Favor:what, where, why?

Hi, could someone of the personality type that reads manuals and has the ability to both understand and explain them please help out a semi literate quasi noob. Why should I look for Favor and what do I do with it when I get it? And how do I do it?

I keep running into people doing runs for "Favor". Obviously they are not doing me any favors, or they would just hand me that +5 holy great sword of slay everything, strip and give me the +5 Full Plate of omni resistance, and give me the bulging rucksack of 1000,000 pp. Rofl.

The different Houses offer different rewards for favor. One offers 30+ minute buffs you can buy, another offers more bank space. The one which is easy to get is getting what is it 400 favor to unlock Drow character.

You just do the quests in the houses and it adds up as favor. I think the harder the setting on the dungeon will yield more favor. I may be wrong.
