Ive heard a lot of awesome stuff about lotro but iam getting back into EVE and not sure if i should play this instead!
i mean whats the healing class like? is it the standard healing, or is it like WoW priest or GW monk or something? also is there a mage/wizard clas or something because i only really like to play mages and healers?
but also i love my pvp and iam wondering when i make a pvmp charcter will that last? will i be able to play him heaps or do they get boring easily?
it would also be great if anyone has a buddy key because i want to make sure i love the game before i go buy it

If you like high fantasy, fast flashy combat, and zillions of sparkly magic spells flying all around, look elsewhere. LOTRO is more "down to (Middle) Earth" since it's bound by the Tolkien IP, which given all the high fantasy, cartoonish fantasy games out there, it could be a nice change of pace. I'm enjoying it, and I swore off fantasy games for awhile.
In Tolkien's world, there's very little true magic, and the only Wizards are Gandalf, Sauron, Saruman and a few others. That said, the Loremaster takes the role of a "caster" in a fellowship. Think of them as very novice wizards, just barely learning what the true wizards once knew. A few flashy "fake" spells like Burning Embers in place of a true magical fireball, and a few more "real" spells are available, and they have pets since they are by far the squishiest of the squishies. Their specialty is crowd control and they do have a heal, but it's more of a backup since it's got a longer cooldown. However, don't compare a Loremaster to WoW's mage which are usually crowd control + "nukers." In LOTRO, the hunter takes over the nuker role.
Minstrels are the true "healing" class. (Quotes because we don't have "health" in LOTRO, we have Morale. Same game mechanic, just a different basis for sticking to the lore -- little to no "magic" remember) They're a lot of fun, and they're even good in a fight. They can wear up to medium armor and I've even seen some with shields!
Guild Wars has a far more fun grind, downside is it's all so pointles really.
DDO is a fun grind, but early level cap and lack of content ruins a game that is potentially amazing.
If only I could take a bit of each game and roll them all into one... *sigh*
I completely agree with this statement. LOTR:O is an absolutely superb, rock solid... Clone. The game designers thoroughly evaluated all of the mainstream MMOs on the market and developed a core system that everyone could learn quickly, use effectively, and provided all of the bells and whistles we have grown to love and expect. Unfortunately, I assume due to the restrictions of the LOTR licensing, this game seems to lack originality and depth of gameplay. I don’t feel the addiction to “see what is around the next rock” or “just another 10000xp and I can use that next skill” that I have felt from other similar games.
Nevertheless, I personally enjoy the game very much. The game is smooth and reliable, which goes a long ways into enjoying your favorite hobby.
My current take on LOTR:O is this: unlike most new MMOs that have 1000+ bugs (graphical instability, crashing, broken features) that require much of the programmer’s focus for the first year, LOTR:O already has that stable baseline system and their designers can focus entirely on new content, balancing, and game play.
This game has a great amount of potential…. how Turbine will use that potential is a story for next year.
