I've seen some pretty pathetic things in my time playing mmorpg's but this takes the cake. Undeniable proof that people are being paid to farm adena in china to sell online for a massive profit.
There's even a jpg of a help wanted add for adena farmers. Not that I can read chinese but if you go the link below and go about half way down the page and look at Britonguy's post you'll see it.

This is not only pathetic for the people getting paid the measly sum on a monthly basis but it ruins any type of immersion and destroys the community for this particular game.

ummmmm....
okay lol...
you DOOOOOO realise this is only one of 9 games including Everquest, Ultima Online, SWG and DAoC that this IGE company farms money for right?... in fact if u go straight to www.ige.com u will see that their homepage is a plat buying site for EverQuest... not only that but IGE isnt the only "company" out there that does this...
practically EVERY SINGLE GAME worth playing out there has these people...
i LOVE how you say "I've seen some pretty pathetic things in my time playing mmorpg's but this takes the cake"... well u obviously havnt seen much then have you?...
if u dont like Lineage 2 then just say so... dont come on here and make urself look like an idiot
no matter where u come from... no matter where u are now... no matter where ur going... its all about the EXP

Pcgamer carried an article recently (2 issues ago i think). It talked about online economy and showed EQ as number 77 or so best economy in the world. There was also a story about a warehouse in mexico that hired people to play DAoC 24/7 in shifts and sell accounts and money until mythic took them to court but they ran off because the tax man came for them lol.
Also some website that sold virtual reality things been sold for millions of dollars to a fellow competitor.
So really L2 is not unique.MMORP money/account is hot ever since an underpaid fireman decided to quit UO in 1998 andplaced his account on ebay and got over $1000.I think the peak really was in 2001 when an uo castle in a prime location could go for $2000 and a chap on tunare(EQ) sold his account for a whooping $5000.
Browsing thru ebay it is not as bad as before though the SWG jedi thing sparked a small come back of people paying thousands for virtual account with the first jedi account going for a cool $4000.
But it it is here to stay we will forever be plagued with people selling accounts/money because there are loads of people with more money then sense that plague the MMORPG community.
Some do not even have this money. In 2001, a 14 year old boy forged his father's signature and with the help of a fellow friend were able to get an overdraft from the father's account of $3000.Which they promptly spent on an un named mmorpg virtual goods.
Whats the point. Not in any game yet concieved has farming for real life cash been as prevelant as in L2. The effect to the economy because of this destroys the game play and immersion. They could farm all day in EQ and it doesn't effect the player driven economy quite as bad.
Never did I see a bot in eq/daoc/ao. Never did I hear someone say "you go now" in those games. Never before has botting been a prevelant problem in any other game but this one. I've cancelled and not going back ever. However, the point I'm trying to make here, is that in a player driven economy, like L2, this type of thing destroys any reason for playing. kthx good work drive thru.

One of the MMO's running has a real world cash economy... ie. you buy your ingame items using your real world credit card. Project Entropia i think... not 100% tho
I find the whole thing fascinating and I love it....
Somthing very "Matrix" about it all dont you think ?

a job of a lorer is to preach the history of chaos with out the lorer of chaos all would be in chaos
Take a deep drink of your demon Lad, tonight we tangle with the fire in the gut.
hehe I have to agree here. L2 is a pure pile of steamy crap. Its boring.... Combat is dull, spells are stupid and repetitve. There is no reason to even think about playing L2. I still just cant believe the game is such crap lol. Played for 4 days and quit. There no faction system, spells are boring, items are all the same look, every ones a clone of eachother.
Ughhh. Worst MMORPG release yet. For the fact the game has no content and its battle system is blah.
I really can't see the farmers as "bad". They are just taking advantage of the game engine to their benfit.
If NCSoft wanted to stop it, they easily could. Make the MOBs they are farming stop dropping loot at random intervals or completely until they leave.
They are not really doing anything they can't do within the capabilities of the engine. Doesn't that game have PvP? Why doesn't a bunch of high level players just walk through the farming area and wipe them all out?
Just seems like an enterpising individual was able to come up with a concept, get a good system together, and get players to do it for him. Whether they are being paid or not, it is a great idea until NCSoft puts an end to it.
The real problem is not the farmers. It is the knuckleheads who are willing to spend real world money to get in game goods. Ridiculous.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
TaskyZZ pretty much hits it on the head. Its the the design that make farmers so prelevant. In order to get money, you have to mindlessly kill things alot lower than you in level. This wasnt well thought out. Most people dont want to do this. So they buy the adena off farmers on Ebay. That make Lineage 2 there job, well because it is almost setup like one.
I think one of the big things that killed Lineage 2 for alof of the U.S. market, is they tried to appeal to hardcore gamers who could put 12+ a day playing time in the game, that theres just to small of a percentage of gamers. The game needs a big Enema.
It could be good, the engine, graphics, and sound are top notch.
Just make it more fun for goodness sakes. The grind, the karma system. Its all sadistic. Thats why they have low subscription rates. And the grind will get to you, wether you defend it now or not. I have seen many people on there homepage forum, that defended the grind all through the beta, to start posting now. "Oh the Grind is bad, really i was wrong".
Lineage 2 needs the following
Lowered Grind - for people with a life, IF not make a Server or two called "people who have jobs or a family server".
Better drops and Adena. This will reduce bots. Ban the rest
More available character creation options, and more distinct looking armor. People like to look different, thats one of the huge reasons COH is going big right now. Not to mention UO to, both of these games offer unique characters. I dont want to have a clone.
NAme Filter than you cant use Numbers in.
A better Karma System. One kill red is ridiculous. And the dropping a weapon if you die is crazy, this game is solely based on items. It takes forever to buy one, and you can loose it in a second. Hell you can loose it dieing to a mob. This goes back to the game being for the hardcore.
No exp penality in pvp. Dont need it. DAOC, EQ, UO, non had it, we liked it.
Better traveling. No doubt the dragons will help, but thats not till +35... Horse system in Daoc would be nice.
Now maybe the hardcore wouldnt like these changes, but i bet you if they did that here. That they would pick up subscriptions.
The thing that worries me about L2 (joins the hijack of this thread) is that even if you did all the stuff lested above to the game you still just end up with another cookie cutter so called fantasy MMO. If L2 is someones "fantasy" then they need to get out more, it looks more like a game that would entertain North Koreans than South Koreans, at least it would give them somthing to do when they arnt looking for grass to eat
After you played EQ and DAoC there was just no point in continuing to make these games that are soooo just like the last one. EQ2 and Wow will suffer from the same issues no matter how good the graphics are or how many shades of hair colour you can choose. However long you took to get bored with EQ2 and DAoC its going to take about half that long to get sick of the "new wave" of fantasy MMO's.
No my friends, somthing needs to change, CoH is a tentative step in the right direction but still a pretty safe bet as far as gameplay goes. We need somthing that was like Command and Conquer was to strategy gaming to happen in MMO's to take it in a new direction or we are just gonna be slaying better and better looking rats for the forseeable future
So it is any wonder that the player base is largely gonna be bots ? After all these are not fun games they are a repetetive series of tasks best completed by somthing like other AI while we enjoy ourselves.

Well I think EQ2 will have the new feel. I feel WOW will get old fast it looks like EQ1 with Warcraft chars. Nothing new. EQ2 has ALOT of new stuff. Talking NPC, scheduled NPC AI. I mean what more could ya ask for!! A Gnoll to shout YOur Dead! In voice!
Now an MMORTS would be amazing! Something like C&C but slower paced on unit building and construction of bases. I wish for an MMORTS at some point. Verants MMORTS was cacneled but i hope a new one rises!
