Well I didn't think this was going to happen this fast, but I am bored now. I have 2 characters so far, Level 50 Human Guardian and a Level 42 Human Burglar and I am bored to death.
The new content update is a joke. We have raiding Helegrod three times so far and have killed every boss twice (except the dragon Thorog). We have cleaned out Barad Guleran (new instance) and killed every boss in that area. Alot of us a rank 4 in PvMP and it's boring as hell now.
There just isn't enough content for higher levels in this game. So what now you ask? Adios Turbine. We're moving on.
Comments
Yea it's not exactly hard to level in this game. I play about 5 hours every night, and some on the weekends since release. I reached level 50 on my Guardian about 2 weeks ago, and then made an alt and leveled him to 42 since yesterday.
There's just not enough to do anymore. A serious lack of content.
I have quit other games before because with the amount of time I play, I had no prayer of ever really maxing out a character.
I think their target audience was more for casual players rather than raiders and hardcore levelers. Saying there is a lack of end-game content is very fair though, fortunately I dont personally have to worry about that for quite some time though.
Its too bad that Vanguard didnt turn out as it was intended as it sounds like that game may have been more fitting to your playstyle, but, yeah...that didnt end up so well really.
Maybe give EQII a shot if you have not been there already?
Yea, but I'm not sure if I would really call myself hardcore or not. I do play every night and maybe a good 6-8 hours on the weekends. LOTRO was fun during the trip from 1-50 and I was pretty excited about the content update, but after a few days of doing the Helegrod raids and the new instance of Barad Guleran, it just has become dull now.
There's only so many Helegrod raids you can do until you get blue in the face. Once you complete Barad Guleran there really isn't a reason to go back. And the pvp is ok but nothing great and it just gets boring after a while.
I just don't know.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
I have to agree. There was some pretty poor planning for end game content.
I will probably be going back to EQ2, after 3 years, there are still three bosses/instances there I have not completed.
I miss DAoC
5 hours a night sheesh, no wonder your bored!
I played in beta, then the early pre-order period and still only have an 18 Guardian
Way to hang in there OP. You lasted longer then me LOL!
No PVP, No mage class, No thx.
Actually it seems to have had almost no effect, in fact it might be positive as I am seeing some new player refugees from LOTRO there.
I am bored as well. Mostly because its been there seen that for me in LOTRO.
The game is put together well. But its just to generic for me.
I hate EQ2 like death itself. LOTRO didn't get there, it just left me feeling like..."Meh. I can't be bothered."
Bite me, Turbine.
Less than 300 hours playtime and then giving up because of lack of contents, that's not hardcore - not even close...
If that seems hardcore for some of you, you really don't expect much from a MMORPG.
I'm sure it will not be understood what I mean but I'm gladly proven wrong.

His take on the game is what rendered him bored, but if he had a different outlook he'd notice all the enjoyable, innovative features? Don't blame anyone but himself? Nonsense, blame the company that made a shallow and unimaginative rehash of a tired cliche of a game. Dress it up however you feel the need to but the truth is people know what they like.
Your sentiment seems to boil down to 'You played too often and progressed too fast in a game that isn't really prepared to support any interest beyond fleeting & casual.'' Or more simply "Don't bend it too hard or it'll break''.
I'm sorry, but the absurdity of your analysis "Don't blame anyone but yourself" is epic.

Those who want to complain will find a million reasons everywhere and any time.
Those who DO look into the details around them (be it anything), will find pleasure and happiness.
Seriously, read some ZEN folks, let go off the stress and anger and have fun be it LOTRO or anything else you do!

Yeah maybe he could have called it "take responsibility for your own action", when someone somehow seems to have fun grinding his way thru a mmorpg and gets bored because of it there is no other to blame indeed then that person her/himself.
Maybe if you as a gamer understand abit more about those with passion towards a mmorpg instead of these grindfest players maybe you understood why its sort of strange for us mmorpg players with passion for the genre to see people playing mmorpg and see complaints about being bored. Thats just inlogical just like people saying the lost motivation to play, which has not have to be a bad thing but when its mostly followed by people saying they already at max level with a game 2 months old WE ALL KNOW that that way is the grind way which will in almost every case we see on this forum reflects in being bored or some other somesort of negative take upon some games.
Tell you again, ones some of these type of gamers learn how and when to take responsibiiltiy for their own action, is the moment we will see less negative related topics as i still believe (call me ignorant) that the majority of gamers only plays games they like and if they do not like a game they move but most gamers will addept to playstyles, those that are not able to addept will always get burned and alway make topics about them being bored or what ever thing which is strange to have in a MMORPG.
Told this in another topic i feel that some people really should not play mmorpg but remain at reguler online game or fps games as the style we see them play mmorpg fits those genre much better. Or else addept and try and be part of the ingame community, build relations ingame, speak with others, socialize, experiance tells me thats a very difficult one as some people even in groups just simple are unable to have conversation but when they do its most LOUD and OOC and not related to any form of getting imersed within the gameworld, don't jump in a game to lvl (atleast not in a mmorpg) told this also many times "life the live of your character" don't "grind the lvl's of your chararter" and most importently never treath a game like a job as i see many people saying on numerous mmorpg game forums that they feel a game feels like a job, but reality is those saying so mostlikely play that game like a job else a game could never ever feel like a job.
Playstyle is the most importent factor and seeing those that either are bored or not motivated i suggest to either addpet or change your playstyle or simple stop playing mmorpg. (atleast for a while)

Don't you see here more than I said? It's given people know very well what they like and what they do not like. Indeed you say it 'seems' and that is there I may raise my hand say, yes, seems but not is.
Reflecting on my choice of words I admit that they give a narrow minded impression. I should have taken more caution maybe but be it as is now as it was spoken out already.
Nevertheless the intention was not to disagree with the OP on the clear fact that LOTRO is not the 'new world wonder' if you will forgive me for not using terms like 3rd generation or what ever as I don't see this terminology doing justice to the complexity of the genre as whole.
Anyway it comes down on your personal take on any game at any given time. This is exactly there you contradict yourself as for disagreeing with my post as and in the way you did. To be more specific, a game is always what you make out of it. A quick and shallow entertainment fix can be found in any game on the market right now. I presume that same will apply for the upcoming 'block busters'. At least I would be really surprised if they would break the usual mentality applied and to be found among MMO gamers these days.
At the end of the day saying that only you make or break your game and are responsible for your own enjoyment of any given 'tool' is a approach that is not understood widely. My shortcoming here would be that I for one do not care to and neither seem to be able to have another person develop a certain state of mind or maturity in the dealing with games. Especially not on a forum but only in a personal discussion. Which, unfortunately, isn't applicable for this environment we are part of right here and now.
I rest my case knowing I do quite enjoy what was provided as a gaming environment by Turbine. I hope more do and that I'll meet you in game.
NB: As the canon of Middle-earth or rather Tolkiens works are widely accepted and deemed as base of modern fantasy in the western world, labeling the constrained work with a closely monitored intellectual property as 'a rehash' isn't helping to further your argumentation. There is only as much as you may and can do without violating the license. In the light of this circumstance, I tend to say they done a good job.
The choice is simple.
Beat the game or be part of the game?
Burn through or get immersed?
Drink a bottle of fine wine in one shot (and get drunk) , or enjoy the fine complexity in its taste?
Run up a mountian or walk slowly and enjoy the scenery/atmosphere?
These are the questions that "bored" "no endgame content" etc. personalities should ask themselves.
I guess getting older helps a lot but I'm not saying young people can't own the "slow and meaningful" philosophy. It is also a matter of taste, and I am NOT saying either way is the better or wrong.
It is a question of preference and choice!

I find it ironic that you mention understanding people that play these games with passion vs....people that play a LOT more than people that supposedly are impassionate? Hehe, see the irony? No, that's nonsense. If a particular MMO has me in it's grips I do all I can do as much as possible and as often as possible. These games are my hobby and it's hard to find better entertainment in my opinion. Which results in myself & the people I play with experiencing content alot quicker than those that...wait, are *more* passionate, but can't be bothered to play more or don't spend as much time in the game?
It has nothing to do with grinding, you can't use that as a blanket defense anytime someone has more free time than you. "You just grinded blindly to max level and ignored all the wonderous content! I've been playing since beta and I'm only 24, you must just grind if you're any higher!'.
Nonsense. People have more time available to explore and experience these worlds than you do. Guess what, we read the quests, spent days without particular goals and wasted countless hours doing unproductive things in game just for the sake of fun. There was no racing through the game, the issue is, it's a game of linear upward progression, essentially the more time you spend online, the more your character progresses, unless you actively avoid content & combat. What you describe tends to work better in a sandbox environment, rather than what we see in LOTRO: fast, easy advancement for meager effort.
I got into these types of games due to a history of tabletop gaming and roleplaying. I'm in no rush to "win" or "finish" the game, and some of my best in game experiences were simply interactions with other players, role play or otherwise, that didn't result in any advancement at all. And yet because I can afford to play often, I tend to reach the top end of levels a lot sooner than other people.
So your assessment of that is, I'm impassionate about the game, however those that don't commit nearly as much time to it are somehow more passionate? Obviously, anyone with characters more advanced than yours is a dirty grinder and doesn't stop to smell the roses.
Total nonsense.

The post you replied to was not directed to you, and the replies were neither directed to YOU exclusively.
Yes, there is a playing style that is tending to leave out 90%+ of the content in order to "beat" the game.
And yes, the gamers who play this way are the first ones to come and complain about "getting bored".
You have to admit the core truth in there. You migh be slightly or completely different, still - the parallell exists!

Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
Let me add that a healthy balance is the key factor in my book. Constant play will render you bored with any toy in general. Which of course does not apply to everyone.
I'm sure it will not be understood what I mean but I'm gladly proven wrong.

No, that's nonsense. indeed nonsense as i have no clue where that idea of those with more time comes from, what made my text act that way? Did i say grinder have more time? nope, did i say anything about those spending more time the others..again nope? so where does this so-called irony come from you say? You must have missed the part i this time made red should have made it clear i wasn't personaly attacking you, but unfortunaly you picked up some of the words and interperted in your own way which results in us somehow not making contact
If a particular MMO has me in it's grips I do all I can do as much as possible and as often as possible. To me this seems like passion ..so why you reply the way you did?

Which results in myself & the people I play with experiencing content alot quicker than those that...wait, are *more* passionate, but can't be bothered to play more or don't spend as much time in the game? Here you go again all confused about thinking about "more time? "
It has nothing to do with grinding, Ah thanks got me worried thought those with more time where those YOU thought i meant as grinders pfoei thanks for making that clear and we agree here
you can't use that as a blanket defense anytime someone has more free time than you. Huh now you got me confused and you start again about "time?"where did you get that from bro?
"You just grinded blindly to max level and ignored all the wonderous content! thats a grinder alright
I've been playing since beta and I'm only 24, you must just grind if you're any higher!'. Again here you seemm like what i feel is a passionat player
Nonsense. People have more time available to explore and experience these worlds than you do. So still you puzzel me as i really don't get this thing you have with "time" as nothing i said was about that, what do i care if one has 12hours a day to play or 1 hour a day to play like what i truly said is about passion, and seeing you are like me not grinding thru the content like those already at max lvl (else you would have been max like those I am talking about)
Guess what, we read the quests, spent days without particular goals and wasted countless hours doing unproductive things in game just for the sake of fun. What you describe tends to work better in a sandbox environment, rather than what we see in LOTRO: fast, easy advancement for meager effort. what you desribe is the way meant to play mmorpg and the way i play it so really whats the deal here bro? why we miscomunicating, if you just have said you ait a grinder al would have be good right?
I got into these types of games due to a history of tabletop gaming and roleplaying. Obviously, anyone with characters more advanced than yours is a dirty grinder and doesn't stop to smell the roses. Nope if you just had read what i said and reflected that upon yourself you would have had no need to be this confused, like i said plain and simple if you said you aint that grinder I WAS TALKING about you would have made much more sense, but basicly seeing your reaction you had no real clue what it was you responded to sorry to say.
and please let that "time" thing go as it has absolutely nothing to do with anything i mentioned before. Thats the part what i feel made both of use confused in your reply
Total nonsense. basicly your reply was indeed in a way abit nonsense
