I was born and raised in america. I used to be a sports nut, but now I rarely watch american sports. American sports are not true contests anymore, they are big business. Even retired american professional athletes will tell you that american pro sports are a show or entertainment and not true contests. Watch john sally on best damn sports show. He will tell you it is a show or entertainment not a contest and he even has 4 or 5 rings. American sports is about promoting single superstars to sell jersys and other sports memoribilia. There is very little team mentality from the actual leagues. I am convinced american sports shows are just as controlled as professional wrestling. I am sick of it all and will not spend any money supporting american sports.
exactly itz all about the money with everything in america, it has nothing to do with advanceing the team or the overall sports experiance for the fans....
btw any1 watch american soccer, new york HAS to get a better defence ughhh everytime they could secure the lead from new england revolution they suck
They skipped the part where Beckham gets annihilated by a 240 pound linebacker over the middle
Luckily Beckham plays the real football, not that poor copy of the good old Rugby but with padding.
Why do you need to wear padding by the way?
Afraid of anything?

No American Football is a watered down version of rugby. Rugby is way more violent (if thats what your in to, other human beings getting hurt), it has no pads(do rugby players use pads at all?), its the same type of tackles, not as much stoping, COMMERCIALS, etc....
One reason soccer isn't that big in the USA because it isn't shown on tv that often. And until recently there weren't many places to play. I know the high school I attended in Indiana didn't have a soccer team (like about 95% of other schools). I didn't even know there was such a thing as the World Cup until the USA hosted one. It is changing and more Americans are now playing soccer. Although the organation in America could improve. When a highly skilled team like Brazil plays, soccer is fun to watch. But a lot of the time it's boring, especially in the USA where the skill isn't as developed. Defensive soccer puts me to sleep. I tell you one thing about soccer I really don't like is the dive. It's an exploit in soccer used way too much as a means to gain an advantage.
Americans like American football because it is a gladiator sport. For those that think using pads protects a player, all I can say is almost every player will receive multiple injuries during a career. Heck, teams have to have more than 1 Quarterback because it is expected that the first string QB will become injured and miss games at some point during the season. Ever see a Wide Receiver jump and stretch out for a pass only to get totally flattened by defensive back? Other than in the USA the only place that seems to have caught on to American football is Germany.
Personally my favorite sports are pro baseball and college basketball and college football. Baseball is a game that requires years of honing skills to be the best, much longer than any other sport I've watched. It's caught on in all the Americas and most of Asia. Most of the world's best players aren't even from the US. Although the use of steroids by players has really turned me off to the game somewhat recently.
College sports are great because money isn't as much of a factor. Although in football and basketball the money factor has creeped into the equation (players are leaving college earlier for the pros). Greed in pro sports is a more recent phenominon. You go back to the 70's or before, I bet you would find that more people spent their entertainment dollar on something other than sports.
ive been playin soccer all my life as a right back, which means that im on teh wing all the time and attack with the team. they rely on me for perfect crosses, its taking me years to get a perfect or near perfect cross, all my life to hone my skills, it is just like any other sport. I think that i speak for all soccer players and fans when I say that all we want is soccer to be respected by football fans and not called a "gay sport" (its slang, not meaning homosexuality, a term for suckie or horrible). By the way i think that we in america should push to get american football get a name change to "extreme Rugby" or something to distinguse between american football and the real football (definetly wont work, but you cant say i didnt try )

First off, I agree with what you're saying, but I think the problem is many football/soccer fans think that more Americans hate soccer than they actually do. It's quite a big deal among the younger generation, including college students (There are typically more soccer intramurals than American football intramurals at pretty much any American university.)
Second, I think when calling soccer gay, I think they're actually using it in the literal sense, not slang for "suckie or horrible." I think we've all seen the pictures floating about of penises being exposed at soccer games... That sort of happened once in American football, but it wasn't a penis, it happened during a half-time show, and now our entire broadcasting system is changed. :P
And finally, I completely agree about the name of American football... It should be changed, but the older generations who grew up with it aren't willing to change at all (remember the metric system?).

Maybe football fans call soccer things like "fag ball" because we are sick and tired of soccer fans (especially snooty european ones) badmouthing our sport without even the slightest bit of knowledge about the sport? Just take a look at the threads that you've made...you've called football players "girly men" and even said, and I quote "I think the reason Americans don't like soccer is because they are lazy."
Kinda puts me out of my understanding mood when you have such bad habbits.

haha Dreanor, us americans are badmouthing american football too.
Lazy is a good word to describe american football. The american football plays last about 10 seconds untill they get a 1-2 minute break till the next play happens. People that play soccer are running for two 45 minute halves without breaks. Which is the lazy sport?

I played football and soccer in HS. I can certainly attest to which sport takes more endurance, athleticism, skill, and teamwork. It is definately soccer NOT football.

Out of curiosity, what position did you play? I'm not going to tell you that your position was one that didn't take skill or anything like that...I'm just curious to see how much of a contact position you played, so that maybe you could accurately guage the type of contact in soccer compared to the contact in football. If you were a soccer player then I'm guessing you were either a kicker, a wide reciever, or some sort of defensive back.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I played midfield or defense in soccer and tight end or receiver in football. FYI, I played with joe nedney in highschool. In highschool joe nedney was more of a basketball player. He did go on to be a professional kicker.

Because Americans talk about soccer with the greatest respect, right? Because Americans NEVER badmouth soccer oh no. Its all the fault of those nasty europeans.

To be honest my friend, it is you that started it with your comment about Beckam being " annihilated by a 240 pound linebacker".
It is people like you that things that a sport to be good need to be violent or involve physical domination.
And it's people like me that thinks that sport it is about "class" not brute force who reminds people like you that "American Football" is just a padded version of Rugby with few differences ( and that's a fact ), so don't brag about how your football is more manly than soccer or other sports.
So before going on a crusade on how misunderstood "American football" is, learn how to respect other sports and sportsman.

Well i think i have a valid point when i say that american football players are "girly men", THEY WEAR PADS!!!!!!!!, no other sport requires so much "body armor" (except hockey, but hockey isnt half bad). lets settle it, who can win in a foot race, a soccer player or a football player, and FYI i am american, its not only europeans badmouthing football.

And in just a footrace? I'd take the fastest football player over the fastest soccer player.

Getting injured is what you think makes a sport good??
Hey i guess ignorance is bliss.
Did I say that? Please refrain from putting words in my mouth. That was simply refuting the "girly men" claim arguing they were wimps because they wore pads. I was pointing out that they get injured--sometimes badly--WHILE wearing pads, so the fact that they wear them is simply common sense... the injuries would be much worse without them.
And yes, I would take the fastest football runner over the fastest soccer runner. (Not saying which is a better sport, mind you) There are moments in football where sometimes pure fleetness of foot is ALL that counts, and being able to sprint your ass off faster than the guy pursuing you (or faster than the guy you're chasing) while wearing bulky cumbersome armor is what wins the game. Soccer players need to run and control the ball. So yes, I think that often pure footspeed is more important than football than in soccer.
As for which of them I like better? Well, I LIKE football better if only because it's more familiar to me, and as a naturally muscular body type, it was more natural for me to play (and please don't mistake what happens on the line as mindlessly bashing bodies, it's actually quite strategic and technical requiring quite a bit of manual and foot...ual... dexterity as a lineman). However, I enjoy soccer, both of my brothers play it.
I feel the analogy on an earlier page was apt--Soccer is more of a real-time strategy, Football is turn-based. Soccer requires players to adapt on the fly, requires good tactical minds who work together and can execute a general plan. Football is about outthinking the other team's plays, knowing their strengths and weaknesses as well as your own, and calling plays that work to that... and then having to execute them well.
WoW what a surprise more posts from europeans thinking their version of something is better than the american version.
I'm telling you, its all the europeans fault. If only everyone in the world was like Americans, Because Americans NEVER claim American Football is superior to football, And Americans treat football with the greatest respect, right?

Soccer sucks, you can place a ball and a retard on the field, they will kick the ball in the goal without telling them what to do.Afraid of anything?
Football takes strategy to win. Each team tries basically kill the other team, or whoever is across from them.
Soccer you just kick a ball...woohoo...
- Could a soccer player do that or Dave Beckham?
yeah, you try to do this. And we'll see how easy it is. especially watch the 3:16 one;)
EDIT: YOu MUST see the badass curve that Carlos did at 1:57 too

Luckily Beckham plays the real football, not that poor copy of the good old Rugby but with padding.
Why do you need to wear padding by the way?
havent you seen the king of the hill that shows the difference between a soccer coach and a Football coach???????Afraid of anything?
thats all i have to say

And you believe a cartoon? OK, lets let cartoons define everything in our lives.
Kids never grow older because they don't grow older in cartoons.

haha Dreanor, us americans are badmouthing american football too.

Get it?

Well i think i have a valid point when i say that american football players are "girly men", THEY WEAR PADS!!!!!!!!, no other sport requires so much "body armor" (except hockey, but hockey isnt half bad). lets settle it, who can win in a foot race, a soccer player or a football player, and FYI i am american, its not only europeans badmouthing football.

Soccer in the US is more popular then american football in europe. NFL euro league is now defunct after 16 years.

And yet.... despite wearing pads, they still get injured quite frequently. It appears that there's a reason for the pads after all, hmm?

I like them both. They're just different.
WoW what a surprise more posts from europeans thinking their version of something is better than the american version.
I'm telling you, its all the europeans fault. If only everyone in the world was like Americans, Because Americans NEVER claim American Football is superior to football, And Americans treat football with the greatest respect, right?
