Aion graphics : What will the requirements be?

lunatislunatis Member UncommonPosts: 261

I wonder what kind of computer we'll need to run Aion with full graphics.

I can already tell that all the geforce 8800 series cards will barely make it.

I'm convinced to run at maximum details you will need 4go of ram and a video card with 1go of memory.

Then you have to upgrade your power supply too. Damn...

Well the minimum requirements for the current closed beta are a 2ghz cpu, 1gb ram, and GeForce FX 5600 (128mb). I personally wouldn't even want to try running it on that though.  We really have no idea how demanding it will be on maximum settings yet. I think an 8800 and 2gb ram should be able to do it fine though....

If an 8800 can't run it on high settings very well then they're doing something wrong imo.  If the devs want to sell it you shouldn't need a multi-thousand dollar system to run the  game.

You generally take the minimum requirements and push it up a generation to get the "true" playable minimum requirements.  So, I would guess about a 2.4 GHz CPU, 1-2 GB RAM, and a GeForce 6800 or better.

MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan

4 gigs of ram .. lol I wonder if there 's a game that requires so much. I think 1 gig will do just fine . I just got new upgrades in this pc here so I hope it can run the game but i think it can, looking at the vids

As an IT professional I see much debate on the subject of system/graphics requirements for computer games. The area of PC performance & PC graphics is my specialty and my passion. I’m going to provide some, hopefully, helpful information for everyone to use at their leisure.

    1. Graphics and the Crytek™ graphics engine: From my research and experience with the Crytek™ engine its design and implementation was such in that it is able to render extremely lush environments with minimal stress on the GPU (graphics processing unit/graphics card). What does this mean to the consumer? Basically meaning a “lesser” graphics card stands a chance to render a “satisfactory” result. Now if you are anything like me, anything less than maximum resolution is NOT satisfactory. I usually hack the resolution and push it beyond the max the game producers suggest/allow.

    1. DirectX 9 and DirectX 10: As of yet, NCSoft hasn’t released any information regarding whether or not Aion will support DirectX 10 or if it will support both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10. However, I feel NCSoft is “in the know” and understands that not everyone is going to be DirectX 10 ready by Aion’s release. Therefore we can assume that current mid ~ hi end graphics card “should” be more than sufficient to run Aion. A 256MB GeForce 6800 or 256MB ATI x800 video card should be enough to run Aion with Max resolution. However, the amount of physics you want to view may have to be set a bit lower. I.E. Weather effects (lightning, rain drops, clouds, etc.) may have to be turned down a notch or two. But the overall appearance should be pleasing to the eye. As far as DirectX 10 goes, you’ll need a higher end graphics card to support its physics/dynamics. Sli and Crossfire video cards are DirectX 10 ready as well as many of the other PCIe graphics cards.

    1. Physical RAM: I have had many people ask me this very question. “How much memory do I need to run this game?” Well, there is no clear cut answer to this question as it is always relative to your system. With 1 GB of Dual-channel memory you may yield the same results as a person with 2 GB of Single-channel memory. I for one follow the 2:1 rule when providing consultation. To make a long story short you don’t always need a ton of physical RAM to run a lushly graphical game. It does help, but it’s not going to make or break you. As a general rule of thumb follow this rule. Scale your interest in the game from 1-3. 1 being minimal interest and 2 being moderate and 3 being max interest. Now depending on how you ranked Aion, will determine how interested you are in performance quality of your machine and the game. If you ranked Aion a 1 then my minimum recommendation is 1 GB of RAM, 1.5 GB if you ranked it a 2, and 2 GB if you ranked it a 3. It doesn’t matter if it’s single or dual-channel with the above method. Hard core gamers, like myself, will always use dual-channel anyway. 1 GB should be enough to run Aion though, for those of you with budget constraints.

Below I have a short synopsis of the system I’m going to build later on this year specifically for Aion. Note: This is a computer built for hard-core gaming, NOT the casual gamer.

    1. CPU:  AMD Phenom X4 (quad core) – this processor line is being released later this summer along with the Phenom X2 (dual core) line. Both processor lines feature onboard Dual-channel DDR2 memory controllers.
    2. 2 GB DDR2 800Mhz Dual-channel SDRAM
    3. 2x Crossfire 512 MB ATI x2900 HD PCIe graphics cards.

The above mentioned are the heavy hitters in my system configuration, but in no way should you base your judgment off of my system config. No motherboard is listed as the X4 compliant boards are not yet known at this time.

One thing you really need to look at is NCSofts designs up to now. They don't make games that melt down your rig. Every one of their games had modest requirements at their respective releases. No Vanguard level disasters yet. I don't see that changing.

I know i will reassemble my computer for Aion, since i have only 512 memory :S. Instead of single i'll go dual core. Probably go for a nice new videocard 8800GTX :P. And probably going over 400 watts to even feed the power :S. Just to play this game to the max...Hardcore gamers ftw!

the proper requirements are on www.aionsource.com

  • jmmcglojmmcglo Member Posts: 203

As with all PC games pre-beta, those stats quoted on Aionsource.com are always subject to change. NCSoft even said a few months back that the current systems requirments are not yet set in stone. Also keep in mind that as with all mmorpg's... minimum system requirments may change over time. Even on the back of the box of WoW it says that system requirments may change over time. As a general rule of thumb, beta system requirments are never usually as demanding as a polished product.

I would say that is a pretty good and realisitc guess at the requirments for decent playability. Requirements DO change through out the development process and over the beta phases for a game before its release, etc. but normally not that dramatically. I think the requirements Gammit100 posted give a decent idea of what it would be based on statements made by the Aion development team.

In my opinion, I hope the devs make the best game possible.  Even if it means I have to update my hardware to run it.  I mean, why dumb the graphics down to fit the masses (why, to sell the most games of course).  I think it's very gutsy and shows respect for the genre if you make a game that looks and plays so great that you have to get a better system.  It shows that it's more about the game and less about selling as many as you can.  However, I'm not naive enough to think that any dev would go for the former over the latter.

Either way, the game looks like it'll be fun and I'm looking forward to playing it!!

Nice explanation but what about storage system? Which one can handle transfers necessary for that system? I used RAID0 of two and even four HDD-s and games freezed when reading additional graphics. It makes me stressed. Do you have any solution?

To be honest if your computer is freezing when it's under heavy graphic requirments. That tells me that there may be a few things going on.

1: Your graphics card is having some issues

2: Your CPU may be failing at Floating Point computations

3: Your virtual memory may have been set too low

I'd say reason 1 or 2 are the most likely.

Now to answer your question... I'll be runing RAID0 on my system over 2 HDDs. But if you don't want to use a RAID configuration you can us one HDD for the OS and the 2nd HDD for installing your games, storing your files, etc. But keep the 1st HDD for OS only.

I'm sure the [minimum] requirements will be something around mid-range, maybe high six-series (6600+) for GeForce users and I don't know what that translates into for ATi users, Pentium 4, 512 MB of memory. This is an MMO and I doubt any company would make severe high requirements since that would just kill their profit margin.

IF the game was DX10 compatible, it would probably have a selection for DirectX9 or DirectX10 like Lost Planet. I'm going to hold my breath for DX10 compatiblity since they are making it on the Crytek engine. If I had it my way, it would be DirectX10 only (me figuring the high system requirements would financially stop many griefers/kiddies/etc. from even being able to run the game). I really wish that this game would be the first to limit players based on hardware with a sense of "If you have to ask the minimum requirements, you probably can't run it". And like someone stated above, it would show a lot of respect for the genre.

But in all reality, if you have the means to buy the hardware that can handle DirectX10, do it. It's a goddamn beautiful experience that you have to actually interact with to understand what you are missing out on (because watching Crysis videos on youtube just doesn't cut it after a while). I can't imagine playing a MMO for hours on end on DX10, and I hope Aion is the first.

I'm not very well versed in this area so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I know that the same technology that was used for Far Cry is being used to make this game so couldn't someone potentially look at Far Cry's requirements and up em a bit and get an idea of what this game will require?

First of all bear in mind they will want this game to work on the average PC so....

    1.5 - 2 GIG cpu

    1 gig of ram

and a medium end graphics card.

Apparently my previous post on system requirements wasn’t adequate enough for the masses. So let me reiterate and make things simple on the eyes. Once again let me state; I AM an IT Professional and fellow gamer with experience with this graphics engine. I’ll break it down nice and simple for everyone.

Windows XP Home, XP Pro, XP MCE users:

1-2 GB RAM – 1 GB of dual channel is "ok"… 2 GB for best performance. 2 GB of single channel memory minimum.

2.0 GHz Processor  – If you’re running an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ or similar Intel, you’ll be just fine.

ATI x800 or Nvidea 6800 – These are the minimum you want in your system. I don’t believe these cards will run everything at maximum but you’ll still be able to enjoy the game. Keep in mind that if Aion is DirectX 10 compliant… you will only have access to DirectX 9c as these cards do not support DX10. ATI’s HD 2000 series and Nvidea’s 8000 series video cards DO support DX10. My recommendation is to go with a DX10 compliant video card.

    Windows Vista users:

Vista users… on average Vista runs better with 2 GB of RAM. I for one recommend any Vista based Gaming System to sport 2GB+ of ram. Also the HD 2000 and Nvidia 8000 series video cards better support Vista Aero features. Also if you want to take advantage of DirectX 10 you’ll need Vista vs XP.

If you have any questions e-mail me on here I check my mail daily. Ciao peeps.

Hi, I've been keeping track of Aion, i quit WoW about a month ago but i love MMORPG's , none of the current one's are to my liking so i'm planning on playing Aion as my new MMORPG. I've always put a high value on graphics in games ,and with flying and wings Aion just seems like the perfect game for me. The problem is that my pc is relatively old though(about 4 years), and as i'm a student i can't just go and buy a new pc. I was wondering if i could play this game at decent settings, my current card is a geforce fx 5200 wich of course is definatly not good enough to play this game, i was already looking for a new one when i stumbled across this game.

What i'm wondering is what the best graphics card would be for me to be able to play this game without getting a slight slowmotion or slideshow effect and still have nice graphics, if it's at all possible for my system.

    My specs:

My OS is windows xp, my cpu is an intel pentium 4 2.4 GHZ, i've got 1gb RAM and my mobo is an Asus p4s800.(no PCI-E card, has to be an AGP card)

So i've been spending loads of time looking for good cards, and what i've found are: Ati 1600x pro/1650x pro, Geforce 7600gs and Ati 1950xPRO AGP

What i'm wondering now is wich of these is the better option if i want to play Aion when it comes out. Obviously the 1950x pro is the best card but i'm not sure if it's worth the quite higher price compared to the other cards because of my rather low system specs that will drag the performance of the 1950x pro down. Keeping in mind the specs of my computer, how would these cards do for playing Aion?

All advice is much appreciated, i've put quite a lot of time in looking up info on these cards but i keep bouncing into controversial opinions, so i figured it's best to ask on the forum of the game i'm planning to use it for.

Well, the game is not going to be release soon. So you can try save some money. I think that we wont see the game ready for the market before q2 2008. That is a lot of time, so you can use it to save money and buy a new pc or just make a better upgrade. I think ur CPU will drag the performance down, also u should run the game with 2gb of RAM if u want to play the game with a decent frame rate.

  • jmmcglojmmcglo Member Posts: 203

My recomendation would be to save your money until Aion's release. Once you have enough... get a mobo + cpu combo from someplace like tigerdirect.com. Get yourself that x1950. Now here's the thing you may like. They have mobo+cpu combos on tiger within your price range that feature PCIe and still utilize standard DDR single-channel memory. You can also snag an Athlon 64 socket AM2 with a decent mobo for around $300.

X3000?? Do you mean ATI x300? If so.. is it VGA or PCI-e? If you have a PCI-e 16x slot open... you should go for an ATI x1950 OR (if you want to take advantage of DX10... get an ATI HD 2000 series (2400, 2600, and 2900). But you will also need Vista. If you are runing windows XP and donot intend to upgrade to vista then go with the x1950. You will also need to upgrade your RAM by at least 1 GB. If you'd like you can e-mail me the exact specs of your machine and I can help you out. I get many e-mails regarding this type of situation, but I usually respond within 24 hours or less.

On XP run DXdiag it tells you video card Not sure if they kept it in Vista.
