My dad got me this

benbookbenbook Member UncommonPosts: 35
Hi, my father recently got himself and I a copy of DDO for father's day so we can both play (he also took away my wow subsription). And I was wondering what is one of the newbie type race/class because I dont know much about D&D my father does and when he starts going at it I just get confused. This sounds like a good experience for my father and I, but I know some of you all don't seem to like it but I'm stuck with it so give me some feedback and some hints please.

-Thanks

Im an Ex-member of DDO(Dungeons & Dragons Online) community, in fact i was the first to hit 10 when the game came out =P.  In The beggining of the game and even at the early levels you almost Must have a Cleric in the party. But if your just looking for an easy starter Clas to play, you should probably pick a human Fighter or a Dwarf Fighter.  Just be careful, in the longrun of the game you end up spending countless minutes/hours waiting for a cleric to become available just to do the cool stuff.

Tell your dad to become a Rogue.  Tell him to have 16+ INT and 16+ DEX and at least 12+ STR.  Tell him to devote his first class feat to (disable device) and his second class feat to (Search).  Its hard to disable a trap if you cant see it.  Search and spot are key along with disable device and pick locks.

Tell him to stay pure to the class and do not multiclass.

You can be a Bard! Choose heal as your spell,  Bards can control groups of monsters with its perform skill.  Bards can also heal.  You need both the ability to control multiple enemies and heal to survive in the game.

All you will need to help the party is a fighter or barbarian.

Just curious and not to start a flamefest but you are 27 years old and your father took away your WoW subscription?

DDO is a good alternative to WoW. It is a lot of fun when you first start out, but can be difficult to find groups. The game as you probably have noticed relies on team work rather than solo play in WoW. Fighter classes are easy to start out with, but I wouldn't worry too much on what you are, as long as you have someone around who can heal.

That's not true. I've been all the way to level 4, and never required a cleric........EVER.

It's a bad mmo. Im sorry your father bought it for you and him.  If he was an avid DnDer he'll be dissappointed.  Feel free to look at some of my posts here to find out the reasons why I think the game is just designed poorly.

Hope you and your dad enjoy it though.

While I think it is really sweet that your dad got this game for the both of you so that you could bond, but why dont you guys go do some bonding outside or something. Go fishing, hiking, something. Again I think it was a great sentiment, some of us dont have fathers around to bond with so either way as long as you are enjoying your time with him I would be greatful.
