I'm trying to comprehend the purpose of this post, but I am having a really hard time figuring it out.  Perhaps you could, um... put in some detail to back your extremely broad statement?

Eve would be so much better if you could actually land on the planets and walk around.  And also remove the ability to fly straight through them for that matter.

Actually you have it backwards, it gets funner with more play. Sorry that you lack the intelligence to play a harder than average game. Great job on giving it a 1 by the way, seeing as nearly no game in history deserves a 1. But hey, you can't teach a rat how to play the piccolo.

I wonder where Eve would be in the ratings without these 1 ratings and macro raters.

  • Lavitz552Lavitz552 Member Posts: 24

Actually, EVE is a very nice game... seeing how it is harder to start off.. but you just need to run a few missions and get a few books... then your set for a while just training your skills. EVE-Mon is a great tool for the game, keeping track of your training times. Graphics are beautiful, explosions make your mouth water, and blowing other player ships up is even greater. This is a nice game, for the long run, and shouldn't ever be judged it or any other game by only playing it for the minimum of a week.  After you get threw a week the game picks up big time, you find a big corp. to run with, and help them out they help you out with money and books... Raids, Corp. wars, and Bounty runs... give you a thrill that brings you back more and more times.

Pretty sure they toss out the extreme ratings like all 1's or 10's....

This game is not about walking around just so people like yourself can make avatars to "walk around with."  They are putting it in the game, but it will serve no practical purpose being limited to stations.  Those who choose not to use the feature will not be missing out on anything.  This is a space sim, not a failed SWG.  That, and I would love to see any game producer develop a game with over 20,000 planets in it and all of them be explorable just for folks like you that don't get the true purpose of the game.

Ok I'll bite. What is the true purpose of this game since it seems you believe you know?

Also why so much hate at players who want to walk around and explore planets?

I admit I'm a noob but so far exploring space really doesn't seem that interesting ( Hey look my scanner found another dead space area. and look its another wave of pirates, just like the ones I fight in missions only I don't get any LP's) I hope I'm missing something and will keeping trying to find something a bit more interesting then the agent missions (which can get a bit dull when you get offered the same exact mission 3 times in a row sometimes)

And yes I know PVP can be fun (I live in low sec ) but I don't play EVE just to PVP.

      Cheers

As to the first part:  It's in planning and has been for some time.  Perambulation (the ability to walk, talk and interact within the station environments) is coming with Rev III this winter.  Walking on planets is a more long term goal that will eventually be added to the game in some form in the future.

As to flying through the planets when in warp?  If you go read some of the backstory and dev blogs you'll see why you can pass through objects while in warp.

I just restarted my old account practically 2 days ago. I lost my ship within the first hour of returning, attempting to retain all my old information back when I took the tutorial. Despite being blown to bits on a mission that was way over my head, the first words out of my mouth besides "Well...sh*t" were "Ah, back to the beauty!"

I can definitely say that this MMO is not for everyone but certainly for me! I can read, do some work, practice my guitar, and who knows what else all while actually being INVOLVED in the game. I'm currently trying to sway some friends and co-workers to play it.

Sorry you found this game to be disappointing but I would highly reccommend giving it a second try.

Well after being with the game for quite a while I've had enough and waiting for a mobile avatars just isn't worth sending CCP any more cash. I just returned to the Biomass a 48, 45 and 36 Million SP characters to ensure I will never return to this game, no you can't have my stuff because it no longer exists. For those not familiar with the terms of use I deleted my characters on my three separate accounts.

I cite broken promises by CCP as my main reason for quiting the game, that and they just don't seem to give a rip about their customers beyond how much money they can get out of them. For all the cya later types, you're the second biggest reason, you just aren't worth the effort. I'll wait for another Sci-Fi MMO without wasting my money on this one anymore.

Its not for everyone. The main draw of eve, is that it has limitless possibilities. However, the draw back is... there are limitless possibilities. Many people get over whelmed when they see no strict forms of guidance.

Another thing that really really makes eve shine is its Corporations. Get in a good one, and you will get shown the ropes, and enjoy the game much more.

HeH at tmes when i can while playing eve i like to read my book, Play my Occura, Play one of my Wii games [curently i am playing the Wii version of resident evil 4 and i love the aim feature for aiming the gun at the enermies  ], Also im working on a book of my own sometimes i do that. So yea eve is a very casuall game at times unless of course you are doing PvP then it can be tricky.

Every few months since release I return to EVE like an Alzheimer's patient. At first I loved EVE, it explored a genre not previously seen in the mmorpg market and did an amazing job of it. The early days of EVE were incredible, and aside from some of my time spent with EQ during the kunark era I haven't had that much fun before or since.  I was somewhat dissatisfied with the focus on mining and my inability to acquire similar amounts of isk from running missions or killing rats and took a break. Ever since I've been popping in to check on EVE, trying it out for a month and then leaving again. More recently when I returned I found a good guild, and found I was able to make good isk farming rats. Many of the issues I had previously encountered seemed to have faded away, though several new ones had arisen. At first I was impressed by all the new technology that had been added, having started in a time where there were three classes of ships seeing all the new options available was exciting. That excitement however quickly turned to disappointment. My character was old, a dinosaur of the eve universe. As dinosaurs go though I was not a T - rex or a raptor, but one of those tiny little scavengers from Jurassic Park. Putting my convoluted metaphor aside, I had none of the benefits of a old character(the extremely high skill points) and also the weakness, lower starting stats than a brand new character.

That however was not the final nail in my EVE online characters coffin, the worst of it came when I set a goal for myself. I decided I wanted to fly a carrier, and the skill points I did have were actually setup towards that goal. Upon looking at the training times I saw that it would take me about three months to be able to fly a carrier, and it was at this point my time in EVE came to an end. Being on break from college I found myself actually having a good chunk of time to play a mmorpg, and I wanted that to be EVE and that was the problem. As a casual player EVE is great, you can train your skills up without having to invest a huge amount of time, as long as your account stays active you can continue to advance your skills with little to no effort. If however you actually want to put a decent amount of time into the game good for you, but it doesn't matter. No matter how hard you work towards your goal, no matter how much time/effort you're willing to invest you cant do anything to move things along(Aside from buying better augs, and even then the reduction is minimal). The concept of not playing for a few months while my skills trained up brought me to the question of would I pay $45 to be able to fly the ship I wanted, and my answer was no.

Despite all the negativity I want to make it clear that I think EVE is a great game if you're a casual player and/or dont intend to go for capitol ships. If the fleets of EVE still consisted of only the original three classes of ships my subscription would still be active, and if a new server were opened up I'd be right back in things, I'd just be careful this time to keep my account active and skills training if I took a break. The inability of a new or returning player to catch up to many of the existing players is the only issue I have with EVE. As a mmorpg player(hell, as a person) I strive to be the best at what I do. Now in most mmorpgs that kind of goal may be unlikely when you get into the game late, but in EVE its flat out impossible. If you were to start now you could never hope to level the playing field with somebody currently flying a cap ship, and as a long time mmorpg player thats just depressing.

Sounds like EVE just isn't your cup of tea... which is fine.  Good luck in whatever MMORPG you find.  Unfortunately you are complaining about core mechanics of the game.

As to being able to 'catch up' or 'level the playing field'?  I've got about 14 million skill points (about 1 year worth of skillpoints).  I compete just fine with the 4 yr old vets in the game.  Kill them plenty.  Matter of fact I've been doing so since about my 4th month in the game when I had a whopping 3.5-4 million skillpoints.  My killboard statistics speak quite clearly for themselves.  For every time I have been killed (as in ship blown up) I have killed 15 or so other pilots.    At 14 million SP I am knocking on the door of being a 'vet' myself now but my 'stats' have been always been this way (more kills than deaths) since moving to 0.0 with my corporation last year.

EVE isn't about skillpoints or what ship you fly.   It's so much more than that.

you gotta think of the genius behind Eve Online, no other mmorpg lets you benefit while not playing, and if you don't wanna play until you can fly a certain ship, then you still gotta pay to get that skill.

If they have 170 K subscribers and only 30 K + are playing at any given time, then 140 K subscribers are paying and not playing....less bandwith, less lag, etc.....

Of course its a casual game, and many people do other things besides just play Eve Online.......

There is alot of money to be had in mmorpgs, especially with games that you pay to not play.......
