Communities and a feeling of "Team"

There's been plenty of talk about Uber guilds and Family guilds and blah blah blah. It seems to be some odd fetish of the online community.

Well, I'm from a different school of thought.

I wont lie and say I dont care about progression, loot, or prestige. I do, but I don't care about it for MYSELF. It seems to be a constant in the community to expect a guild to sell itself to YOU, like YOU are the hot commodity here. People only care what the guild can do for them. That mentality drives me up the wall, I'm reminded of a rather famouse quote "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what YOU can do for your country" - JFK.

I care about progression and loot. I also care about the family feel, why can't you have all that in one guild? You can, thats the problem. People assume that a family feel and being "uber" are mutually exclusive however they are very very wrong in that. It just takes a little more time to accomplish it

To me being in a guild is not about getting loot, getting that next kill, or even having that "family" feel. To me its about being a part of something bigger than myself. A guild is its own entity, when you can put your own concerns aside and think of the Guild first, think of the Team, then you have risen to a new level. When a guild or team moves in unison, going forward to accomplish a goal whether it be as small as mining resources or as large as killing a god or the god of gods in a game there's a special feeling of accomplishment not often felt in solo endeavors. Thats what I play for. Thats why I play MMorpgs, I'm all about the M's I think as a community we need to get back to the basics, get beyond the stereotypes of "uber vs. family", while those stereotypes exist for a reason they are NOT the only options for guild life.
I refuse to tag Heart Forge as a family guild or an uber guild. We are neither, we are Heart Forge. I can't count the messages I get asking if we will be uber, then asking if we will have a family feel. Yes Why cant you have both?
