Serverside detection

Has anyone here ever seen these "bots" or is it just me?

I ran into a bot playing wow today. I have seen them before diffrent ones or possibly the same one thats been upgraded over time.

Was just going out to feralas to tame a pet and noticed someone out there thought they were a regular player. Noticed they didnt seam to be using tracking and it was a hunter but that could just be anyone. It was going back and forth right over the path that the rare spawn I wanted to tame was. Sent them a tell to let them know I was only there to find that rare beast and then I would be gone but no response. Thats when I started to suspect something.

Now I know what most of you are thinking aw poor baby wittle hunter couldnt get the pet he wanted right away. But the thing I asked myself is "if I a player can see this is a bot clearly then surely a gm can find them". I dont really care about bots and I could of just grinded there and waited for the rare spawn and hope the bot didnt find it first but I saw a article online about glider and thought they might want to know.

So I opened a ticket and said something like "this player is a automation". The response was very fast and the gm was happy to inform me they have a team working on this. I thought to myself well where are they now? The gm then had me change my name because I had a ASCII letter in it. After I logged back in I asked them simply if that player there was infact a automation? They reply I dont know and I have to tell someone else who will take action.

But really am I supposed to believe that the people that run server side software dont know when a client is using a modification or a automation?

I dont want to ruin the botters time by getting them suspended I just think blizzard should either make automation ok for all to use without threat of ban or find away to automaticly detect it and prevent them from playing with automations.

Has anyone here ever seen these "bots" or is it just me?

I've seen them, reported the same one on numerous occasions, only to find them at it again weeks later.

Blizz seems to like mass bannings, rather than taking care of each problem as it arises.

there is no science behind this... why isnt one bot banned straight after being reported?

well farming companies usually work with 10-25 accounts, banning one specific account will just make them change their way of acting so they dont get banned again, when a bot is reported the account is "flagged" for investigation and will end up leading to other accounts and then to a mass ban.

Well, it must be confirmed it is a bot before it is banned. I have had numerous GMs send me tells asking if I were there, because people say I play like a chinese gold farmer.

I farmed gold like a hellion for my Epic Flying mount. It took me 2 weeks to get the 6k I needed to get the thing. That is 800g for Flight Training, 5000g for Epic Training, and 200g for the Swift Purple Griff mount itself.

During the time I was farming, I got accused of being a "bot", and called "Chinese Gold Farmer" at LEAST once a day. Some days, when I was going 12 hours nonstop, I got accused many many times.

Now what you saw was likely a glider or a WoWbot that was stuck. However it could have also been someone that was bored, semi retarded, or extremely RL drunk, using the simple single pane combat/chat log, and not checking for incoming tells. The bottom line is, an investigation must be made before a banning happens. Otherwise alot of legitimate people would get kicked just for playing a bit on the erratic side, or for being a motivated farmer.

Here are a few things I noticed that almost clearly gave them away as a bot...

-Did small circles as if they were blind and could only find targets by targeting.

    -Automaticly declined duels.

-Performed the exact same attacks and abilities on every kill.

-If I tagged a monster just before they did they would finish the kill and act like nothing happened.

-Ran the same path back and forth.

    -Not response in chat.

It was very obvious it was a bot. Even the most retarded person could figure it out.

I have seen diffrent bots over the years and it's obvious that they are allowing players to use them ingame.

If you acctually play the game your wasting your time because you could of used a bot to level.

And while they are allowing botters they also lume this cloud of ban over our heads to sucker some people into actually leveling there character legitly. I know a little something about bot detection in fps games and its a simple scan and ban if they have files that are known bot files on there pc anywhere at all they will be banned. But for some reason the people behind wow are letting them in and won't even directly aproach them they have to notifiy someone else who will then take action. Like I'm going to believe that bs.

So if your playing hard to find that rare item or gain that next level most other players are cheating by using automations and you never noticed because they act almost just like a real player.

    *shrug*

The botters pay the same per month as I did. I worked, I got my Epic flying mount and my Arena set... I did KZ and got a healing gear set...

The botters can do as they like, it never effected me.

I don't understand what the big deal is... work and get what you want... if you wanna report em when you see em, report em and forget it... but they are paying the same per month as you are.

Main thing to bear in mind though... botting will never get really GOOD gear or develop real skill. So the bots will always have crappy AH gear at very VERY best, and lack the skill in most cases to use what they do have.

    I just ignored em.

Words of wisdom here.  Bots were around when I first played WOW back in Nov 2004, and they are still with us today.... they haven't destroyed the game so I agree, just report them and let Blizzard deal with them. But even when they are finally banned, you can bet another will be in that same spot in a matter of hours.....

You guys my point is that they are allowing them to play with bots and then saying you will be banned if you play with one.

I don't care how much a person bots however...

They should either auto ban people using bots with a scan / ban detection or allow the use of bots for everyone.

Otherwise they are only allowing them to play to get there money and get in the way of real players. Good for them and bad for me. No it doesnt ruin the game in anyway but it does make it a little more pointless.
