Need proof Alienware is a rip off?

gpettgpett Member Posts: 1,105
For $400 you too can buy an Alienware case with 700W PSU that only has a 30 day warranty.

Haha $400 bucks for a case and power supply?  Are these guys nuts?  It amazes me that trendy product brands can get away with this stuff.

I guess it is true what they say, "A fool and his money are soon parted."  or "There is a sucker born every minute."  or "You have more money than sense."

Wow! I always knew that they were expensive, but that's ridiculous. They're obviously making money off stupid people.

Dell managed to screw Alienware up bad. . .

    What a shame.

Eh Alienware screwed themselves up bad.  They charge 70% over market value for their PCs and then along came Newegg where you can buy the SAME hardware for 70% less.

Instead of lowering their prices to compete they let their high prices remind high.  The ol 2001 excuse of "yea, well Alienware is expensive because they use the best hardware in their PCs" is now null and void when you can get the same brands at Newegg and elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

I bought an Alienware in 2001.  Never again will I buy one. If anyone buys an Alienware for 2000 bucks, just remember you can get the EXACT same pc (brand name and all) for 1000 bucks. You buy a Alienware, you're ripping yourself off.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

I could have used a good bitch slapping  when I bought one 2 years ago. Only thing that I have still from the box is the mobo - I have replaced everything, even the case. I just chucked the damned thing. I had to go to it with a hammer and hacksaw just to get the power supply out. They weld "support" bars in a place that makes it impossible to get the PSU out without destroying the case. That is the last time ever I buy a commercial comp. Building my own from now on.

I'm proud to never have owned an Alienware. I always told the people who asked about Alienware systems that if they highly valued a tacky plastic case, go ahead and buy it.

    Alienware pwned another noob

When I first started looking into computers a few years ago, obviously I had heard of Alienware and new about the "quality" of their product.  But as Enigma pointed out, when I started comparing apples to apples parts wise... I took heed of all of the info and chose to go another path.

I'm ok with PCs (in terms of general knowledge and troubleshooting, basic stuff) and I could tell you anything you buy from Alienware is a massive rip off. Like any other company such as clothing and shoes you tend to buy their name really. I could build a PC or buy one from a site ( ibuypower.com or cyberpowerpc.com ) and save a good $2-3k on the same thing. Hell deck your PC with a Quad-Core, most expensive version of Vista, 4gigs of RAM, 2 X1950 XT or 8800 GTX and you can still save a hell of alot more money via store or on-line and not Alienware.

Only time I will ever have an Alienware is if I win it in a contest or something heh.

Don't forget labor charges if someone doesn't know how to build up a computer from scratch. I generally charge 2 six packs or a liter.

How do you make that little pound symbol in the U.K.?  I don't have it on my keyboard.

Do you hold down shift and hit the 4 key?
