I have played many mmo's in my years, the most recent one world of warcraft. I find the game is fun, active, helpful, and has everything it needs to become succesful. I got my hunter to level 70, joined a raiding guild, and we did the grind fest towards getting new gear. I got to the point in the game were i would just run around the orgrimmar bank top and wait till our raid starts at night and raid for a 6 hour long dungeon completion. I got sick of doing this meaningless grind and started to look into other games where i can spend my time. But i think to myself, warcraft is one of the best ones out there apparantly, so if i were to get sucked into another game, whats the difference of me playing another game then warcraft?
I tried to do something new, EVE online i felt excited to work for my clan and we started off really good, but then i realize, all i am doing is grinding to get a better ship to mine with, then what?
And those two words still make me wonder about mmo's.."then what?"
the conclusion is, is it possible for a game to have a satisfying end game content that will get you sucked into it for many years? personally i dont see how a game can go in that far in depth to where your hard work actually gets you something, because personally, i dont think that grinding all the way to 70, then running instances over and over to get good gear is really worth it.
If anyone thinks that maybe there is a game that is in depth, or if you just wish to say your thoughts go ahead and post, because i have teh money, and i have the time, and i want to play a game that i will feel that the 15 bucks every month is worth it.

Greatness is right, because with PvP your opponents are always going to come in an unpreditable combination and unpreditable challenges.
But with PvE raids, I came to the same conclusion of "then what" awhile ago. Basically it's all about being with friends. If you are with people you enjoy helping, it changes the experience of raiding quite a bit. Otherwise it does feel like a chore.
only sanboxes can provide the meaningful experiences you probably looking for. been thinking about trying out ryzom lately. but i am sure they will sneak in some grind but at least its sandbox whereas the journey never ends
been thinking bout getting on some player run servers on neverwinter nights 2 also
enjoyed guild wars for a bit but its not a big world you know. lots and lots of instanced content. good for what it is but not seamless virtual world
