level 60 gameplay

Do people still play at level 60? I'm thinking of starting up my account, but there's no way that I'm buying that atrocious expansion. I'm mainly interested in battlegrounds and maybe some raiding if people still do that at 60. I have a 60 Warrior and Priest, as well as a Warlock and Mage somewhere around 55.

Any advice/comments? Also a server suggestion, if any, would be nice.

I feel the same way as you, I too wanted to restart but I wasn't willing to buy the addon. It's become cheaper now but at first it was nothing short of a rip off as an ES and I didn't like the way they marketed it. But I honestly doubt life at lvl 60 is still as much fun as it used to be. Sure there will be BG groups available but TBC really sold well (was forced on them but few refused) and afaik even new green gear from the addon is partially more powerful than some of the best stuff you got in the classic version of the game. I'm not playing, so I can't really tell you but I honestly doubt it's still the fun it used to be. It's more or less like letter D2 classic battle it out with LoD players, if you ever played Diablo. But you know even though Blizzard's standing has fallen quite a bit with me, I'd probably sign up again on a classic non TBC WoW server even it was just until AoC is released. I miss meh rogue.

If you don't buy the expansion your 60's will be useless, no one runs the old instances much anymore, and if they do they take all 70's....

If you want to re-roll some BG twinks then you could still have some fun, that's all my son does these days anymore is fight one of his many BG characters (at all levels) as he's tired of the end game raiding.

The expansion content is fun.  No one stays at 60 long enough to raid.  PvP is a viable idea, but that battleground level will be full of expansion twinks.

Also, have you tried the expansion?  I found the 60 - 70 grind to be a lot more interesting and inspired than 1 - 60.

Yeah the lvl 60 game is pretty much dead.  It's really hard to get a run through one of the old raid instances unless your guild runs it.  If you do happen to get the xpac the grind from 60-70 isn't as bad as most of the rest of the game.  You get mad xp from quests and kills.  But yeah...up to you.  BG's are still pretty active.  Although I'm not sure how active the BG's in the 50-60 range are...I'm sure most people are trying to get to 58 to go to Outlands.

So you have no characters above level 60 and you already think the expansion is "atrocious". On what basis did you form that opinion? How many areas of the expansion have you seen?

Battlegrounds - AV 51-60 is still alive and active. At least on my server. You should avoid WSG and AB, since you will find yourself at the bottom of the 60-69 category.

Raids - on my server (EU Ravenholdt), there are occasional pick-up raids to UBRS and ZG. The presence of characters with higher levels and outlands gear makes these raids a lot easier for pick-up-groups than they once were. The other level 60 raid instances are pretty much dead.

Instances - a lot of groups still run BRD, but these groups typically contain a fair number of people below 58. Lack of experienced and well geared players who aren't in outlands make the end parts (i.e. the emperor) far harder to reach. Other endgame instances are only visited on a very occasional basis.

    Thanks for the reply everyone.

The reason I'm not getting the expansion is because I don't like what it has to offer. I'm not really concerned about the raiding as much as how well AV's going. I was thinking of just grinding for the epic gear, which would allow me to do 2k+ fireball crits as a fire mage. Pewpewing from the back in AV  would keep me occupied until WAR comes out or I get into the beta. Of course, this won't work unless the AVs are doing well. I'll be playing on Blackrock, one of the oldest servers, so I figure there will be some people playing in 51-60 AV...

The xpac just adds more of whats already ingame, odd how you called the xpac atrocious yet you're going back to play more WoW.  I've always found it funny how people form an opinion of something they've never experienced for themselves.  +/- Hype victim?

Speak for yourself (~hype victim), perhaps the OP has some principles. Not everyone is willing to pay 35€ for minimal new content (as you admit yourself) and witness one's hundreds of hours worth of work getting shattered within a whim. I too haven't played the es, but likewise didn't like their dismissive attitude in this regard. Blizzard used to persuade people into buying their (limited) addons through content, not by backing them into a corner.

You will find it difficult to pick up a full set of epic pvp gear. A lot of it requires not just honour, but AB tokens, and you are at the bottom of the AB bracket. Then again, given how often you will have to play to grind the honour, losing a few ABs shouldn't hurt too much.
