What MMO's (and why) do you play?

StrezzStrezz Member Posts: 45
Hi...

What MMO's are you currently playing, and why?

Im playing Lotr Online and City of Heroes/villains at the moment... Lotr Online because it's new, well balanced, and visual very stunning, and CoH/V because it's so freakin' hilarious being both good and bad, while wearing spandex... (I know; I got issues!)

Well... to go a little deeper, i find the Lotr Online to be all that i wanted in a Fantasy MMO... it got the lore, the "belivable" monsters and bad guys, and on top of it all, the whole "Let's copy everything that works from other MMO's" have me caught as a satisfied customer!

CoH/V is the first MMO i really got hooked on... i have WoW also, but im only playing it for a month or two at a time, and then im fed up... also got RF Online, D&D: Stormreach and Guild Wars, but they just never got to me, like CoH/V or Lotr does/did...

ok, let's have it: what are you playing, and why?

Hmmm.... Are you only into fantasy MMO's, or can it be something else?  How about adventuring with me when Aion comes out?

I can enjoy a sci-fi setting too but it must be bug free and the servers must be stable.

oh? Cool.... so you can be all you want to be, with one "character/ship"? But it takes sooooo loooong to "be something" in the game (At least that's my experience after 7 days trial game)....

EQ2 because it is the best fantasy MMO out atm. Best graphics, gameplay, and more content than anything. Plus I have lots of choices in difficulty and playstyle without being penalized. Funny how a 2 and a half year old MMO has better graphics than anything that's come out lately, but I do understand limitations on most customer's computers.

I am currently playing RF Online and Lineage II. I'm playing Lineage II because i love the pvp and castle seiges as well as the graphics, they are just fantastic. Same goes for RF Online except its set in the future and i just love grinding(goes for both games).

WoW player here love the gear detail and how they really try hard to adapt it to gamers needs/wants may be cartoony but makes up for it with gameplay.

As well as Lotro im playin as well and is good graphics and grouping, but still needs time to develope. ..... hopefully.

LoTRO for the moment because there isnt a whole lot out there to play.  Luckily have some good single player games coming in the next couple months and new mmo's coming as well.

EVE-Online. Tried others (WoW, LoTR, Lineage I and II, RFO and a myriad of F2P MMOs) but nothing could compare.

For starters - yes the game takes bloody long to start. Most vet myself included will tell a noob - "train your learning skills up 5/5/4"

and now that you mention it i never really took it as being a long time but by the calculations it's apx 2 months of barely playing so yea,

not much fun. Albeit you could forgo the learning skills until later on but that's another story.

Now, why eve? yes it did get some rather nasty publicity as of late (bloody Goons - for those who dont know, a lousy group that usually migrate from game to game bringing absolutely nothing but generally horrid attitude and lackluster humor that only seems

funny in junior high school.) and yes the game is really hard at times and boring too. But when the going  gets going its an explosive

orgasmic experience which nothing else can compare to. Going pvp in 0.0 which doesnt belong to you armed with only your ship and

your wit and perhaps 1 or 2 wingman, getting a few kills, disrupting the enemies' activities only to have a swarm of defense pilots rush

to your location guns blazing is just amazing. Then comes the unlikely event that you do escape in which case you have a whole game

of manhunt going where its literally a race to safe space bypassing countless attempts by the defense fleet to stop you.

I've had one such occasion where my flight of 5-6 ships managed to outflank the fleet chasing us thus allowing us to pick off 1 or 2 stragglers before having to run for our lives as the fleet returned to help (a bit too late i might add) the battleships they had left behind. I

must say that was an intense hour or 2.

Now i'm not advocating that such occasions are common, on the contrary these occasions are quite  hard to come by and you will lose quite a few ships trying to get such a high. On that note, losing really means losing. Unlike WoW where you get ganked and say 'oh ****' but then you only have to wait 10-20 minutes and you're back to where you started. In EVE, you lose say a Heavy Assault Ship

(think, +++ sword or something) and you've lost quite a lot of time. The ultimate grind. Work hard for 2-3 days, lose it all in 2 hours. I've

personally lost well over a month's worth of work in just under 5 minutes. Sadist maybe but i love it. It really makes you feel like you've accomplished something (achieved a new rank in no0bness maybe but its still an achievement).

well, i'm sure you guys can guess i love the game, hell i've been playing since November 2003. That by itself must mean something (i actually started playing the game way before when it was still in Alpha stage). Overall, i'd recommend the game to anyone with a bit of patience as it will take a while to really do much for the average player (i'd say 3 months minimum but i've heard of people getting right into alliance work within days of their subbing). Oh one more note - Alliance warfare can be so boring. This isnt Lineage where castle siege take 10-30 minutes. The EVE equivalent of a castle (Outpost/POS) take hours if not days to take down with a decently clad fleet (i'm talking of at least 40-100 men fleet) so yea, that can get boring really fast. But as I said, nothing compares to the thrill of the hunt in EVE.

I wrote a lot, thank you for reading it all and yes you can say "he's crazy"

Man, you sure did explain why EvE is good for you.... Hmm... Maybe i should try the 14 day trial, and then see what's in it (If anything) for me...

Do i loose any features by only playing the trial, or is it a full package?

Vanguard at the moment, due to best graphics, most potential, nostalgia, and originality.
  • WolfenprideWolfenpride Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,988

Ragnarok online and Americas army *mmofps if you count that*

Ragnarok because my friends play it, its cute, pvp is fun, and uh I guess originality.

Off and on lotro, im a founder so accounts pretty much free for me to play when I please.

    Vanguard

Depth, Class System, its ENORMOUS World, varied content - solo and group.  Graphics are awesome.  Very fun opportunities to explore the world by air, sea, or land.  Honestly, has the potential to become the best MMO in history.  To discuss depth, you have class depth, you have race depth, world depth, and some Quest depth.  It is a deep game, very advanced.  Very worth playing.

    EQ II

Great community.  I really like it and might be falling in love.  Very solo friendly, new player friendly.  It has an excellent mentor system.  Works just brilliantly.  Tons of Quests and has an EQ 1 feel without all the EQ 1 bs (corpse runs, forced zerg raiding, etc.)  It might very well be the best MMO on the market right now, but I need more experience with it.

    EQ 1

Very rarely for when I need my EQ 1 injection.  I have tons of old friends that play; I am working on getting them to RETURN to Vanguard and try EQ 2.

Right now I'm playing CoH/V and I'm in a beta that I'm enjoying a bit.  I keep CoH/V around because I can stop for weeks, even a couple of months, and basically pick up where I left off.  They make it very easy for people that way.  We move around a lot because of my husband's work so I tend to choose games that don't demand too much commitment.  Several years ago, I played Shadowbane.  I was in the beta and played for a few months in release.  The amount of time and effort that game demanded made my brain melt.  It was good fun for a while but never, ever again.  I like going to sleep at night without worrying that every thing I did that day will be ashes in the morning!

aaah... i see a few Vanguard players.... After all the trash talking this game got, i more or less decided, that it wasnt worth the hassle.. Might i be wrong? And what does this game have, that is better than others?
  • TofkeTofke Member UncommonPosts: 342
After whining in beta that wow was a shallow game but quite polished, I played it untill a few months past TBC.

Tried since then some couple of trials and f2p games and well none of em can grasp my attention.

So atm i'm not playing anything except betatesting some scifi game ;p and holding my breath for stargate worlds, age of conan and pirates of the burning sea.

    Definitely.

The amount of bad information about Vanguard on this web page is endless.  The release of Vanguard was terrible.  However, the game has recovered from it and continues to recover.  It is a great game, imho.  Very fun.  A lot to do.  I think if SOE continues to work as aggressively as they are, it can become the best MMO in history.  The world is so enormous, so much lore, such diversity and things that people could get very creative with it.

EQ2 for me until Warhammer online comes out , or if get into the beta which i doubt because of my old graphic card 5900FX , eq2  is really  very good now and i'm enjoying it  alot , my ratonga necro is level 52 and there's loads i have still to see in the game. plus as others have mentioned EQ2 has a great community on the server i'm on at least which is Runnyeye .

i tryed Lotro for a week but i cancelled and i wish i had not wasted the 30 pounds the box cost me , you live and learn i guess ;) , i found the game to have a very  immature community constant swearing in /OOC and ninja looting/mining mob tapping all the time from wannabee legolas elves is also very annoying.

the monster play is bugged to hell and back ,which is a shame as thats the main reason i bought the game in the first place , oh plus the code for cloak of the peace-keeper that i was meant to get with the box would not work , all in all a very bad experience from lotro and i won't be returning.
