carry on spending massive amounts of money with companies that do things 10000x of times worse is ridiculous. I would never take away some ones right to speak with their wallets, but the simple fact is. WE don't need to hear about it from the same people over and over again whenever there is a thread that has something to do with SOE.You clicked the post, bubba. Just look at the title of this one. Sony has had MANY dubious businesses pointed out in the last year... the rootkit debacle, the exploding laptops, the PS3 mess and especially SWG.
Don't paint the company as the second coming. They're guilty of every criticism. The only way a company could be "10000x of times worse" as you put it would be to invade Poland as the 4th reich.
And as long as I breathe, I will boycott them and tell others to. It's my right as a consumer.
If you can't be bothered to read the posts then there really isn't much I can do. 4 times this week I've opened a thread I was interested in reading that started as one thing and ended up as a SOE bash because there are a number of you that can't let it go. The more I see stuff like this, the more I'm inclined to agree with some of the psychological reports I've read on MMO players. So, no I didn't click the posts bud. I'm not an SOE fan, in fact I was burnt a lot worse than some with SWG and around a LOT longer than a lot of the so called "veterans" that moan day in and day out here. Sony isn't the 2nd coming and I've not once said that in any of my posts, but while you all cry split milk over a GAME (A GAME, you know, a pass time? A little fun? Nothing that really matters in the world) companies such as Microsoft get away with practical business murder and that's ignored. My point again, it's comedy gold that people practically wet themselves over SOE and yet continue to pump money into companies that screw you all over 1000x worse. They just do a better job of hiding it from you. These boards have slowly become home to the worst informed posters on the internet and that's saying something, I'll say it again. 90% of the SOE haters have zero clue as to what they are talking about. Posters like that utterly destroy any valid point that people have to make on SOE and how they do business.

How does joining together in dislike for SOE and/or Sony have any effect whatsoever on how we feel about other companies? The title of the freaking post is " for SWG/SOE vets that extend feelings to other SONY products". And how does this affect you? You're annoyed by it? What concern is that of anyone else's? I'm fully aware of how other companies practice shady business. Not everything they do, and not every way it affects me, but I'm not that ignorant to think all companies are golden EXCEPT Sony. And I doubt anyone else is, either. But if we choose to boycott Sony, and band together at the same time, we are doing it based on our OWN feelings, not yours. Your annoyance means nothing if something someone says here actually reaches someone else who wasn't aware of what Sony has done and is willing to join the boycott. If Sony's too big to be impacted in any small way by what we're doing, then who cares? And the DOJ has been all over MS for years, and made tiny dents and that's about it. But the title of the post had nothing to do with MS, nor does SWG except as a platform to run the client on.

SOE retroactively raise the monthly fee for playing EQ and even charged people with inactive accounts, including mine.
Sony Music put malware (a rootkit) on their music CDs to prevent people from listening them with anything but their software. (This virus created numerous problems and was practically unremovable)
Their attempt at Beta cassette monopoly was pure evil. Everyone who bought a beta player got screwed.
I blame them entirely for the Vanguard ordeal... this game should simply have been pushed back.
Sony was a founding member of the "DVD Forum" in 1995 but when they say HD DVD coming along they decided to step outside of the already present consortium and start their own thing with Blu-Ray.... this is nothing more than a round 2 attempt at controlling the media formats. HD DVD isn't Microsoft's... it's the creation of the industry's consortium.
These are 6 pretty good reason to dislike the brand name "Sony".
The problem most people have with Sony goes much deeper than just SWG and if you actually knew anything about the business you would understand that. For starters you might try actually reading some of the things people post instead of just flaming everyone and trolling.

Sony is one of the most Arrogant, elitest companies i have ever had my displeasure of dealing with. It is not just because of SWG that i choose to stay away from their overpriced, craptasticly made products. I have never. ever,eververevereverever seen sony appologize for one fucking mistake they have ever made (at least publicly), in regards to their products.
I dont care if your getting fucking tired of these "Fuck SOE" posts. Fuck you if you dont want to listen to them its my right as a consumer to voice my opinion. To anyone who dosent want to hear it. Fuck you too.

I have ZERO love for SOE but what you all fail to understand is, NO one cares. It was 2 years ago, people who play MMOs and post here for the most part have made up their minds about SOE one way or another and if they choose not to buy Sony products good for them it's what they should do. But what you say makes no difference. The people that don't play MMOs will carry on buying Sony batteries when they need them and that's all they see on the shelf, what you say about SWG has ZERO effect on them.
The SOE hate posts serve nothing, and frankly I'm sick of opening a thread talking about a Vanguard patch just to see how the game is doing and hearing about how SOE broke SWG, this thread aside.
You're mad and have every right to stop buying from Sony, but WE GET IT. I don't even dare go to the 'Agency' forum for information on the game.I reached that stage about a month ago.
See, this is what annoys me. Folks who think that our "only" problem with $OE is the ill-advised NGE. It's really a minor stanza in the litany of horror that the company has managed to pump out since the "dawn" of the MMO era.
I remember Verrant. I remember the misery. I remember the nightmare of customer disservice that started nigh unto a decade ago. Suggesting that the NGE is at the core of our ire is like suggesting that Babi Yar was the central problem we all have with the horrors perpetrated by the Third Reich during World War II. Heck, most of you will have to go hunt down the Wiki entry just to find out what Babi Yar was.
The point here is that, in twenty years or so, no one's is going to remember the NGE. But we'll still be loathing Sony and $OE for their autocratic if not downright fascist behavior and incredibly poor business sense. Or would you tell someone with a numbered tattoo on their arm to "just get over it already?" Perhaps you should try that line on the American internment camp survivors from WWII?
Comparing $OE's behavior to WWII isn't all that far fetched a metaphor. Business is war and sometimes atrocities are committed. Sometimes, those acts are so heinous as to reverberate years later. If you aren't pissed off about their ongoing pogrom against customers, then you haven't been paying attention...or are deliberately turning a blind eye to their behavior.
In fact, the more I consider the metaphor the more it applies. We spent the early years of the war unconcerned by the Lebensraum-like attitude at $OE, then we tried appeasement and treaties with them, only to be invaded once more. We believed $OE when they said "we won't do it again" after the Anchluss that was the CU. Like the Allies, we were taken in by their smooth talking because we didn't want conflict. But like the Allies in World War II, we've learned we can't trust $OE to keep their word.
Vanguard was like the gaming community's Pearl Harbor. It shocked and horrified us into action like never before. Fortunately, the consumers had finally had enough and launched their own Operation Overlord. The death of Sigil at 105 days of live play was our V-E day. True, Brad McQuaid is still running around the $OE bunker, but I believe (metaphorically at least) he's already shot himself in the head.
$OE is collapsing under its own mismanagement and lack of resources. Soon you'll find $OE employees hiding out in Argentina, making games for unsophisticated markets, and ruling over their little tin-pot dictatorships without any real relevance to the world at large.
One can only hope.
