Cancelling Lotro Account!!!

I cancelled my LOTRO account only 14 days into the free 30 days, I guess it's me, but after all the hype I was dissapointed and found it a mind numbingly dull chore to play.

Surely I'm not the only person who feels this game is too similar to it's competitors.

When will the genre of mmorpg take the next step forward?

Any one know which of the upcomming crop will be an evolution and not a rehash

It's Age of Conan for me.

I hope that the new Warhammer might have something for me, and im definetly going to try out Aion and Tabula Rasa also... Until then, it's Lotr Online and City of Heroes/Villains on my end....

Tearsnsorrow: Have you tried playing Lotr with someone?? i find it mostly amusing to be in fellowships, even from the early stages, and the go on for days... just having fun... took me 5 days to reach lvl 13, just because we where having fun.. :)

    Well... anyone else?

Well my account's cancelled now, however I joined an RP server and . I read' but didn't accept alot of seemingly tedious quests. "You kill bears to get to a guy who asks you to kill bears" kinda tedium.

My only interaction with the few other players I met was the occasional bow, even when my character healed a fellow player, or spoke to them, there was no sense that this wasn't a solo trip. (That's my personal experience anyway).

It's really funny how you can see the worlds of achievers breaking to pieces now. Everyday some level 50 quit, rantingly complaining about how boring and repetetive this game got. Brings a smile to my face every time...

Why? - Because the posers stand there, at least on my server, in Bree, and want this "WHOA, where did you get that sword/helmet/iuberleet mace" but people deliberately choose to just walk by or type a /laugh ... Because when in groups some special type of player thinks he's in control because he is level 47, people /laugh, /leave or - the kings way - ignore him... Because you can buy good gear in the Auction House and because people that want everything NOW NOW NOW are slowed down by the majority of players that take their time for everything...

It's essentially a hard boiled laid-back game, and people that try to distort it into an achiever game will eventually fail, if not while dealing with the community then surely while dealing with their own attitude that is not satisfied.

Which eventually leads to the never encountered fact that there are actually LESS idiots around than 3, 4 weeks ago. Number of l77t kids is decreasing, number of PvP freaks is decreasing, number of age-independend poser-nerds is decreasing... While I can always find fun and thorough RP in almost any inn...

*sigh* That's so nice to see really...

next step into mmo's i would say pirates of the burning sea and infinity quest for earth and fallen earth as thay got nothing to do with elves and wizards lol

    • WAR (rvr)
    • Pirates of the Burning Sea
    • Tabula Rasa
    • etc

Those are ones i'm awaiting, non fantasy MMOG.  I included WAR, even though it's fantasy, because it's an RVR game, and there aren't many, if any, others out there besides DAoC.

I've been playing for only a month, and only made it to lvl 38.  I just can't force myself to login, especially if i'm not enjoying myself.  Not everyone who quits is lvl 50.  The ones who quit are bored with the repetitive gameplay LotRO offers.  And yes, i've tried multiple classes, anywhere from the 10-20.  I've tried Monster Play, and there's no freeps to kill.  Why?  Because it's just as you said, "Everyday some level 50 quit."

Yeah, I'll probably cancel 2 accounts in the next few days as well...haven't logged in since 3rd week in May.....

That still doesnt change the fact that this game is no different than any other game out there. A few minor things like MP and thats it. I think thats all the OP was getting at, they just want something different than the run of the mill games. A familar cry here on the forums for the past couple years now, lol.

Sadly in LOTRo it all comes down to what lvl your char is, you can simply make a test your self, go and kill a boar a lvl above you, and then return to the very same boar when you have gained a lvl your self and take off your gear, only leaving your weapon on.  You will kill it exactly as fast as you did in a lower lvl with your gear.

Another one is fighting spiders etc. for a high lvl quest, will you only be able to kill the ones theres 4 lvls above you (If i remember) if  you pick a fight with a spider 5 lvls above will you most likely do, miss.. miss.. eveade.. And you will need to kite it around if your a ranger.

This game is obviously not meant to be played soloing boars... At least not while having fun. I admit, completely, that soloing boars and wolves and bandits over and over is incredibly boring and the solo-combat is not very fun, since its not very action-packed...

All granted. But this was never a feature and never was it announced, there was no "experience action packed exciting combat from day1". It was announced as "Dive into the greatest fantasy of all times"... And thats consequently it. Combat gets interesting in groups with conjunctions (these are actually the silent star of this game in my book) and support. You can be so incredibly effective with the right people and the right maneuvers. More than in other games group tactic offers many possibilities. Where you stand DOES play a role, and many short time buffs make it interesting.

I myself play a minstrel, and when I'm logging on, first thing I do is ask my guild for a mate that wants to do something together... And that's it. The game allows you to play solo, its possible and many things can be done solo. But the gap between your solo and your group expierience is just a LOT larger than in most other games.

That's also the reason I find it so funny when people say they found this game so "unsocial" and everyone would do things on their own. Well, on my server, it took some time but during the last days and weeks people start to realize... Hey, soloing this is manifest boredom, whereas grouping is a lot more rewarding. So I commonly see groups of two or three people doing regular quests... Because they run so much smoother in a small team...

MUCH more than - lets say - WoW, where a duo is more like "half the XP for practically no help and a lot of hassle"...

It is damn hilarious how overhyped this game was on this web page.

It is also funny how otherwise great games such as Vanguard get the bad hype.

Look at how badly WAR is hyped on this forum.  MMORPG:  603k subscribers, 3/4th are alts and viral marketers.  Look at the participation in the polls. rofl.

maybe, just maybe theres a reason that Vanguard went from hyped and anticipated to "bad example v2.0"... I can pull numbers out of my a** too, you know? *grins*

    Bad release.

    LotR had a smooth release.

Bad hype? All V:SoH turned out to be was hype. Once the actual game was released, not only did it not bring anything new to the table outside of in-game card tricks veiled as a "revolutionary" new feature (diplomacy), but the world was a sloppy work-in-progress full of glitches. There's no reason to attack people who play V:SoH and actually like it, but the lackluster state in which this game was released, and the way Sigil misled consumers, is indefensible. LoTR didn't make any outrageous claims, and they delivered everything they promised their audience.

Well, you cannot really argue with OP.  LotRO is pretty bad at being interesting.  The game holds your hand all the way through it and it assumes one is a brain dead moron when doing the quests.  Hell, Im suprised they dont have cheat codes implemented in the game.  I likened LotRO as Toon Town but with better graphics and a playerbase about 4 years older.

The rate things are going with Pirates of the Burning Sea, it'll be another 2 years.  I forsee Pirates being a lot like Shadowbane. Took so damn long to make when it's release itll be buggy as hell and the graphics will be 5 years under par.

I have also cancelled as of the 22nd of next month - was too late to cancel for this month.

But I agree with your other sentiments, and to be honest, I just don't see much out there of games in development that really excite me. Nearly all seem to be semi-clones of existing games. AoC might be a bit different, but despite the hype I really don't have a lot of hope - for it or any of the others.

Right now it looks like rehash is the flavor of the month.

And I wish there were more choices between non-fantasy games, that genre is gettng pretty tired also.

What might NOT be so funny is that I also see a whole lot of under-50's quitting.

The biggest hump seems to be in the 35-45 range. I finally just got totally 100% bored at level 39. Well actually at 38, but I figured one more level for old times sake (bad idea - is there such a thing as negative boredom?).

The longer I played, the more I realized that a large part of the basic gameplay was just borked. It is pretty much anti-raid, which is not bad by itself - but that also means that there really IS no goal worth striving for. (Although "striving" in LOTRO mainly means grinding your way through the next hold-your-hand quest to kill yet more boars).

This game is all fluff. Kind of like cotton candy - pretty and shiny and totally non-nutritive.

Charlespayne I am with you there mate! I have 4 subscriptions going and I have played the pre Alpha game engine for Infinity more than all of them.  I am looking for a game like the old privateer's with today's graghics and having to actually fly the ship unlike in EVE (albeit I have played EVE for 3 years now so don't start telling me how good it is).

Infinity seems to have what I am looking for.  Once it is released I am cancelling all the other subs. Until then its AoC, War etc etc.... just to drag me through until release.  Bah! forget the +10 sword,  this boy is waiting to fly a top of the class interceptor with some real nasty weapons to strafe his enemies. Bye bye VG, EVE and the rest....
