Reading this from 1up:
"One of these was to find a cave housing a logos symbol. Not only are the logos an actual readable language (the excel sheet on Garriott's computer has 2-3,000 symbols) created to be an integral part of the game (here's hoping for a chat font for the truly elite), they are also the key to your special powers. Finding the first unlocks a handy lightning attack, which you can level up along with your other skills and attributes as you progress. Thus equipped, we continued onto our first real town, with Foreans sending us off to hunt scary pigs, blast our way through waves of enemy soldiers, and eventually locate more logos."
This Logos system reminds me of runes from Runequest (if you're old enough to remember that game). That are used in rune magic. I mean that's got to be a good thing no?

Runes are pictorial as this Logos language is.
Runequest runes http://www.nysalor.net/runequest/runes.html (just did a quick google for those) are pictorial see Man & Water. Its more to do as using them as a game mechanic and means of understanding magic or a power.
That's why you rune quest to understand a rune and be able to use it associated power/ability.
Yes - I remember runequest Pen & Paper game.
So similar - you need to find logos to unlock some of the skills.
So far a couple of the competitions have been to decipher logos messages.
