I kinda feel like I'm pushed into things with EQ2...

...don't get me wrong, I'm just making a view not stating fact but I feel like I can't be a two axe carrying 'zerker because I'm told by other players that I have to be one handed and shield. I can't be staff Bruiser because I'm told that I'm gimped unless I go unarmed in the beginning.

I could just be being badly informed of course, or just getting it wrong myself but this is how I feel with EQ2 sometimes and why I don't feel I can stick with a class much past level 10.

Do whatever you want.  I never listen to the freaks who tell me what I should and should not do.

If you're happy with two axes, by golly lob of dem heads with two axes!

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Yes do what you think is fun. Min/Maxers have be ruining RPG's (both online and tabletop) even since the white box D&D.
  • bonobotheorybonobotheory Member UncommonPosts: 1,007
Play how you want to play. I can't remember what the min-maxers say is the best weapon combination for monks, but I use dual batons because I like the look of it. When I use my berserker to tank, I use sword and shield, but when I'm soloing, I use a two-hander or dual-wield. I might be doing 10% less damage, but I don't play to be the absolute best. It's a game, and I play it for fun.

Take what they say as suggestions. None of it is mandatory.

If you are a min/maxer this is true but if you play to have fun this is false. The only issue comes if you group with min/maxers and even then they are usually guilded together so only play together.

Nothing wrong with wielding two axes unless of course you are supposed to be the tank.

Do what i used to do, i usually had a two hander but i kept on my person a one hander + shield for those occasions that i was tanking for a group.

Now on the other hand, if you want to head down the best AA line for zerkers your going to have to switch to one hander + buckler like i did.

Do what you want but don't expect people to agree with you if you gimp yourself.

Personally I find focusing on what the class does best works better than trying to make it do something it's not made to.

Man do what you think is right if it isnt then change it lol you have to be happy with what you are playing not what everyone else thinks is right

Thanks for all the replies guys, it's great to know I'm not gimping myself if I choose to play how I want to. :)

If your talking about the Acheivement changes ive read the notes on test, warriors have minimal changes, my set up wont be affected and ill still have to wear a buckler.

Everytime I look at what I did with my AA's I think that I've gimped my zerker.  Then I get into a group and start tanking and die because I have agro from every mob were facing and the healer can't heal me that fast.  That's when I know that I'm not gimped, I'm just a bad ass tank that dies a lot.

No really.  My AA's are fubar and I don't care.

Although I will say that I wouldn't trade my shield for duals any day,  bash, whatever it's called, rocks all to hell.  Especially in PvP.  Finding a one handed spear is turning into an epic quest though.

Personally I always feel overwhelmed, and like a massive noob in the game.  So much stuff to do that I never know what I should be doing, and always feel like I'm missing something.  It's actually a good thing in game for me becuase I'm normally antisocial when I play and not knowing what I'm doing forces me to talk to people.

    Wish Darkfall would release.

Well, as a tank you're supposed to have all the agro in the group, so your doing your job right.  Either the healer is not doing their job properly or the group needs a second healer.

A big mistake is to let the people on the forums tell you there's only certain ways to play your character, or that there's one ideal build and everyone is gimped. Sure, there's good advice for a starting player, but always keep in mind that you have plenty of time to experiment, if you go wrong you can always change your character later on. Also, most of the "ideal specs" are aimed at maximizing damage for level 70 characters, and won't always apply to your level 20 guy. But most of all, just do whatever the hell you want and have fun. Personally I hate the aspect of the game where everyone is parsing their DPS and doing an ego comparison, I don't care about all that.

Like others have said, play your own way.

I'm a bruiser and use a 2H mace. Everybody tells me that it's a mistake and dual-wield is THE only way to go, but it works great and more importantly - I'm having fun with it :)

I agree, do what you think is fun, but if you do, don't expect to get too many groups.  I had similar issues and I did it my way, and was forced to solo most of the time because like you said, people have their own ideas on what it takes to play your class and if you don't meet that, they don't want to play with you, because you're substandard.  Oh and don't try to get in on a raid unless you're perfectly geared because thats not likely to happen for you.

Yeah, we needed a second healer.  The mobs were hitting me for nearly 50% of my HP.  They were a couple of levels over me.  I believe we were doing the RoV and fighting lvl 29 mobs when I was 26 or so.

Got a little better when I started letting the monk take agro from a mob or two.  Then it went back down hill when I had to intervene to save the monk.

Really only was a problem when it was 4 mobs at a time.

Only game I tank in.  First time I've ever been a tank.  I love it.

Edit:  I did learn a valuable lesson though.  Let the monk die, my gears more important to keep intact.

    Wish Darkfall would release.

Pffft! Monks! They should die as often as possible as that is the only true way to getting in touch with their inner peace...

Just a side note, if your getting too many mobs on you at once check how your pulling those mobs.  Do not use ranged weaponry to pull with as this draws social agro from mobs nearby.  Body pull the mobs so you dont get the others joining in.

Yes, Runnyeye is where you first start running into social aggro in a big way, and it’s something of a wall for new tanks.  Any hostile spell or taunt while the mob is too close to other encounters and you will be getting 3+ encounters per pull.

You will need to use proximity aggro to pull for the rest of the game, and Runnyeye is where you need to learn how to do it.

that also applies to pulling with spells.

It looked like I was getting the groups that were connected.  The term they use in game eludes me at the moment.

Thanks for the advise btw.  I really appreciate it.

One of the reason I'm hesitant to group more is that I'm afraid that I'll wipe my groups with bad pulls, and piss everyone off.  Going from playing primarilly nukers in every MMO to tanking is quite the jump for me.  Entirely dif. gameplay.

    Edit: Runnyeye?
