I did this when I bought a new comp. It has 2gig ram and the gfx card above, and runs vista ultimate 64. I was looking at upgrading the memory recently when I heard about vista hogging recourses, but I've been playing WOW, LOTRO, and Vanguard on max settings without problems. Maybe the people having the slow downs were 32bit systems, I don't know. Thank God mine is fine, because I bought the comp especially for WAR... this was before WAR got put back of course grrrrrrrrr.

I would have been a bit upset to say the least if I had experienced slow performance after going out of my way to buy big in order to avoid exactly that problem. Anyway, I can add more memory if I need to. I have 2 slots left open that can take 2gig each. Will cost me about £140 to do it that way according to the Crucial scanner on their website, so I will wait until its really necessary.

Well for one you do not have directx10 as your graphic card does not support it.

I assume it is a laptop as that graphics combo is regularly found in them, it is not that good of a graphics card and uses part of your system memory.

Like someone said above, you have to get more memory, even Wow will run like a snail with that little memory.

Avoid games that have high graphics requirements, like EQ2, Vanguard, etc.  Those games will just not run on your system.

Vista is an absolute piece of crap and resource hog. Hell, a side by side comparison running XP on the same system as vista with 2 gigs of RAM and XP is still faster. Gating that up to 4 gigs of RAM, XP is still faster and not as damn buggy. My wife works for the government and her IT guys won't even touch Vista as it is a security nightmare. I beleive that Microsoft would rather kill the PC gaming market and get everyone on board for the 360 console. They have far more invested into it and the release of dx10 exclusively for Vista is aboslute nonsense as well. Hell, many top game developers are outraged at the audicty of Micronuts. As a long time hardcore gamer with top of the line systems, this is the death of PC gaming to me. I bought the piece of crap Vista and had to wipe and reformat my hard drive jsut to go back to XP and it was a pain in the ass. Not to mention my 5 grand system built a year and half ago is now mid grade hardware. I am done feeding this conglomorate machine and throwing my cash away on bogus investments. It is not a matter of me affording it but a matter of principle.

IF you can't afford to be a PC gamer, invest in a console. Video cards have a life expectancy of 15 months. PC Gaming is an enthusiast sport, it's not a cheap hobby. However, spending 5 grand on a rig - are you insane or just a sucker?! I upgrade my MB/CPU and video card every 12-15 months... and I ALWAYS have a high end rig. I do this easily between 1500-2000. Build your own rig or stfu about how much you spent and how scammed you feel that your hardware outdated in 18 months.

For Vista to be a good experience, it is important to build your rig with vista compliant hardware. Doing this, the ride is smooth and the benchmarks are = to that of XP. If your MB is not certified for Vista - good luck! Enjoy your Direct X 9  - while I embrace the amazing visuals of Direct X 10.

Typical assnine response. I been gaming since pre-internet BBS and have built several machines over the years. Your rationale is utterly ridiculous. Instead of giving a warranted debate you feel a need to bash me. You feel like big man on campus now? If you are that ignorant to continue to buy into the machine then good for you. I have much better things to invest my money in. It is not about an enthusiast sport anymore and as I stated, I can afford to upgrade consistently as I always have. If you do not understand the principle I cannot help the fact that you are a complete cement head who should partake his own advice and stfu! The amazing visuals of dx10 is a crock of shit. I have a 300 dollar edition of Vista Pro I will gladly sell to your dumbass if you think it iso freaking great. BTW you call me a sucker for spending 5 grand and you spend 1500-2000 every 15 months?? Who the F*** is the sucker??

I have two computers running side by side. My old Sony VAIO desktop is exclusively for work these days, but I used to play MMOs on it fine, but gradually it lost ground in gfx. The framerate suffered as newer games came out. It runs XP. My new computer came with Vista ultimate 32. I didn't build it myself as I have in the past partly out of lasiness, and partly out of a feeling that I was too "out of the loop" to research all I needed to know about good DX10/Vista gaming (its been a lot if years since I last built a system)

I paid £80 (about $160US)  for Vista 64 Ultimate OEM from Amazon UK and installed it without problems. I am lucky in that all my hardware is compatible, and my software runs smoothly. I read that you paid $300? Is that the retail version then? I don't know why you had trouble with your system. Mine runs smoothly, and the framerate stays high on max settings in my games. Is your gfx card high end? Vista has a lot of bells and whistles that you can disable. That might help if your computer is marginal.

I feel your pain with the cost of constant upgading. I left PC gaming for a few years for exactly that reason and turned to xbox then later xbox 360, but until recently, I have found the 360 lacking in titles that grab my interest. I mean, the 360 still has nothing to really rival the great MMOs I came back to the PC to play. Until it does, my 360 will sit mostly unused. I use it more for listening to CDs now than gaming. When Assasin's Creed comes out I will play it, and there are games on the horizon for it, but it feels like I'm always looking to the future where the 360 is concerned. What about the present? Where the hell are the great games I thought I bought it to play?
