Questions About FFXI

in Final Fantasy XI

I have been researching a couple of MMORPGs out there, alot of time to kill this summer, i have narrowed my list to two games...FFXI and Lineage II. The main question i have about FFXI is if it offer any PvP at all like special Arena events or anything. Second just wondering if there is a pet system at all. Are there any permanent mounts you can own also....or is it a rent system(heard this from someone)....any additional info would be great.

    Serious?  Wow those are two of the worst MMORPG's I have played.  Wait for WoW or EQ2, most of the people will be leaving FFXI and L2 for either of those anyway.

    Yeah, FFXI and L2 are a couple of really terrible MMORPGs, you would definitely be much better off waiting for WOW or EQ2, or perhaps even GW. Though I think that WOW will be the best of the best!

    yea but neither of those come out until after summer...im actually surprised more mmorpg's dont come out around this time when school is letting out and high schoolers and college kids dont have anything else to do...lol

    I only know some single screenshots from the beta of FF XI, but I really want to play it...

     

    Why don't you try Anarchy Online? Until summer the new add-on Alien Invasion will be released.

    FFXI is a lot of fun, but a HUGE timesink so if you don't have a lot of time to play it you might not get far.  They have just implemented PvP in FFXI.  It is controlled PvP, called Ballista, in a certain zone at a certain time.  Check out the link below for more info.  There are two pet classes, the Beastmaster and Summoner.   Beastmasters charm monsters as their pets while Summoners summon the famous avatars from pervious FF's such as Ifrit, Shiva, Titan, etc.  They are advanced classes  and you cannot take the class until you are lvl 30 in a basic class and do a quest.  You cannot own mounts, but when you hit lvl 20 rent chocobos.

    Well, if you have narrowed it down to 2 I can help you narrow it down to one. Because I have played both of them extensively. Unlike some of the people here that have opinions but never gave the games a chance.

    And I will let you know that FFXI has good gameplay, graphics, community, and everything you would want in a MMO except role-playing and PvP. L2 is the total opposite and has good RPing and PvP but everything else lacks quality.

    PS the only other reserve I have for you is that FFXI takes huge amounts of time to get anywhere but if you have the time and a little patience early on you will find that there is no MMO better, and I will stand by that no matter what anyone says.

    Initially both were scheduled for release June 2004 but got pushed back.

    Actually Ballista is in no way PvP. It is a contest between nations in certain areas, at certain times and you see who can kills the most mobs. But you have to be rank 3, so you can't do it right off the bat you have to wait until around level 25-30.

    What are you talking about "Ballista isnt PvP"? When somebody on the opposite team has a stone you have to kill them so they drop it. Also You have to kill an enemy team member before the rook opens up so you can throw the stone in.

    I dont know where your getting that Ballista isnt PvP. Maybe your thinking of the conquest system.
