1. EQ 2. WoW(I wasn't a fan of the game but I did enjoy the game at times with its classes, instances, talent trees and battlegrounds) 3. AC2(would have been 2 had it had better allround design and content)
AC2 ~ best game community ever (tied with ryzom) , hated by my fellow AC players because it wasn't AC with graphics upgrade.
Ryzom ~ great community and very unique , also superb AI.
FFXI ~ the only major mmorpg to come out of japan. Great music, Special effects (still probably the best even today) lots of content aswell no hitting lvl 75 in 1 month ala WoW.
Looking forward to AoC (ffa pvp and item looting ) , and an emulation of AC2 (currently 3 projects underway that I know of )
3. Pristontale (Not that good but had loads of fun when it was free )
Most anticipated MMO:
-Stargate worlds
Age of Conan seems nice aswell but i'm rather a scifi player and well TR just feels repetitive. Then again we will see when all of em go gold with all that hyping going on.
1. (Classic) Ultima Online. Anything after AoS is to item, gear based. In classic UO a mage could play the game naked and the only items aside from a few magic weapons got crafted by players only. I now hate EA games and I will never play another MMO with EA taged on. I feel bad for all the poor saps that are going to play Warhammer.
2. Shadowbane. The father of all (REAL) PvP. What other MMO has full on FFA PvP, player looting, 0 restrictions for killing, player built castle sieges, 0 quests, many classes and endless char builds? None ! I love you Shadowbane!
3. I have played many other MMO's that sucked hardcore. Maybe Darkfall Online will grab my rocks like classic UO and SB did when it does come out.
Please dont knock a game until you try it but i may be wrong with warhammer but it looks very promising also EA is only the distributer they have nothing to do with developement as what i have read
Like I said, I will NEVER play another MMO with EA taged on, even if they are just the distributer. Also Warhammer / WoW / GW / Girl style MMO's are not my cup of tea. I only play FFA/ PvP MMO's that allow me to PvP without restrictions.
Girl Style MMO's lol that is the first time i have heard that plus warhammer will be pvp based game, also dont knock games i was just stating that they are only distributers dont knock other games because you dont like them
Warhammer will have sick PvP restrictions... not my cup of tea. Im sry I put down a MMO made for girls... I did not mean to hurt your feelings. If I was a girl maybe we could have hooked up in game and talked about boys and hot new clothes, sry no luck .
First and foremost it was fun and original. It's level/skill/point system was great and made you feel like your getting a cookie every time you kill a mob. Unique character specialization and point distribution ensures that no two characters were exactly alike. The guild/monarchy aspect made it fun and rewarding to help new players because they in turn would help you gain xp faster. This lead to a great community. True, once macroing was rampant this became a problem but the idea was right, it just needed some tweaking.
The PVP was AWESOME! It's freedom of movement coupled with the ability to dodge spells and ranged attacks meant that the player at the keyboard determined the outcome, not the level or gear of the character. Add limited item loss and vitae to make winning a battle worth something and you have a great system.
The quests were fun, meaningful, part of a storyline, and challanging. Nothing like getting that final mote you need for your atlan weapon off a rotting limestone golem's corpse. To bad this game had a horrible marketing/publicity department. Who knows, maybe you would have played it, hence realizing how great of a game this actually was.
2. Everquest 1 &2
The EQ series gets #2 on my list for it's immersion factor and it's great endgame content. There is so much stuff to do in these games that it's almost overwhelming.
3. Star Wars (Pre Cu)
I'm a fanboy, it was fun, there were no elves. And then comes the upgrades! Sony should have committed MMO seppuku just to save face for ruining a great title. The first MMO in the Star Wars series should have been Knights of the Old Republic. Any living thing that eats and responds to stimuli understands that people only wanted to play 3 classes anyway (Jedi,Sith,Bounty Hunter.)
I just couldn't get into anything else. I can't wait for WAR. However, there have a been a couple of freebies that were ok.. but WOW, GW, LOTRO, EQ2.. I just couldn't keep playing them.
I'm guessing most of you have only played 3 MMORPGs so this isn't very accurate. As a person who has played a lot them (UO, EQ, DAOC, FFXI, AC2, SWG, EQ2, WOW, AO, AL). There really is no best MMO, there are just different flavors for different people. The game which I feel that MMO fans owe the most is EQ. While some will say that UO was the originator, EQ is really the game that made MMOs into the thriving communities which they are now. The game was beyond its time, few will remember that It had graphics which were better than single player games at its release.
So my list goes:
1. EQ
2. W.O.W. - it took the EQ formula and added the Blizzard polish
3. FFXI - a great game with really creative ideas which never did as well in the states as it should have.
SWG is trash now and I don't care what it used to be.
DAOC had very little end game, the RVR was based on massing people, and 4AM relic raids.
AC2 had the worst launch in history
EQ2 was a great game which would probably be 4th on the list
I would imagine that most of these guys that posted have played many more than 3 mmorpgs. Probably as many as you have but they were just following the threads instructions.. which were.. List "Your Personal" Top 3 MMOGS of all time.. apparently you missed that.
Edit : Also he said to mention your most anticipated MMOG coming out.
