Get both tbh...their both great games. Though imo CoH is better. The classes are more fun to me at least. CoV is a bit more populated since it is newer than CoH but for 30 bucks i say its worth getting both.

Actually, CoV is less populated then CoH, b/c of the team continuity.

I’m assuming you’re buying the Good vs. Evil pack? For $30, you’re getting both games, plus 4 special in-game items. Two fully interchangeable costumes, the jump-jet, which while not the best power ever will help out in those “just don’t reach” situations, and the Pocket D teleport pass (an anywhere in game teleport that brings you to a 3-way central location you can use to travel between zones or party it up RP style in the club).

Your also going to get 12 slots per server and all the content in the game for $14.99 a month. The game is $14.99 a month if you have just CoH, just CoV, or both. So you might as well buy both.

The game is a light hearted, fun MMO. Number crunchers need not apply.

    They are both good games.

If you're going to play, you should get the Good vs. Evil pack. You get both games and all the bonuses that come from owning both (with only one monthly fee), along with a couple of bonus powers and costume options.

If you're undecided, get the free trial.

    I Voted Don't Even Bother,

Because, At first the game seems really good and unique,

i liked that i could customize my character any way I wanted

and i liked that it was in a different environment than almost all other MMORPGs

but after a while it just got really boring and i lost interest in it after level 20 or so.

All the quests are the same(they are in most games but this game was really bad)

    In groups its really Clustered,

and this game tends to lag when your in a group

on the brighter side though i must say,

this game looks great graphic wise

some people enjoy farming the repetitive content. I use to like the character creation.

I dunno man CoX is a good game if you dont mind the repetition and simplicity. i sometimes miss this game but its the PVP keeping me away. it really had a lot of good ideas and somethings I actuaslly hope to see more games incorporate

RIP CoX you gave me almost a year of fun. any game that does that always deserves at least an 8

    Get both.

There are many reasons to play the game: compete for badges, just enjoy the superheroes/villains environment, that's still unique, or simply go for fast action. You can diversify your gameplay creating different heroes/villains and, when you will go bored because of the repetitive missions, just switch to another game for a while, then when you will go bored switch back, and so on.... That's what most of people do, till the next fantastic, uber-mmo never released before will be thrown on market :)

Compared with all mmo's around, CoX definitely will give you some fun time.

Just a quick question, do CoH and CoV have seperate $14.99 monthly fees, or if you buy them together is it just one monthly payment?

    Thanks!

  • JpizzleJpizzle Member Posts: 371

    $14.99 for both.

both games = everything in the game + 12 character slots per server

CoH = everything hero side, except bases and PvP zones and 8 slots per server

CoV only = everything villain side including PvP zones and bases; 8 slots per server

Get only 1.  Any is cool.

It will focus your gaming experience.  Get the other side when your done/bored with the first.  An overdose isn't good.  Keep the good stuff for once you are done with a side completely.  If you get both at once, you won't explore each side as much, you will put them together and be bored with the whole thing faster.  Seeing the differences after playing either side will be a LOT more thrilling.

Getting the 2 sides at the same times may confuse you, open too many things.  I like to master what I do.  Even if I would have gotten both at the same time, I would have played 1 game completely before starting the other.

For 30 bucks and 15 a month to play both sides, the Good v Evil edition is a good value imo.  I recently came back after a year away playing other games and I'm amazed at all of the new content, which is a definite plus.  Cryptic has done a great job of keeping this game fresh, and there's no sign that they plan on slowing down.

Character customization is the best by far of any game I've played, and it's always a blast to hit 'random' on the costume screen to see what they come up with.

Yes it's repetitive after a while, but only if you focus solely on the missions given by your standard questgivers.  The Statesman task force will test most teams, a great challenge for even those who have run it many times.  Also, the large number of powersets available to you diminish the repetitiveness.  Even within the same archetype, your choices are many, and after you get your first hero to 50, two new types open up.  (Not sure if they have any plans to add that to villain side).

I believe there's a 2 week trial available still, I'd suggest hunting around for that if you haven't already.

Although I agree that focusing on one side is a good idea; it seems as if he/she would get more bang for the buck by buying the CoH/V pack. Why buy the two games seperate from each other? Shelling out the $30 for both makes much more sense. They can still limit themselves by playing Heroes (or Villains) first. Switching sides later on.

To the OP: I do recommend downloading the 14 day trial. This will give you a wonderful opportunity to check out both the Hero and Villain sides without havin to shell out your money.  If you enjoy it, you can go out and buy it and just upgrade from a trial to a paid account.

Would paying $10 + $10 be better then paying $30?  Yup, especially that after the first $10, you can change your mind and never buy the second half if for any reason, you don't want to.  Or you can buy it 6 months later and get the free month then.

Now, I know CoV is selling for $10 alone, not sure for CoH, but can't be more.

Also CoH + CoV = 2 included months, vs 1 with the single box.

The drawbacks are A) you don't get the bonus GvE items (which many think are worth it alone). And B) You have to find the separate boxes, which is easier said than done these days.

I agree with some of the previous posters.  Start with a trial account if you haven't already.  Then, if you decide you want to play it more after the trial is over, buy the GvE boxed set.  Finding the games individually packaged is a bit difficult, plus I love the special in game items you get from GvE edition personally anyways.  Plus, if you are going to play the game, you may as well have both hero and villain sides so you have access to all aspects of the game.  That said, the missions do get repetitive over time, but the community is awesome, plus this game is truly unique and a nice change of pace from most fantasy MMO's.

I decided to try the trial 2-days ago with a friend. I had a lot of fun designing a character and then once I played the game I knew I wasn't going to play it much longer within the first minute. I quit after 5 minutes.

  • geldonyetichgeldonyetich Member Posts: 1,340

Get em' both, it's the same subscription price, and if you get bored of playing your hero you can always switch to your villain temporarily and stuff.

There is no PvP in this game.  They've added it, true, but like 1% of the player population even bothers with all these PvP zones.  So consider this a non-pvP game.  Hell, consider the entire MMORPG Genre a non-PvP game.  Not that many people like getting ganked when they'd rather grind.

Well, thats certainly giving it a fair trial.

    Well, this is oky.

Sometimes, peoples know they don't like something fast.

I personnally loves CoV, but I can understand not everyone will.  I rather have him leave now, relatively happy with his test, then try it and then hate each and every moment of the try and then hate the game.  He actually enjoy the character creation, he didn't like the game for 5 minutes...

He spent more time in game actually enjoying it then not enjoying it.

His opinion is valid, even if he didn't play it long.  It doesn't change the fact that for me, and for many other players, CoV is the best MMO out there, and by far.  Some peoples don't like it.  Fine with me.

Hrm... I recall the seperate games costing more. Doing an online search, I see there is only the GvE boxed set available at most places. I checked on FutureShop.ca and EBGames.com.... Granted, it is only just the two places. I might poke around some more.

Over at the PlayNC Store, CoH is $19.99 and CoV is $19.99 while GvE is $29.99.

When I have seen CoH or CoV on their own they were both around the $20 CDN mark. But who knows now. I'd have to trapse around to each store and see if they still have the single games available.

Anyway, enough of my yammerings for now. I still stand by what I said and suggested to the OP. :)

I tried the 14 day trial of CoX, played both Heroes and Villans and loved it, stupid thing I did was buy it for $30 at the plaync site, at Frys.com its at $19.99. check other sites you might get it cheaper.
