The charts update every 6 months. Last one was either last month or two months ago.

Eve as of early this month has around 210 000 Subscibers.

Bear in mind tho a lot of us like to have second accounts to help out with stuff. Some mad people tho have more than 2 [i ahve no idea how they canmanage this as i used to ahve 2 and could only just manage].

Seems like a good game judging from the reviews I've seen on eve-online.com. The game has certainly got stunning graphics.

Game has been out since november of '03 or so.  Some have been playing all four years.  As for the graphics, they have not been upgraded since release, but they are releasing a fully upgraded direct x 10 version client this winter as well as the ability to have avatars that are walking around in  stations.

I really dont see EVE dying at least anytime soon, and the reason is pretty simple. It has no competition, EVE is pretty different from all MMOs that are out today, its a space flying sim and i really dont know of another one.  Mabye SWG JTL but that shit the bed a long time ago.

EVE gives people a feeling that other MMOs dont, its almost as if its a different genre.

    misconseption

A good number of EvE accounts are 2nd 3rd 4th I believe the number is around estimated... 40k

    which is a LOT

but there are still at least 100,000 people playing

and that is more than you need to get a group of other people to be those other accounts without having a to pay and play one yourself

That said I've been playing 1.5 year with only one account

but I'm a more casual player so I don't really know how everyone else works

i played my first year without second account as well, but then had the chance to get one of a friend that stopped playing.

The current subscriber count is around 170k-180k with about 32k active Trials and as kieron stated about 2 months ago, the percentage of people with secondary or tertiary accounts is below 10 %.

Actually from CCP's own homepage as of 30th of May 2007.. they wrote: "EVE Online has a current subscription base of more than 180,000 players in more than 80 countries." if they had 210 000 subscribers.. they would probably have written "over 200 000 subcribers" right ?

Still that is more than enough for CCP to run the game ... but as I use to read on their forums I don't belive I have seen so much whining about server as it is these days ... unexpected shutdowns and lag seems to be pretty bad... however I know from when I played the game that people where complaining about that too and yet I hardly ever experienced lag.

Unless I went to Jita (wich was almost never) and one time I went to Gallente noobarea where I got one lagspike there.

Most of the time I lived in Low-Sec and none-populated high sec areas where we had our offices.

In regards to active members in Eve. MMOGCHART.COM says that there are 125625 gamers in eve. This was the latest stat but can't remember which month this year it is from.

  • ShohadakuShohadaku Member Posts: 581

EVE rocks. There are plenty people on.

That record people speak of isnt just 30k people. It's 30k ON ONE SERVER. EVE might not have millions, but it seems like more because everyone is on the same universe (server).

There are a few changes I would like, but nothing to have me stop playing.

This is the most unique and intelligent MMO out right now.

Games been on for years (important to me that a game has longevity), but is vastly upgraded. Graphics are stunning.

     cheers icelanders!

No, that source is outdated now, and it was normally never much more than a guesstimate on its numbers.... as most publishers don't release their sub numbers.

Here's the really key number, right now during peak hours (like Sunday afternoon) there were over 34000 players online.  Even more important, the rookie help channel had almost 500 players in it..... and it was scrolling so quickly with questions and answers you could hardly follow it.... point being...lots of new players entering the game, even now.

So, if you are thinking of joining up for the first time, don't fear, you'll have lots of other folks there just like you, and plenty of good folks to answer those questions you have. (the community is really patient about this.)  One thing though, be sure to do the main tutorial at least once, and even twice if you didn't quite get it the first time around.  The help channel will be quite hostile to players that have obviously skipped it.

Ok then Kyleran, What is the gender breakdown in Eve?

Are the majority of players  males under 40 years of age?

  • JADEDRAG0NJADEDRAG0N Member Posts: 733

I belive the current gender breakdown is 95% male 5% female as stated by the PR guy a month or so ago.

    Correct in 1 :)

Also:  180,000 subscribers, 32k active trial accounts:  212k active accounts

Just depends how you spin the numbers.  CCP only reports "subscribers" on paid accounts.  When they report subscribers they are specifically NOT including trial accounts.  So EVE has roughly 212,000 active accounts.  Only 180,000 of them are currently subscribed, however.  Up from 140,000 subscribers 8 months ago.

    Edit: Corrected a typo.

I used to love MMORPGCHART but unfortunately the owner/author of that website doesn't keep it up to date anymore.  It's been very inaccurate for quite some time now. :(  Shame really... it used to be the definitive source of information on subscriber count.

Don't really need it for EVE though.  CCP Periodically releases subscriber/account information in press releases.  It's one of the few MMO's that still do.

Eve is a slow burner, but will outlast nearly all the bright quick burning mmorpg's that come and go

I always really enjoyed MMORPGChart.com as well, but he hasn't updated his site in over a year.  However, a month or two ago a new site that tracks MMOGs opened up.  It is http://www.mmogdata.com/

Eve Online is a great game.  However, I do not think that it is for everyone.  To really enjoy the game, you need to enjoy non-consentual PVP.  If you don't like it, then you are probably going to get bored with the game.  Like everyone else, I would reccommend that you do the tutorial.  It is really good.

It basically goes to show that all these people yelling scandle and little effect on the playerbase.

Nice to see that a bunch of whiners can't hurt the game.

Well I'm glad someone is going to try to pick up where SirBruce has left off.  I'll keep an eye on the site to see how he does.  Looks like he's using old data right now till he can get new data points.

    2)  Once in game join EVE University.  It is quite simply the best move a new player can make.  Do the tutorial and the first missions it sends you to to get some isk together.  Then do the missions on your graduation paper.  Then join EVE University.

    3)  Don't stress on isk or skills.  Enjoy the game.  Too many people are too focussed on being 'Teh Ubah' instead of just playing the damn game.  There's no need to be 'teh ubah' in EVE.  It's not about who is the best ever.  It's about working with your corporation to accomplish the goals you set for yourselves.

In red is the most important part of the game

Oh, to those that talk about players comeing to EVE and PVPing I say, Meh...

If you want to come to EVE and play the rest of the game I can tell you how to become a profitable MFG/Miner in just a few days.  Because the rest of the game is about the ISK.

And... People please get it right, EVE is NOT on 1 single server it is on 1 Single Shard (made up of lots of linked servers) which means that everyone plays in the same "world" unlike most games where the servers are not linked so are broken into multipal shards.

And.. Though EVE is not dieing it is not growing as fast as it was or could. When I started playing there was 2000 +/- players, the end of the year their was 6000+/- then it jumped to 100,000+/- accounts 3 years later.  Now, 4 years later is floating at 180,000 accounts (not players) but accounts. Now, while a low player count is good for things like lag (the lag in large battles has been really bad for the last year) it does not help CCP buy new equipment, hire new personel to add content etc...  Several of the CCP top people have said that they are happy hovering around the 180k mark as thats enough income to pay the emploiees and the bills so maybe growing is not a goal which actually I agree with. Actually I prefered the gameplay back when the player base was under 20k online as I did not lag as much and also did not have as much competetion.

Also...  keep in mind that Toontown has a larger playerbase (is it not also on a single shard?)  EVE is the heavy blue line Under Toontown's

Minor correction:  EVE is growing FASTER now than it ever has before.  See below:

On or around  release EVE had 15,000 accounts 6 months later it had roughly 30,000 accounts.  1 year after release it went to 60,000 players (because E&B died and 90% of it's playerbase went to EVE due to a deal CCP worked for E&B accounts).  2 years after release it was at approximately 80,000 accounts and 3 years after release it was at approximately 120,000 accounts.   4 years after release (today) it is at approximately 180,000 accounts.

    Lets see:

    Growth Rate:

    first year: 40,000 accounts

    second year: 20,000 accounts

    third year:  40,000 accounts

    fourth year:  60,000 accounts

Still not sure why people quibble over the difference between 'players' and 'accounts' though.  Every single MMORPG on the market has a high percentage of players with multiple accounts.  Hell in EQ it wasn't uncommon for people to have 4 or more once it was 4 years old.  I know for a fact that people in WOW have multiple accounts as well.  It's not a phenomena isolated to EVE.

Eve-Online ? Yes great game, Big world. Nice gameplay. Anyone can use multi accounts same  time. BUT ! EVE online Die soon! Why ? Imposible to play battles more then 100 vs 100. Horrible LAG hit if more ppl come to same solarsystem. One time alot of ppl try to destroy Capital ship Factory to prevent build Super Capital ship Titan class. Atackers kill factory in the end, but 90% of atackers stay in horrible LAG & didnt see anything on battlefield. Modules activation time about 10-20 minutes. This is like in WOW mage try to cast spell in PVP battle & spell casted after 20 minutes. Game Developers answer petitions with words: " we dont know what happened ! all work fine!" All members from our alliance laught then see this words, Coz 1800 peoles cant do anything about 2 hours. I think EVE-Online not good choice to play.

Sorry about my english. I try best.

let me guess BoB sent 100 ships in and your alliance sent in 300 to overwhelm them  You should know by now how to reduce lag in eve [I.E. next time send in 100 and keep th rest as re-inforcments].
