Yeah, I hate that. I like those innovative games where the ore nodes walk into your house and mine themselves.

Come off it, you know what I mean, don't be a fan boi geez... the old ore node thing is sooo boring these days, been there done it a million times in a million games.

I could have said a lot worse about the game :P

You're right, you could have said a lot worse. Not only do you have to find resource nodes and harvest them yourself, but you have to find monsters and kill them, find dungeons and enter them, find other players and socialize with them. It's all so terrible.

aye, i dont like the concept of killing my own mobs

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

I’d like it if the mobs brought the ore back to my house then committed suicide.

EQ2 doesn't have to be my favorite game of all time in the whole friggin world for me to recomend it.

i kinda like it but i've said it before its just not jumping out at me nor any of the classes idk what it is,BUT i think if i had played it before WoW i would have enjoyed it ALOT more. it just plays to closely to WOW and there's nothing worng with that at all but i quit wow because i was sick of it. thats probably why i just can't get into EQ2 like i have other games.it has everything i like about MMOs and then some but eh...

BUT i would still recomend it to other people, it is a solid game.

Do tell what title(s) you'd recommend instead..Oh and please something other than the usual suspects.

While not the best in any one area, In a sea of mediocrity EQII is lacking the least . While not a ringing endorsement i'd certainly recommend the trial.

I gave EQ2 three chances, and i don't think i'll be going back ever, although it's always still in my mind to go back.   And before anyone says anything, i quit after playing their second expansion.

I just didn't like the direction it was going, and the priorities of the devs seemed so mismanaged to me.  They were too worried about rushing content out the door to compete with WoW, and ignored a lot of things.

    Examples would be:

    • Art (ignored playerbase for around 2+ years, their engine "couldn't handle new art" excuse was getting old too)
    • User Interface (it was ok, but never dramatically improved)
    • Aesthetics/Emotes/Animations/etc. (one dance emote? get serious, no wonder people went to WoW )
    • Broken & Bugged Quests (i know, every MMOG suffers from this, right?)
    • Crafting (inter-dependence at launch, enough said)
    • System Performance/Client-Side Issues (still ignored, bad game engine basically)
    • etc.

If your new to MMOGs though, or want a game with a lot of content, lore, and some depth, then i would recommend this game.  Or try WoW if you haven't already.

Realm Online, SWG, L2, GW, Planetside, WoW, CoH, DaOC, EVE, AA, VG, EQ2, MxO (and lots of crappyish mmos ).

I wouldnt always recommend EQ2 though, depending on the persons playstyle I would sometimes recommend GW, EVE, or Planetside instead.

    Ill feed the troll....

I have played almost every major release MMO since Ultima Online.  Other than the true joy of the first few hours of UO, EQ and WoW - none of the other games comes close to the breadth and depth of EQ2.

Seriously, it is hard to imagine any of the next gen stuff coming close as they have to climb the content curve.  Ill likely play AoC and War, but Ive had my EQ2 account for more than 3 years and I expect i wont be cancelling it any time in the future.

    eq (high end) - daoc (mid) - eq2(high end) - wow (mid) - ddo("high end") - lotr(mid) etc. etc.   played since 1999..

Imo eq2 is the best fantasy mmo atm. thats if you crave lots of content.. Thats why  I'll recomend it ...

But then again I would say.. "train you skills", "kill some time" on a FPS like BF2142 and wait til WAR

And yes, I would recommend EQ2 to a new player.

It simply is the best mmorpg out there. Lots of content, classes, races, nice crafting system, fast paced combat, good PvP.

    It's just the best.

Like most other people posting here, I've played a lot of games (UO, EQ, AC, AO, SWG, DAoC, L2, FFXI, WoW, etc.) and I still recommend EQ2. It's better than most of what's out there and they are moving forward with additions and improvements all the time. It's also the game I have played/paid for most recently. If people come along here (or elsewhere) and ask for a fantasy MMORPG, I pretty much recommend LoTRO, EQ2, or WoW, depending on what they are ask for. All three of those games have some good things to offer to a new player.

EQ2 may not have been your cup of tea, but it seems that many people are enjoying it since... well, since they made it more enjoyable. :)

Frankly, I still like EQ1 and L2, the former being where I have spent the most time and the latter being another than I've played recently. I just have a hard time recommending either of those to a new player.
