As they survive longer they gain points, so when they die they can reroll as something better.
Repair Man, Athlete, Body Builder, Cop, Doctor, Military, Field Medic, Scientist, Computer Expert, etc etc etc.

The goal should be to repair civilization, but with each player death, more zombies apear. You could even have a chance of running into your former self.

And I still stand by my suggestion to allow a player to play as a mob of zombies in a RTS gameplay mode.

I like that perma death idea

After reading this thread i think most of the supporters are pretty similar to my ideas for this type of game.

And to the people against this because of "just zombies".  Your looking at it all wrong.  The point of the game isn't to kill mobs day and night, to just randomly kill zombies.  Think of it more like dead rising in the survival mode.  You have to get food from dangerous areas, you have to defend yourself.  You can only carry so many things(no backpacks full of guns and ammo and food and clothes and car parts).

You need craftable/repairable vehicles, bases that you can build, perhaps outside the city limits in a military guarded area.(but who's to say that some person won't run with 1000 zombies after him right to the area ^_^)

Perhaps even having loot that you have to carry WITH someone else.  Imagine trying to carry say.... carpentry tables? and having to drag it with another person all the way back to a "safe point" where it can be "escorted" to your "storehouse"

Perhaps having to have people with high mechanical/engineering skill levels to create/maintain power sources.

    Your goal is to live.

    To Survive.

    To thrive.

When you think of it like wow, or heck any other mmo, where you go on "adventures" to "save the day" "save the world"  Then of course zombies are going to bore you after awhile.  This game would never be as popular as wow, it'd be a real niche game.  But what a wonderful niche.  After the gankers lose everything they own or are killed perminantly they will get tired of the game and leave.

And if this game can be on a large enough scale, i'd love to see weekly or perhaps monthly respawn times on certain objects, with shorter, 5 hour-24 hour timers on more vital objects.

If things just respawn right after you click em, or you could camp a area for respawns it'd be boring.  But at the same time, things HAVE to respawn or nobody could achieve anything in the game after the very beginning

Zombie MMO? Hmm... hell why not!

I'm tired of same old MMO's. This sounds like fun, I like the idea that it would not be skills etc. And I say no to Zombie's being player race. Better to focus on humans and give the player a nice character creation.

PvP is also possible. We humans are animals and will do anything to stay alive. It might be possible to have PvP where players fight over different areas around the world or things, like hospitals, vehicles, food etc.

I don't like the idea of perma death, but is support if the character can get real hurt. Bullet in the arm will make him weak and can't use his arm 100%, leg hurt the character will walk slow and also become weak. Only thing to "heal" would be to find a person with doctor skills or hospital (might be empty) or a shop etc.

But I can't help to think, what's the point with this kind of game? Kill Zombies? Then I can play Resident Evil.

It must be somekind of goals to fight for. Or rewards.

    Played:
From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.

The point of the game is what every mmorpg game should be about.

    True socialization and guild functionality.

There would be goals, but it wouldn't be what you'd associate.  There would never be stats on clothes or weapons.  There would never be epics.  Goals would be perhaps rescueing randomly spawned npc survivors.  Building your guild base/personal base, and gathering the food you need to live(i'm up for a hunger bar) the ammo you need to defend yourself.  And the tools you need to create your new life.

Think of it like a outpost of humanity in a world over ridden by zombies, with you and the other survivors trying to make something of yourselves..  What would you do?  What would you want to do?  And what woul you do when everyone else wants what you have, and are desperate enough to take it from you?  Perhaps by force if needed.

Would you risk your base by building it away from other people to protect it? but leaving it away from the safety of the military.

Would you help people?  Would you give them your hard earned/created weapons/ammo?  Would you sell your crafted vehicles?

What can you achieve before the final bite?
