3. remove the crappy FPS type gameplay, what the hell? preCU combat was much better...
If I wanted to play battlefront, I bloody would..
You don't have to use the FPS type system. They have given you the option to use the old targeting system and controls. It takes a little bit of time to get it perfect but its fully customizable now.
Your words are that of a vet who has no clue to what the current game holds. It was brought back last year. If you would like a tutorial on how to do it, drop me an e-mail i'll be glad to explain the simple changes that are needed to make the FPS go bye bye.
This is a lie, crafted weapons SUCK now. There may be one or two that are somewhat useful, but looted weapons are better.
I came back in Feb. after being away since JTL, before CU, before NGE. I got my weaponsmith business back up, tinkered around for about a month or so. Then I realized that I was usually the only one around during my travels. Theed, Bestine, Coronet...once player hotspots, now all EMPTY.
If you enjoy paying a monthly fee for a single player game, then give SWG a try.
I was playing EQ2 with an old SWG guildm8 and he kept sending me Imperial orders and I kept bringing up old good memories and we both wanted to jump on and play. (also is it just me or does some of the music in Zek have just a hint of a SW theme midway through the song???)
I found a "John Williams Greatest Hits" album in the chest by the Orcs on the westmost catapult.

There's actually an interesting point here worth investigating: just how well is Battlefront doing now?
I personally bought and played Battlefront II for like a week online, but I'd suspect that by now it's a dead game. In honesty it wasn't doing too well even when I played it, and that wasn't too long after it was released.
Yet, LucasArts pumps it (and the Battlefront franchise) as the best selling Star Wars game to date. It even says so on the box. It wouldn't surprise me if that particular label happened to spring up during discussions about NGE, yet, I wonder how it's doing now in terms of active players?
In a way, SOE or LA can't be blamed for trying to give their players what they want, which is essentially what they purchase. "Battlefront II sold more than Star Wars Galaxies? They must want that then!" Problem is, I think they suffer what most of the industry suffers - a lack of understanding about the customers. I REALLY think the folks at SOE were serious when they claimed we'd just play the NGE and like it.
@OP, I too share your pain and have moved on to other sandbox games. Not necessarily MMOs, but anything that involves even a hint of creativity.
Bro, you HAD to bring up SWBF2, didn't you?
Now I have to rant a bit about that stupid game. Please keep in mind that this isn't directed at you, I'm just ranting about SWBF2 in general. Firstly, I bought both I & II when they released. SWBF2 IMO got a sort of "SWG Treatment."
- Jedi were put into the game, a big no-no, IMO, since the SWBF games for once would be focused on the regular combatants of the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War. Then the devs caved in to have Jedi running around. /sigh
- The devs had the audacity to say that SWBF2's space combat will be the successor to the old X-Wing series of games from the mid thru late 90's (no, I don't count the lame Rogue Sqdn / Leader games as part of that series). The devs used X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance as inspiration. "Yay!," I thought. But the space combat was wayyyy oversimplified, small, tight combat zones, teeny tiny ships that looked nothing like the movies given today's technology, etc. Very dumbed down for a "successor to the X-Wing games." /yawn
- The devs nerfed vehicles pretty hard. They even removed "splash damage" from the large blasters. For example, no longer did the AT-AT have splash damage, you practically needed direct hits.
- Why, in the name of The Great Flanneled One, George Lucas, did they remove the Cockpit Frame feature??? SWBF1 had them.
- Why, in the name of The Great Flanneled One, George Lucas, did they remove the PRONE POSITION for the ground troops??? SWBF1 had them.
SWBF2's only saving grace was the single player campaign and storyline, and narration by Temeurra Morrison. But the combat and multiplayer sucked balls
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Oh thats what those are! I threw one at a DFC orc and it just alerted him to my presence and split into pieces. I then tried to spend one in a pie shop in Q and they laughed at me...now it is all clear. I wonder if there is a CD player in Klak somewhere?
Man, I really wanted to play a MMORPG tonight. Looking at my desktop, there are plenty installed: Guild Wars, WoW, LOTRO, and 9Dragons. Nothing appeals to me. I want... * ... to jump on my swoop and ride to my guild's city and check my factories. * ... survey for more resources and setup a few harvesters. * ... hit my personal weaponsmith workshop and make some truly exceptional weapons. * ... Visit the guild mall and see if my merchant has sold anything. * ... stop by my mansion and put some more loot on display. * ... jump in my tie-fighter and shoot down a few X-wings.
It has now been over a year since I logged into SWG and some evenings like tonight I still can't believe that it is all gone. Goddamn you, Sony. Goddamn you.
Wow, Gosh, you figured out stuff to do without 'questing'. You must have an incredible imagination.
Quest 1) Jump in vehicle, visit guildhall.
Quest 2) Survey for resources.
Quest 3) Visit weaponsmith, craft weapons.
Quest 4) Visit merchant.
QUest 5) Stop by house and decorate.
Quest 6) Shoot at stuff.
All these quests without a computer telling you exactly what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and where to do it at. Gee golly willakers. Who woulda thunk it. Daaaaang.
If they do a server merger then this game will have some life to it the only thing holding it back is alot of empty servers
/agree
I think I can get used to / relearn everything else in the game. If they do a merge or offer free transfers so I can move my #1 character to a populated server (with ALL her chit), I would seriously consider returning.

I too miss the days. I reactivated 4 accounts and in a month put them all back in cold storage. I think they'll stay there for good now
I want... * ... to jump <in a shuttle> and ride to my <corporation's home station> and check my <locker for new equipment>. * ... survey for more <asteroids> and setup a few <strip miners>. * ... <break out my BPO,(blueprints) > and make some truly exceptional <spaceships and equipment> * ... Visit the <marketplace> and see if <any of my auctions, market items or contracts have been completed> * ... stop by my mansion and put some more loot on display. <OK, can't do this in EVE...yet....but seriously, home decorating is sort of lame> * ... jump in my <Raven Battleship> and shoot down a <scum-sucking invaders of my corporation's 0.0 space> It has now been over <8 hours> since I logged into <EVE> and some <afternoons> like <right now> I still can't believe that <I waited almost 4 years to try this great game> Goddamn you, <Blizzard>. Goddamn you.<for wasting 2 years of my life on your pointless game>
Edited your post for EVE......
I wholeheartedly agree. EVE is curretntly the last standing sand box game that is not Second Life. When EVE launches the Avatar expansion where you can walk around stations, go into peoples shops and hang out in a bar. It will be truly the best sand box game left alive.
---------------------- Played (In order of favorite first to least): DAOC, EQ2, EVE, WOW, Vanguard, AC2, City of __, Guild Wars, LOTRO, EQ, Sword of New World, FFXI, Lineage 2, Second Life, DDO, Anarchy Online, RF Online, Archlord, Uru, Ragnarok Online, Shadowbane, Planetside, Auto Assault, Ryzom, Matrix Online, Horizons, Entropia, Sims, Runescape, Lineage 1, AC1, Dungeon Runners
You all might look at Entropia Universe. Its sandbox, skill boxes, NO levels, etc etc. Only been there for a couple of days but it does look promising.
I did'nt play this game for very long when it launch (mostly because of the bugs). But i remember having lots of fun with it. Finally a game that is different from the others mmo's. But look like devs tought it was too different and made the game exactly like any other mmo's on the market. SUCKS.
If they could made just 1 server pre-ncu i'm sure they would realise their mistake.

No, it's not. It's a business. And people who pay to play aren't just "players", they're customers. People who tell themselves "it's just a game" are the same kind of people willing to accept substandard goods and services from other companies that are only in business to "make a buck" and treat customers like dirt in the process.
It's very simple: if you don't want a company walking all over you, stop paying for the garbage you're getting from them. Stop rationalizing crappy product with the excuse "it's just a game" because let me tell you something: companies like SOE and Cryptic DON'T see it that way. They see what they do as a money-making venture, as do their investors. It's not "just a game" to these companies, however if people keep letting these companies off the hook with excuses and refuse to hold them accountable for the garbage they deliver, then you're going to continue to get garbage from them.

I absolutely agree with the original poster. Sigh, they took an online world and turned it into an online game.
Damn... I miss swg
