Ruins of Kunark - Details?

Hey.

I was wondering what everyone thinks about the new expansion coming out soon? I just got EQ 2 recently, like the game, but is the expansion going to be for hardcore and top level guilds pretty much?

You got it confused with an Everquest expansion, EQ2's next one is "Rise of Kunark", not ruins ;)

November 13th 2007 is the answer you want though.

it will have a new starter area for the new race with all you need to egt from lvl 1-20, but other than that it will be mainly focussed on content for levels 65-80. so unless you want to play the new race or you are lvl 65+ you cna probably wait a bit with buying that expansion.

last time i was in the game i re-bought the game EQ2 with desert of flames expansion and created a new account. When i was in i missed out on alot of content but to get that i would have had to purchase all the other expansion's (2+) to play properly. 1 person said i didnt need to buy all the expansions as the last one released had them all included, but this was countered by 5 or 6 others saying i had to purchase all teh expansions, some of which are hard to get hold of.

So why should i bother to go back to a game that has quite a few expansions i would need to get hold of, and the new one comming soon as well as the subscription to play? The expansions alone would set me back over £60 and at a guess the new expansion would set me back £30 <--- thats more than i paid for the initial game which came with the first month subscription included, why do expansions cost the same, hold less content and never include another month's subscription? This is the main reason i hate purchasing expansions for online games. Less content, a couple of touch ups here and there, and the same price to buy but with no free month.

their latest expansion, i believe it's called echoes of faydner (not sure on the spelling), but it came with the original game and all major expansions--didn't include the adventure packs. and i wouldn't be suprised if that's the way they go from now on.

SOE doesnt include adventure packs from the very beginning ,exp packs where always extra and regarding my opinion dont worth to pay for ,especially first cause they are rather small .Game on the other hand has a lot of content so u dont need to purchase packs.

Eq2 in 3 years had 3 expansions that where very good and big especially eof , in order to have access to first 50 aa you must buy kingdom of sky expansion and rest 50 aa echoes of feydwer.

Bad thing was that eof expansion where delivered in small amount in european market and many of us had to digitaly download from official site . This way soe  is reducing her cost and profit more

Here is what you need to experience EQ2 fully:

If you can buy Echoes of Faydwer retail box (available from ebay or amazon if stores are out) which includes EVERYTHING to date except the 3 adventure packs (which come free with Station All Access sub or can be purchased for around $5-7 each).

If you can wait until November 13th the expansion Rise of Kunark will release and include:

    • Base game
    • All expansions
    • All retail box rewards
    • A fair amount of Veteran rewards, something like a year's worth
    • Probably a map
    • 30 days free with a new account
SOE will always make the retail store boxes better and with more goodies then the digital downloads.

Their new approach since EoF is to release one really good expansion a year.  And instead of adventure packs offer free content via updates.  An example of this is the new race and starter city of Neriak given free to players.  Additionally they released Unrest as free content.

Expect EQ2 to be getting better and better.

I am not sure they are totally done with adventure packs but instead of like 4 a year they are doing just 1 or 2 unless they have stated that they are totally getting rid of them since the last thing I heard about them.

I am sure i have seen a post of yours in vangaurd forums where you saying that you play eq2 45 minutes and more time in vg ,then you already know that has so many solo quests and solo staff to do .

At launch EQ2 was a virtually group only game and a bad one at that. Over the 3ish years its been out, it has drastically, and I mean drastically, changed and all for the better. It's is seriously the most in-depth and best MMO out there. They borrowed many features from World of Warcraft, but all for the good. Etc like griffons and talent trees (Achievement trees in EQ2 and there are more options in this game.)

The game is very casual oriented now you can very easily solo from 1 to 70, you'll easily outlevel many of the quests because there are so many, but you can switch off combat exp if you think exp is too fast. There's plenty of zones for you to explore and level in, regardless if you are solo or group-oriented. Exp rate is pretty fast as well, almost as fast as WoW.  I'm solo oriented, sometimes doing group stuff, and I always have too much to do!) No doubt Rise of Kurnark will add a ton of new solo content.

To be honest, you really do need all of the expansions to experience the game to its fullest, especially Kingdom of Sky and Echoes of Faydwer. KoS adds the achivement trees and teleport spires all over the world making travelling more convinent and  EoF has all new zones to explore, new Fae race, and adds a new class-specific achievement tree so those two are sorta necessary.

Probably better is if you  get the new special edition they are releasing which includes all previous expansions and Rise of Kunark around November.)

Of course it will be.  The entire game thus far has been solo friendly, its not going to change now.

Achievements are from EQ1 and griffons were there at launch.

When eq2 releashed and for a period first 10 months it had 500k on his server until soe in lu 13 destroyed balance and most people left thus it wasnt like swg in same period totaly changed and most people left thereafter soe made some good changes and good content expansions but eq2 never recover the original population. Now servers are in good population condition at least mine is (splitpaw).

hit ~350K just after launch, but that had dropped to below 200K by the time LU13 came around, but it’s been slowly going up since.

Balance was non-existent before this, 1 of the 6 tank classes could tank, 1 of the 6 healer classes could heal and 1 of the 12 DPS classes could out DPS any of the tank classes.  LU13 was critical in stopping the games bleeding and it did exactly what it was supposed to, balance the classes and make it possible for the devs to design content effectively. EQ2

well, like 45 level and on you must group and then must raid at the end game.

That is utterly incorrect.  You can absolutely solo all the way to 70.
  • none191none191 Member Posts: 261
You still must raid, though, at the maximum level to experience some content and obtain great gear.  So, you will have no choice in the matter, if you want the gear and access to content, to join a guild and raid.

Is there someone pointing a gun at you and telling you that you must ge that gear or complete that particular content?  There are also 70 crafting levels + tinkering/transmutting are you *forced* to do these as well?

Even the leaders for completed quests haven’t done anywhere near all of them. There are well over 4K quests in the game what difference does it make the a few dozen have some dependency on raids?
  • none191none191 Member Posts: 261
Yes.  You are forced to join a Guild in EQ 2.

What you are saying is that you are forced to raid to experience the raid content.  This is pretty obviously the case but it’s also a rather lame compliant.  Even the raid dropped gear serves only to enable you to successfully complete harder raids.  There is no non-raid content that requires raid dropped gear to complete so the only thing not having raid dropped gear prevents you from doing is raiding.  This means that if you don’t want to raid you don’t have to do it.  End of story.

You forget some things before lu 13 there where enough tanks able to tank  gaurdians ,palladins ,berzerkers, shadowknight, (not with same quality but quite berable ) , only monks and bruisers wherent so good but they had other bonuses .

Pure dps where 6 classes (mages)and not 12 , other 6 you are mentioning about where roques which they where utility  until then and also had decent dps ,fighters where suppose to do highest melle dps as stated from soe .So when soe declared combat changes everyone was asking a lot of things for his class and roques after lu13 kept all utility they had and took so much high dps and (even in archetype things wasnt balanced ) with no other change made on their defens bonuses.

Only healers was needing fixing was from shaman tree especially mystic .It ended up warden and fury to look alike while both of them where very good healers before combat changes .

I could easily see after lu 13 necromancer solo yellow heroic and brigand solo white heroic while others needed group of 4 or 5 for them .In 2 months period after lu13 and desert of flames expansion  servers was almost empty  and american server was merging 6 months after .

Now almost 1 year and a half  later  balance looks very good and some other features is a lot better (leveling and crafting is quicker and more pleasant) better itemization and more drops from instances than in the past  while content was always very good.

Some one is pointing a gun saying get that gear or else in a sense.

Tank needed for Nizzaria/Unrest pst for invite.

/tell Hi im a 70 guardian that would like to go.

/tell back sec nother guardian just sent tell as well.

/tell back what is you hp and mit?

/tell 8138 hp and blah mit

/tell back sorry this guard is better with 10k hp and blah+ mit.

    /tell ok thanks anyways

I recently built another tank, there was a pick up group forming for Feerrott.  The group is looking for a dps .............. i say 45 bruiser lfg ...... no response ........... i send tell ............ they are really wanting a scout ................. i link a few items that are fabled and explain i have masters .................. i got invited over the assassin ................... so my gear / ca upgrades beat the utility of tracking and higher dps just becuase i had better gear.

Now with kunark im betting since every one keeps asking for a challenge in this game, they will do the usual higher hp mobs that hit harder further stretching the fight out which leads to the need of higher mana pools, regens, dps amounts ect ........... this equates to better gear of course .

So if your a healer do you want to heal the tank in treasured or mastercrafted or would you rather heal the tank in all fabled with more hp and mit................... or do you as a tank want that healer with adept1's and a smaller mana pool healing you in this new tuff zone or would you rather have that fabled out healer with large mana pool and master spells?  Then ya have dps, do you want to risk longer times with weaker geared dps or do you want the better geared dps to further help the tank and healer situation by taking the mobs down faster?

The gun being pointed is the path of least resistance or easier gameplay ....................... so metaphorically like in eq1 alot of casuals are going to get shot ....................

  • none191none191 Member Posts: 261
Everyone is saying how excited they are about Rise of Kunark by it seems obvious they want to kill the solo parts of this game but increasing the level cap, introducing epic quests (probably with parts that required/force raiding and grouping) and requiring people to "gear-up" before they can access the new Kunark content.

People are starting to play EQ 2 more because you can solo but SOE keeps making it most forced to join a guild then raid.

It is typical SOE - we love SOLO content and will play EQ 2 - so SOE releases an expansion for group and raid content!
