New book about longtime guild in MMOGs. Share your guild stories!

Haha, just learned someone wrote a book about Sydicate, a long time guild that has played games form UO, EQ, WoW, ect.  Supposedly the book is about guild drama, conquests, failures, and everything else.  I do not think I will buy the book, but it made me think of some of the strange stories that have happened while playing MMOs.

The strangest guild drama that I have encountered was in the game EQ2.  On the Toxulla server many of the earliest players formed a guild.  It was truely an elite guild.  Had most of the firsts on th server: top 10 players to hit 60, top crafters to max out their crafting, first to kill the raid bosses, and first to get prismatics.  Well, like a lot of power guilds the guild leader was an arrogant authoritarian that ran the guild with an iron fist. Sometimes that is necessary to get stuff done.  Well it turns out he was a ladies man.  He was married.  After the fact I found out he had relations with many of the female members of the guild.  Some in real life.  This is where things get interesting.

One of the ladies that he had relations with was married.  The females husband was also in the guild.  After about a week or two of him not showing up in game, there was a guild email sent out from one of the guild officers.  The email essentialy outed the guild leader for having a real life affair and that the guild leader hasn't shown up since he was confronted in game by guild officers with the accusations of the husband who was the victim of the situation.  Poor guy.

Now, the story gets pathetic.  The guild vault was emptied and the guild leader transfered servers.  The guild leader was well connected with other guilds on other servers.  They often bragged about accomplishments, shared strategies, and talk about whatever guild leaders talk about on teamspeak.  This happened about 10 months after EQ2 release so there was a ton of plat, unclaimed raid items, unclaimed masters, and uber rare crafting items that were either unclaimed or things that did not have a crafting recipie yet.  I forgot the grand total of the heist but it was a mind boggling amout.

Some people apparently tracked him down on other servers even after he had changed his name.  He never really did explain himself.  I am positive the explanation was that he is an alpha male and felt that he lost the respect of the guild.   So he had to leave instead of facing the guild.   His ego was bruised. Haha

The guild tried to live on for many more months but eventually broke apart.  Its funny, many things break up guilds but that was the most dramatic.

Do you have any interesting guild stories?

Worst idea for a book......ever.  I'm sure most of the content is directly cut and paste from their own forums.

    As for guild stories:

Some kid joined a guild I was in when I played WoW.  He was probably in the 11 - 15 age range and proceeded to beg the guild for money.  A few people agreed, and things seemed to be fine.  Eventually this kid traded his account (Shaman) for a new one (Warrior).  Again the /guild begging erupted.  This time he begged my guild and a friend's guild.  He ended up begging enough to get an epic mount.  As time passed people began to miss the gold they let him borrow.  A few people approached him, and he basically told them he had no idea what they were talking about.

Later we kicked this player out of the guild.  He continued to deny the facts and told us he had no memory of borrowing money.  A few days later he was getting burned in the trade channel for begging everyone on the channel to send him 1 gold.  He was asked, "Why should we." and the response was, "so i can hav 1000 gold lol".  I chimed in and made a few wise cracks.

Come to find out the guy joins guilds only to beg for gold for mounts for his characters.  He is also an incredibly horrible warrior and has never really played the game.  Ever since messing with the guild he has been in several situations where he has been witnessed sucking at his character, begging for gold, or just plain being an idiot.

Good times in an open guild.

I played WoW for a long time and the guild I was in was pretty much the top guild horde side on my server for a long time. We had a decent amount of people in the guild including more than a few women who could actually play something besides a healer but thats besides the point. We had this one guy who was always flirting in chat with one of the females. Well the female was married but she was kind enough to throw this kiddy a bone and flirt back. We had a pretty decent size ventrilo server and some people had private channels which only a few people had pw's to, and a few of us guild mates saw the two of them in one of the private channels around 2am. Well on the forum boards the next day there was a note explaining that the female was leaving the guild and she had left us with a parting gift in the form of a recorded "cyber" chat between the two of them that was extremely funny but sick at the same time. It included stuff that I wont even mention here but all I can say is butt plug.

Obviously the kid quit the guild shortly after that was released.

    Keep those stories coming!

Yeah, I can understand people trying to hook up with people in singles chat rooms or on dating websites.  But I just don't get the hook up in a video game thing.  I see it happening all the time. You are in a video game, play the damned video game.  If you want to hook up with someone go out to a club.   Just seems so strange.

MMORPGs are probably a better environment then most chat rooms or dating websites for socializing and having fun with someone of the other sex.
