Rappelz- Worth looking at?

HuntnHuntn Member Posts: 284

This Rappelz ad is running on MMORPG.com. I don't see it listed under Released Games. I see it's free and created in Korea. Is it worth looking at or fogetaboutit?

Anyone with Rappelz experience?

ps- I tried to search on Rappelz but MMORPG.com's search function was dorked at the time...

Thanks!

It's another one of those asian item shop games which is supposedly free, yet you will find yourself paying for items to keep up with everyone else. Just say no to item shop games.

I played it for quite some time. It's somewhat unique, but an incredible grindfest.

I'm damning t with faint praise, but that's my opinion of the game. I played it for several months, paid only for the monthly pass to the hidden village (aka the monthly "fee"), and enjoyed myself for quite some time. Ultimately, I gave up on the game because I don't enjoy grinds -that- much. Still, it's worth checking out and enoying for a bit. You may have a different reponse to the game than I did.

As far as how the gameplay is, it's not horrible, but not great.  I enjoy loading up the game on occasion and playing a little but I'm not a huge fan.  It's worth it to give it a try though, not like you have to pay anything for it.

What is the deal on the monthly fee and how expensive is it?

Thanks all for the input! :)

I really enjoyed my time in Rappelz but the grind was too much for me. not for the faint hearted like me lol. really really like the job/class system thing i thought that was well done. thought about rerolling again to see if the grind is a little lighter. jsut so many games out there to play havent had time to revisit. last time i played was befoire they lightened the grind a little

pvp seemed messed up at the time. like u couldnt heal someone pvping messed up

Well this to me is by far the worst grinding (asian) mmo you can play...It's worse than Lineage 2 and 9 Dragons...and the game ( IMO) isnt even as good as those two games....If you're up to it you can give it a try but a heads up, you're going to feel like you've wasted your time trying...

Typical Asian MMO, lots and lots of grinding with very little content.  You will be bored out of you mind if you play it for more than a couple months.

The graphics engine is shaky too, sometimes the entire city would just disappear and yes I have the most current drivers and an 8800gtx.

Community is not much either, most people seem to like to solo, usually took a while to get a group going.

It is really not free, because you need to spend some on the gpotato to do some of the higher level things.

When I played, it was $15 for a 30 day pass to the Hidden Village. It significantly reduced item prices and increased cash gains, allowed for speedy world teleporting, and a host of other useful little features. You do not have to get it, but it makes the game easier.

Rappelz has the same look an feel as Lineage 2.

It is imho the best of the f2p games, and also better than many of the pay 2p games.

The game is quite new over here as the western severs have only gone live last November. It's improving with every game update.

The higher end game play isn't as complete as Lineage 2 yet. Castle sieges are working, and it just got the arenas and guild alliances last month. The Epic 4 game update (already live in Korea) is coming in a few weeks to improve this. Bringing the 2nd profession changes and guild wars are also coming.

That said and taking into account that the game is improving and less than 1 year old compared to the 3 years old Lineage 2, Rappelz is better than L2 in many ways:

    - one of the best pet systems of any mmos I have played (many different pets with a nice level system). (L2 pets are so hard to manage nobody uses them.)

    - better graphics, especially outside the cities with swaying trees and swaying grass in some areas.

    - better quest system, lots of quests compared to L2 (L2 has almost no quests, just grinding)

    - nice and usable mounts, although you can't own them, they are for rent (L2 mounts are so hard to manage nobody uses them)-

    - nice skills management with improvement cards, something more to look forward to.

    - as L2, the same best and fun  fighting system. Fast fights with meaningful hits, screen shaking on crits,... You "feel" it when you hit something. Makes the game fun.

    - open seamless world like L2 (but of course still smaller)

    - as L2 great player shop system. As opposed to a broker system this also builds the community and makes the cities alive (look at the empty VG cities). I also like to go "shopping" for my stuff; it's fun and makes you meet and talk to many people.

    - ...

All mmos are a grind. I have not seen 1 mmo that is not a grind. Now, it's up to you if you like this kind of game play or not. As opposed to the poor Vanguard or Lotro fighting systems , the Rappelz fighing system makes the game fun to play,

I have left the boring Vanguard and Lotro for Rappelz until something better comes out. I have been playing L2 for 1,5 year and still have my L2 subscription, but I haven't played it again since I have started Rappelz 2 months ago. L2 is a great game, but compared to the free Rappelz it is imho not worth the monthly fee.

Now about the negative in Rappelz:

The f2p system brings many teenagers and newbie players to the game. This is what you also get with the easy accessibility of f2p. There are however many quality players; you will also find many hardcore L2 players. Find yourself a nice guild and good friends.

As for the online shop, it is optional and not needed to enjoy the game. I have been playing for 2 months and have never felt the need to use it. It makes leveling faster though.
