Have they brought back or plan to bring back group XP

I first started playing in CU.  I enjoyed the group XP because it allowed for progression without being locked into doing quests.  Plus it had great social aspects.  I played the NGE and first did a trader which is a solo level grind, but it was fun.  I then started building a combat medic alt.  I stopped after a while because the Legacy Quests are boring (my opinion).  I spent much of my time in space doing the squadrons.  Once they were done it was back to the LQ and I just did not have fun and left the game.

Have they or are they bringing back group XP?

I realize some may not like it because it could allow for a fast leveling.  But if they even gave a low bonus with it I would come back to this game.

    Maybe in Chapter 7..

    but for that you'll have to wait another month or 2

    Keep in mind the XP bonus in the CU was actually a bug from a formula that was accidently reversed. They did try to fix it...but I'm sure anyone playing during the time will remember the uproar that resulted ;) The way XP works in the NGE is the way it was also meant to work in the CU. However they have made some mention about increasing the XP rate, but don't expect it to be anything like the CU.

    Hey Obraik,

    Do you have a resource explaining how group XP worked back in CU.  I was a new player and didn't know it wasn't working as intended.  All I remember is that the more people there were in a group, the higher amount of XP each member got versus solo play.  If you have any idea of how they plan to implement it in the NGE please share.

    The bug was that it was meant to decrease the XP with more people in the group, except it was bugged and did the reverse and increased the XP in a group. I'd show you some old discussions about it, but with the forum upgrade they were lost in the transition.

    No idea on the details of what they're going to change with XP rates now, just that they've been talking about it and said it wouldn't happen before chapter 7.

    I blamed this bug for all the lag on Dantooine.

    CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

    They are adding group exp to the game in chapter 7

    Well, no matter what people think. There is a bonus for grouping.  Now, many people think that there is not a bonus for grouping. But, here is how it works:


    Group Size % of XP per kill Total XP Granted per kill*
    1 100 1000
    2 86 1720
    3 71 2130
    4 63 2520
    5 57 2850
    6 54 3240
    7 51 3570
    8 49 3920

    So, using a baseline of 1k XP for a kill, a single kill can give out a total of 3920 XP points to a group of 8.  If there was no bonus the total would remain 1k XP.  Seems like a pretty good bonus to me. 

    The problem is that the XP received is based on what the highest level player would receive. This prohibits high level players from helping lower level ones.  So, the group of CL 50's go up against something that would normally give them 1k XP but, since the 1 CL90 guildy tagged along to help out some, the CL 50's only receive 1 XP per kill. This is the problem.
