Genre Preferences in MMORPGs

Though in theory I like to see industry trends stray away from recycled fantasy, all the titles I'm looking forward to on the horizon seem to STILL be fantasy-based. This got me thinking, "Why don't sci-fi MMORPGs interest me?" I'd say I enjoy sci-fi just as much as fantasy in film and television, so why the bias towards sci-fi in MMORPGs? Maybe none of the current visions of the future as put out there by MMORPG designers interests me enough to suspend disbelief and throw myself into their world? But there seems to be plenty of diversity out there.

If STO turns out to be well put together, I'd definitely give that a shot, or even if Warhammer 40K was ever made into an MMORPG. But I feel both those licenses have a history and lore that would breath life into the blank canvas of space. I don't know why the genre turns me off so much. SWG, Eve, or Tabula Rasa all promise to offer plenty that fantasy games do not. Maybe lasers and spaceships don't do it for me in an MMO context?

I'm not looking for answers, but I'd be interested to hear if you have any rabid aversion or attraction to any particular genre of MMORPG and why do you think it is?

I love the fantasy  genre of MMO's because I love mythology and alot of the MMO's like DAoC, Gods & Heroes, COnan , UO implement a bit of mythology into their product. Now on the same not I really look forward to Marvel Universe which will be modern day super hero .... So I think it depends on how the GAME itself moves you. I hated WoW even though it had the same concepts as LOTRO and enjoyed LOTRO. There is only one reason i'm looking forward to Tabula Rasa Richard Garriot the creator of Ultima Online made it. Still doesnt mean i'm going to like it or dedicate time to it but I am interested on how it will turn out. I dont like shooting monsters or aliens with guns until their hit points get to zero.... if it's a futuristic space mmo I expect more realistic strategy implementations. But thats just me.

    Games Enjoyed: UO,EQ,AC,EQ2,COX,LOTRO
    Games Played(-Above):WoW,MXO,GW(beta),RFO,ArchLord,V:SOH,Rappelz,Ryzom,DDO
    Games I felt were a rip-off: DDO,ArchLord,V:SOH - all newer how ironic
